"abounding joy in your presence"..."The Word of God, the Eucharist: they fill us with JOY." Pope Francis

Sharing love and soft smiles in the LIGHT... the day has arrived for David and Joy to share two glorious Sacraments this morning.  David will receive his first Eucharist and Joy will be baptized in the midst of the same mass with her wonderful family all around her.  We are so filled with joy!
Most every mass in her lifetime will sweet Joy hear her name and smile?  Today in the Psalm from mass - Psalm 16...You will show me the path to life, abounding joy in your presence, the delights of your right hand forever.
The road to Emmaus is so appropriate for David's receiving the Body and Blood for the first time today and begins the journey down the narrow path fed with Jesus!  As Pope Francis reminds us today... "The Word of God, the Eucharist: they fill us with JOY."

Lord, we are so filled with tremendous happiness and JOY to welcome our newest little granddaughter into The Church along with her brother coming to the table of heaven and earth for the first time and on into eternity fed by You!  "The Liturgy of the Word welcomes us: Jesus explains the Scriptures to us and rekindles in our hearts the warmth of Faith and Hope, and in Communion he gives us strength... from feeling sad and defeated they we become joyful!"  Pope Francis writing about the Gospel/Road to Emmaus/Luke 24.  May your graces and blessings flow all around and through Joy and David this most glorious day!  Jesus, we love you and trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
"Were not our hearts burning within us... The Lord has truly been raised!"  Jesus with us always and pouring unconditional LOVE and allowing us to experience a small slice of heaven here on earth in our domestic Church/family!  Bless-bless, Barbara Luke and family

"of the kindness of the Lord the earth is full..." Psalm 33

I have fond memories of my babies with baby chicks over 30 years ago!  Nancy is my spring baby born on April 2nd and I recall having her propped up on the circle with baby chicks running across her leg... so to see my Evangeline and an adorable baby chick filled me with so many emotions!
Rather than to prop up little Joy, Therese sat in holding her and showing her the new baby chick while the boys zoomed around the shop on their bikes.  So very precious!

I find that there is much filling me and my thoughts this day... knowing that Hallel and The Community including the Little Brothers and Sisters are putting on a play this afternoon along with a great celebration on the occasion of The Little Brothers having their money raised to start building their Little Monastery in June!  Of course, I would love to be there, but...  We are in the midst of great anticipation and preparation for our huge family celebration tomorrow of both David's first Communion and Joy's Baptism at the same mass!   So thrilling and glorious!  My constant prayers and thoughts are also with the farmers as the spring gets later and later with talk of snow tomorrow and Monday!  Those seeds in the ground are cold and wet and a worry for those farmers that have some planted - our men have yet to start...
In the LIGHT and raised as LIGHTS!

A taste of how special this time will be for our family... two Sacraments for David and Joy sharing their day and magnifying the beauty by combining them in the same mass!  What a celebration and reminder that we are filled with such gratitude that we are able to share our Faith as a family!  Faith/Family/Farm is the foundation of our life!
Unable to make this last year... what JOY to make it now.  The farm now a home to a young and growing family!  So right!

Last year Lent and Easter were crazy and kind of missed due to the remodel and move/switching places so that the young family could live on the farm and we moved 3 miles away into their large beautiful home.  Yes, it even could be a bit bigger than our large farm house, but we fill it up with family regularly, and we love that!  Next Wednesday it will be filled to capacity with Nancy and her family here as well as our Little Sister Hallel!  She will come home to the farm for her first home visit in 4 years, and that is filling my thoughts this day, too!  These words from the psalm today express well all the many places I find myself in this world called Faith/Family/Farm this day..."of the kindness of the Lord the earth is full.  Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you."
The newspaper was clean, but in short order they start messing on it...

We continue on with John 6 today with the stormy sea and the disciples rowing miles and looking up and seeing Jesus walking on the water towards them... they are terrified and we expect them to have him enter the boat, but not here... instead they are suddenly on the shore.... arrived with Jesus!  "It is I.  Do not be afraid."  And suddenly they have arrived at their destination!  Yes, I admit that waves of anxiety and worry overtake me with all that lies ahead for me.  This huge family time becomes craziness with all of us (25) together and yearning to have good quality time with our Susan!  The meals are huge and labor intensive... you end one and start planning for the next and there are constant dishes and clean up and yes, the dishwasher runs continuously along with the sink full.  This morning I found myself praying for the peace to be here with us, and also lifted up in prayer the petition that mass and adoration would be part of each day as our Hallel needs to be close to her spouse in this way.  How I love the chance to share that with her!  I need not be afraid and the destination lies ahead if only I give the control to Jesus!
I predict that little Joy will love chickens and raise them in her lifetime with her mom, Ruth, showing her how.  I see in Rose and David the comfort and enjoyment they have in caring for chickens and remind them that their mom had a pet chicken when she was about Rose's age whom she named Chicklet.  Yes, she did!

Lord, Jesus, this day has also been filled with a special sharing with one of Pat's sisters, who shared with us a special time she had at a Shrine of St Joseph in Arizona.  The floodgates were opened to share with her how powerful The Stations and The Holy Family are to us on this journey of Faith/Family/Farm!  Maria found such power and strength in the outside Stations at the Poor Clare Monastery in her discernment of her call to religious life.  Discerning that she was not called to be a nun... she came home and built stations in our grove (now Ruth and Paul's grove on the farm).  Thank you for an opportunity to share all that fills us with more than we can hold in our hearts each day of this journey thanks to your amazing wonderful True Church!  Jesus, we trust in your kindness which fills the earth.  Bless the farmers with good growing weather, give David, Joy and Rose (her 5th birthday) a wonderful family celebration tomorrow, and bring peace and joy to our huge family time this week!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
I will admit, too , that a lot of my yearning/anxiety is that I will be able to capture our family together without too much difficulty.  That family picture is so desired and important to me as we will all be together minus only Captain Joseph, who will definitely be added!  We now have 2 new granddaughters since our last family picture taken at Labor Day weekend in KC, so they need to appear in our official memories... pictures of course!  Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
Pat looked at this on the wall today... "What a mob!"  with great happiness in his voice.  "There are two more now to add you know.  And do you realize that the Saint for today... St Catherine of Siena was 24th of 25 children... these would have been how her siblings looked all together!"  What a family she had!

Feeding the multitude/Eucharist, sharing first Eucharist and Baptism!

What JOY!!  A preview of the special gift these two will share in the same Mass on Sunday!  David will receive his First Eucharist and he will witness his sister come into the Church with her Baptism shortly before.  David adores his new baby sister, Joy, and is so proud and happy to share and multiply the occasion with her.  Looking at David's baby pictures a short time ago... these two look so much alike, and now they can have a super amazing day sharing 2 of our wonderful Sacraments within  a short time from each other in the same mass on Sunday!
Ruth's door which soon will lead out to their new porch - "looks like stained glass with the bright green grass coming through.  So beautiful and making me smile big and filled with a lot of happiness as we are just 2 days away from celebrating these two receiving the Sacraments along with sister, Rose, celebrating her 5th birthday!

The Gospel today is the beginning of John 6 with the feeding of the 5,000, and I looked ahead and we will do the chapter in the days ahead!  It does make so much sense to ponder this now..."Jesus continues to feed the multitudes with the bread of life in he Eucharist, for which we give thanks especially during the Easter Season."  Christ has gifted us with His Body and Blood to be fed and go forth filled with The Holy Spirit and be his hands and feet!
Maria humored me and brought the kids over to the farm this morning for baby chick pictures!  So in love with the sweetness of this little nearly 6 month old Evangeline and a soft chick!

My morning was filled with baby chicks, little 4 week old Joy getting a bath and dressed in her Baptismal dress that her great-grandmother Verly made for her mom and Aunts 37 years ago, and then pictures that make my world go around!  Praying with John and Pat this morning I was so filled with wonder and awe to realize that we have John 6 coming to ring the Truth far and wide!  "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst."  John 6:35  That is our Truth in a nutshell and in black and white!
With mommy!
 Therese and David...
Beautiful 9 year old Therese... the scarf is due to unseasonably cold weather.  Only in the 30s today.
The 5 with rubber boots, tractor, and a couple soft baby chicks.
Therese and Mary found a wounded bird yesterday... quite something to get that close to this magnificent animal!  She released her outside, and we hope she eventually flew away.
Showing it to baby sister...

Lord, we are filled with so much excitement and JOY at the wonderful Sacraments of your Church which you instituted to aid us on the journey down the narrow path carrying/dragging our most Cherished Cross and following after you.  Bless both Joy as she is baptized into The Church and her brother, David, who will now come the table to be fed your Body and Blood!  Jesus, we thank you and Trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
Yes, it's cold out, and the winter clothes are needed once again!  It could be nice while Hallel is here, so we might finally be able to get the crop in.  Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
So excited Pat's sister sent us crocheted headbands for the girls when they get together in a week!  Thank you!
There is a perfect baby in the farm house again!  Ruth and I both had babies a year after we moved into this house!  So wonderful!

Worthy of our 100% trust... Trustworthy... Jesus, we trust in you!

Baby chicks are here!  Also news about our big day on Sunday/David's first Communion day!  Not only will his grandpa be on his side of the Church with the cup of the Blood for him, but Father called and said that he wants to include Joy's Baptism during the First Communion Mass!  Two of Ruth's children receiving the Sacraments of First Communion and Baptism in the same mass!  Such a beautiful proclamation to all that The Church is loved and honored and showers us with blessings if only we embrace The Church without reservation and realize that through the Wisdom of The Catholic Church we are being helped down the narrow path to heaven forever with Jesus and Mary and The Saints!
Rose introducing Romeo to baby chicks for the first time!  He did reach out and pat his soft head with his fingers, and discovered SOFT!  Maybe today he will hold one, too?

The Gospel today is continuing on in John 3... the words "God is trustworthy" grabbed me as my mantra ever since we faced a grow back of John's brain cancer through the chemo came to us from our wonderful Bishop LeVoir..."When things are hard and challenging repeat these words; 'Jesus, I trust in you.'"
http://familysoulstory.blogspot.com/p/johns-cancer-stories.html
Each day since I have lived by this as we discovered in a dramatic way that our lives are out of our control and Jesus is in control!  It is a true and real reminder to me that I can trust in my Jesus and place all in him.  He is truly "trustworthy"!
Baby chick sandwich makes you smile in delight, right Rose?  We will also be celebrating Rose's 5th birthday on Sunday along with David's first Communion and Joy's Baptism/entry into The Church!  Surely a day of great JOY and Celebration in our family!  Then 3 days later Aunt Little Sister Hallel/Susan will be coming home to the farm with Nancy and her family!  The first time she has been here in 4 years!  She will miss David's first Communion, but told him that she will be at his second Communion at the Catholic School mass where she went along with her sisters and brother for 9 years on Thursday!  JOY and Hallelujah!  "Every time someone says my name - Hallel- they are giving God total praise to the highest heavens as it is truly Hallelujah!"
Our baby chicks are in the new shop where the kids get in out of the cold and rain and play on their bikes as the men work on projects!  How grandpa Pat loves his new shop!  The kids love it too, and it is warm for these new baby chicks.  Who would have thought we would have such cold weather?  Lord, bring the spring back!
The gentle touch is needed with the tiny new baby chicks!

Jesus, there is so much each day that reminds us of our need for you as we humbly fall on our knees and turn to you in our weakness.  "When we are weak and sick is when we turn to Jesus."  Hallel told me 7 years ago when I had my hip replacement and I felt so worthless and weak.  "Then I want to be weak all the time, because I want Jesus!"  Yes, I want to be strong and shout from the rooftops your Truth, my Jesus!  That you are to be totally trusted and we need to give our all to You!  That we need to die to self and allow the Holy Spirit to dwell in our hearts, minds and souls..."We must obey God rather than men... We are witnesses of these things, as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him."  The Apostles today to those that told them to stop preaching in the name of Jesus in Acts 5 - the first reading from mass today.  The Apostles are now in heaven and are there to give us the strength and courage to preach The Truth!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
In 3 days our JOY will abound with David's first Communion, Joy's Baptism and Rose's 5th birthday - Family time is the Best most especially when we share our Faith with JOY from one generation to the next!  Then in 6 days we will all be together, minus Captain Joseph, when our Little Sister Hallel comes home... all 24 of us!  Lord, we place all this in your hands and trust in your plan for us... it all seems to be so amazing and we thank you!  Bless-bless, Barbara Luke

Three years ago today... Mary's first Communion!

Now with one more, baby Joy on her Baptism day, too!

It will be so different without Pat's mom as she has been always there for all of our Family/Church/Farm occasions.   She will be missed!  She has been gone for 6 months soon.

There will be 3 Jeanie cakes on Sunday... one for each occasion!  The best!

"God so loved the world" no matter how crazy it gets!

David home sick gets to help settle in the new baby chicks!  Yes, I have returned from helping get them warm, fed and watered, and many pictures already!

Life is a crazy unpredictable zoo for me these last few days... today we are soon to have our baby chicks home to get settled in... no field work yet due to cold and rain, but it seems that with my husband free from that he finds reasons to travel for parts and fenceposts with me by his side.  Good yet not allowing me to get other things done.  When I read the Gospel today from John 3:16... it filled me with the knowledge that no matter how out of control and out of our hands our life gets to be ... God so loved our world!  The call has come and we are on the road to help settle in the baby chicks!  Beware of too many baby chick pictures for our own good to arrive here when I can find a minute to myself.  Hard to find these days... Jesus, may I die to self so that you may live in me, and I may serve without counting the cost!
Grandpa Patrick and grandson Patrick snuggle with little Evangeline on these rainy mornings!  She loves it!  Bless-bless, Barbara Luke

I am back and trying to share some here before I make a big grocery run... with many mouths to feed we are out of some essentials and with Easter upon us... some treats that come with Easter!  We are a week away from our Little Sister Hallel coming for her home visit as she is brought here with Nancy, Bill and their 4 to join the spinning world we call our farm.  Hopefully by then the cold and rain will have cleared out and the crop will be going in, so that will add to the intensity of her time here!
Rose shows her new baby sister, Joy her fist baby chick, but she only peeks at it now.  It is so fun to see Ruth, my chicken girl, now showing her kids how to care for them.  When they get bigger they will move over here and I will become the chicken farmer.
Patrick is not too sure about them...

There is sickness adding to the struggles along with the cold wet weather... well below normal for this late April.  With our early spring this is disappointing to the farmers, who are now behind schedule getting the crop in.  Talk about having to trust in Him!  The peace flows all around me as I read these amazing words from John 3 in the Gospel today.
"God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life...But whoever lives the truth comes to the light,
so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God."
With the struggles and crosses and suffering that comes with our lives lived for Jesus and serving Jesus in each other... we find The Way, the Truth and the LIFE... Jesus in our midst!  We are given all we need to persevere!  One of my favorite sources of this strength comes from the glorious Saints that fill each day with models of strength and holiness and we are called to be saints ourselves!
Romeo getting used to these new little soft baby chicks.

Jesus, we love you and are forever humbly grateful and unworthy of your undying unending unconditional love for us.  May we dwell in the LIGHT and share the love and mercy we have been given most especially with those the closest to us in our domestic Church/family. I will bless the LORD at all times;
his praise shall be ever in my mouth.
Let my soul glory in the LORD;
the lowly will hear me and be glad.
R. The Lord hears the cry of the poor.
Psalm 34 from mass today fills us with hope and strength knowing that you so love our crazy world if only we dwell in the LIGHT and be open to LIFE and raise LIGHTS!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
Luke with chick...
Patrick is learning to handle them and trust that they are not going to hurt him... they are soft and gentle!  I must go and shop for the family... Lord, give me the strength as shopping is one of the hardest jobs there is.  Bless-bless, Barb
Riding around the shop  and taking a baby chick break...
I can't stop...  Maria is now heading over, so beware many more coming!
Three in a hand, and I'm done!
