Feast day extraordinare!

When I was in Kansas City a week ago... I couldn't help but think of one of their patron saints- St Francis- as we walked to mass through the quite streets... a small dog was attracted to us (probably the two is their blue habits - "the color of the heavens and in the shape of the Cross").  They told me that this little guy walks with them many mornings, as they climb the hill to the church.  I knew that we were close to the feast day of St Francis, and how the animals flocked to him.
Then a cat greeted us as we got to the entry of the church and even entered briefly - until one of the ladies carried her back out.  Today being a huge day of celebration within the Community of the Lamb, as their spiritual director is a Francisan - Fr Jean Claude!  Those were his words about their blue simple habits, and when he said them in French, and they were translated for us into English on the night that 5 took the habit and changed their names - we all wept!
This was the crucifix that greeted us as we entered the Polish Catholic church at the top of the hill that morning... the cat had just been put out, and we entered to share the eternal banquet with our loving and forgiving Lord and Savior!  St Francis also had the wounds of Christ on his body - the stigmata!

While in France...the language barrier is not an issue...they always have someone to translate for us into English - now we have Hallel to do it too!  Jean Claude has visited the community here in the U.S. in Kansas City, and was hugely impressed by the way that the people in the U.S. express and live their faith!  In Europe there is not much devotion, or attendance of church!  St Francis, we ask that you minister to your homeland, and bring hearts to know and love and serve you!

Even as he speaks to us... I would not be surprised if he were fingering his rosary beads, and saying it in his heart!  Happy Feast Jean Claude and Community of the Lamb!

St Dominic on the left and St Francis on the right... the patron saints of the community along with St Theresa of Avila and St Clare... So cool that St Clare is one of their paton saints as Maria was in the Poor Clares for 5 months considering religious life!

"All creatures of our God and King,
Lift up your voice and with us sing:
Halleluia!  Halleluia!
O burning sun with golden beam
And silver moon with softer gleam:
O praise him!  O praise him!
Halleluia!  Halleluia!  Halleluia!"
morning hymn - see http://www.magnificat.com/

An icon I came across of the two saints embracing... St Dominic and St Francis lived at the same time!

The animals that bring peace and comfort to us on this journey of life... the farm dogs that have been a constant parade on the farm... some tied to stop signs and left, some that others could not have due to issues, and some that came all the way from Montana with a daughter... they are God's creatures and look to us for affection and care!

The dogs are always waiting just out the door for pats and licks on faces and popcicles... They are a live and active part of our outside life!  They are a dear reminder to us of St Francis and how he saw God in all the earth!  From morning prayer is this canticle of Daniel 3: 57-87
"Bless the Lord all you works of the Lord.
Praise and exalt him above all forever.

Angels of the Lord: Bless the Lord.
You heavens: Bless the Lord.
Sun and moon: Bless the Lord.
Stars of Heaven: Bless the Lord.

Every shower and dew: Bless the Lord.
All you winds: Bless the Lord.
Fire and heat: Bless the Lord.
Cold and chill: Bless the Lord.
Nights and days: Bless the Lord.
Lightenings and clouds: Bless the Lord.

Let the earth bless the Lord.
Praise and exalt him above all forever.

Mountains and hills: Bless the Lord.
Everything growing from the earth: Bless the Lord.
Seas and rivers: Bless the Lord.
You dolphins and all water creatures: Bless the Lord.
All you birds of the air: Bless the Lord.
All you beasts, wild and tame: Bless the Lord.
You sons of men: Bless the Lord.
Holy men of humble heart: Bless the Lord"

Jesus, we love you in all that surrounds us... thank you for St Francis and his sharing your world of beauty with us! May we love you and serve you in and through your amazing universe and most especially within our domestic church - our families! Jesus, we trust in you! Amen and Halleluia!
Bless-bless, Barb

Canticle of Brother Sun and Sister Moon of St. Francis of Assisi

Most High, all-powerful, all-good Lord, All praise is Yours, all glory, all honour and all blessings.

To you alone, Most High, do they belong, and no mortal lips are worthy to pronounce Your Name.

Praised be You my Lord with all Your creatures,

especially Sir Brother Sun,

Who is the day through whom You give us light.

And he is beautiful and radiant with great splendour,

Of You Most High, he bears the likeness.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars,

In the heavens you have made them bright, precious and fair.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air,

And fair and stormy, all weather's moods,

by which You cherish all that You have made.

Praised be You my Lord through Sister Water,

So useful, humble, precious and pure.

Praised be You my Lord through Brother Fire,

through whom You light the night and he is beautiful and playful and robust and strong.

Praised be You my Lord through our Sister,

Mother Earth

who sustains and governs us,

producing varied fruits with coloured flowers and herbs.

Praise be You my Lord through those who grant pardon for love of You and bear sickness and trial.

Blessed are those who endure in peace, By You Most High, they will be crowned.

Praised be You, my Lord through Sister Death,

from whom no-one living can escape. Woe to those who die in mortal sin! Blessed are they She finds doing Your Will.

No second death can do them harm. Praise and bless my Lord and give Him thanks,

And serve Him with great humility.

Talk about the sun!  It was low in the sky, and making all the calves look very fuzzy... when we were out to see them the other night!  We were looking for 48A, otherwise known last spring as Oliver Twist.  He had been born C-section and in the process had wounds on the front of both legs that we had to clean and bandage each day for a long time... Well, we are standing there looking for him in the 100 plus calves in the bright sun, and suddenly... there he is in the front of them all , looking at us as if he remembers our caring for him day after day!  He is right behind Mary in this picture and her arm is covering up his tag, but we looked at his front legs and they look no different from the others!  Totally healed and covered with hair - no scars at all!  We rejoice that our hard work and care of him -even when he didn't like to be caught each day and put on his side on the ground with big farmer Pat sitting on him to hold him still...it all paid off and he seems to remember us and be thankful!  St Francis, we are blessed by our experiences with aminals in our lives and the ways that we are asked to care for them.  St Francis, pray for us on this your feast day!

92 and one day...

Three year old, Dave, gives grandma a birthday-hug at mass yesterday...
Great-Grandma helps Davey hold up three fingers for his 3 years of age... try putting up 92 fingers!
My 3 candles were fun to blow out... 92 would be hot and crazy!

A pig pinata is a must whether you are 3 or 92!  Everyone loves to have candy from heaven... or a pink pig!

How can sparking blue skies get old?

So dry!  The bright blue sky without a cloud in it day after day... is getting to be hard on everything!  Hard on equipment, hard on our eyes as we squint against the relenting sun, hard on the trees and plants that have survived this far, just hard on us as we long for rain!
Lord, we need rain so badly!  Lord, hear our plea!  Please protect the farmers as they struggle in the dust and the dryness to get this crop out of the field.  Jesus, we trust in you!  Amen and Halleluia!

Bless-bless, Barb

Happy 92nd birthday, mom Verly!

She brought much appreciated cookies to France!
She experienced all there was to experience of their life and work...

She's one tough cookie... "I/m not stubborn... I am just determined!"  So true of this woman and all that she has accomplished in her lifetime... the life is long and the milestones are many - including a trip to France - living with the Community of the Lamb when she was a few months away from 92!

Happy Birthday, mom!  Bless-bless your family

"Have no anxiety at all..." Philippians 4

On a ladder could be an axious time for me...today's second reading is worth me mendicating... chewing!
"Brothers and sisters:  Have no anxiety at all, but in everything , by prayer and petition , with thanksgiving make your requests known to God.  Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.  Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me.  Then the God of peace will be with you."
Thank you St Paul for giving us some concrete things to do to bring us to a place of goodness and light with our Lord, Jesus Christ!  Heaven on earth!  Jesus, we trust in you! Amen and Halleluia!

Bless-bless, Barb
"Ah!  if all weak and imperfect souls felt what the littlest of all souls feels, the soul of your little Therese, not one would despair of reaching the summit of the mountain of love, since Jesus does not ask for great actions but only abandonment and gratitude."  St Therese of the Child Jesus (1897)

Big "T" today... St Therese!

What a joy to realize that today is the feastday of St Therese of Lisiseux or of the Child Jesus... otherwise known as the little flower!  Whenever I see roses... I remember her promise to do hard work in heaven for all of us... "She promised to spend her heaven doing good on earth."  There are many stories of people asking for a sign in roses and receiving them from her!  I remembered the roses in France, and so went to my pictures from our recent visit to Hallel's Community of the Lamb, and that will be the backdrop for my sharing today!

Meals in France are wonderful relaxed times of one course of simple food after another... times that we shared as a family with our daughter, little sister Hallel!  When Susan/Hallel studied in Rome for her entire sophomore year as a Catholic Studies student at the University of St Thomas... she took a trip on her own to experience some of the spiritual gems that are within a train trip from Rome.  It centered mostly in France... including Lourdes, St Bernedette, and then to visit the tomb of St Therese!  In writing this I am struck by how Our Lady and her Son do work through and "appear" to those that are children... the humble of the world!

After sharing our wonderful "family" meals in France... they would always heat the water and wash the dishes together... reminding me today of the "small things with great love" that St Therese teaches the world!

Pat ducked in from hauling manure onto the field across the road - the beans have been harvested so now put some natural fertilizer on it!  We shared some morning prayer, which included a call to 3 year old Therese in Missouri, to wish her a happy feast day!  She is excited... as they are going to the park to celebrate with some little friends!  It was no surprise when Maria named her first daughter,Therese, as the Big "T" was very instrumental in her considering the call to religious life after reading her book...The Story of a Soul

"In a society that idolizes the surface of youth while forcing its children into artificial adulthood," ( I keep thinking of those little girls in makeup competing in beauty contests, and how it is so sad to see young girls looking old and tarnished by the makeup and trappings of looking older and more seductive... so sad!) "St Therese might seem foolishly childish, but in fact she teaches the real wisdom of the child: trustful willingness to be led, taught, and raised to true maturity according to God's plan rather than her own."  see http://www.magnificat.com/
St Therese... shower down roses of beautiful innocent and pure young people that resist the lures and temptations of the world and show us that true beauty lies within Christ!

Jesus, thank you for the gift of the children in the world to teach us how to love and serve you and each other.  The beautiful gift of those that allow nothing to come between you and them!  Help us this day to leave behind all those things that prevent us from saying a childish "yes" to all that you ask of us, as we serve you and one another doing small things with great love!  Jesus, we trust in you!  Amen and Halleluia!

“May today there be peace within.

May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.

May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.

May you be content knowing you are a child of God.

Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.

It is there for each and every one of us.”

― St. Thérèse de Lisieux

Happy Feast day, Sweet little Therese - always stay little on the inside as you grow in HIM!

More French roses...
Our Lady, show us how to be humble and small!

I knew I loved October!  It starts out with St Therese... reminding us to become and remain humble.  As I am days away from being 60... I am gracefully (?) accepting my graying hair and aging body... that certainly keeps a person humble!  It is the most beautiful time of year too!  Bless-bless
