I admit that I had some fake plans to start getting to daily mass in the morning at 7:15a just about 6 months ago when Maria was due to arrive and live with us for those 4 1/2 months. We managed to get there a few times, but with 5 little ones and so early in the morning... it kind of got next to impossible to manage. Now I am seeing that having prayer with the 2 men in our house is what I need to pursue at this time, and gets us all off on a better foot with the new day. Making breakfast, packing a lunch and sending them off with "Bye, honey or John, have a nice day." Just as Pat's parents attended daily mass when they got retired... I would hope that is in our future, too. It seems to be better for us if we do things together in putting Jesus first in our lives!
The words from St Paul to us in 2 Corinthians today are very powerful once again...
"always carrying about in the Body the dying of Jesus,
so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our body.
For we who live are constantly being given up to death
for the sake of Jesus,
so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh."
This is so much!!! This is the work of the Cross bringing us to LIFE/LOVE/LIGHT! This is going into the ground dying and producing much fruit! This is dying to self so that that The Holy Spirit can use our hands and feet and words and actions and we can become Christ knocking on the door of the poor!
I came across this prayer before Communion which is WOW!
"I give you my body as a temple,my heart as an altar and my soul as a pyx." My most cherished hour each week is that spent in gazing upon my Lord of the Universe dwelling in the humble form of bread in the monstrance in Adoration! So to think of my soul as a place where that Holy of Holies is residing and all those glorious rays of LIGHT are shooting out upon my domestic Church/family and all those I come in contact with... that is very deep and powerful for me!
Jesus, may we always look to your path laid out before us and follow you down the narrow path carrying/dragging our Most Cherished Cross and following after you. May you dwelling in our soul... shine forth and may we die to self so that you may live in us and we may be your hands and feet. Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Hallelujah
Today is the feast day of St. Germaine Cousin. She was a poor peasant girl abused and neglected by her family. She was cast out to sleep among the animals by her step mother. Despite being treated so poorly she was devout and loved God. She would attend Mass daily, leaving her guardian angel in charge of her flock. On a frigid winter day her step mother was scolding her, Germaine opened her apron and summer flowers poured out. Everyone was stunned by this miracle and began to accept Germaine as the holy girl she was. She died shortly after, found under the stairs in her sleeping place. She is the patron of abused children.
