The first week with a house full...

The second advent candle takes light!  One of the new kittens is in the middle of the advent wreath, and knocks over the statue of Mary and Jesus... no damage is done... the hectic noise and activity level of having little ones... a 2 1/2 year old, and a baby that will be one of the 21st, along with two 8 week old kittens, and a loud and football watching grandpa... at times it is a bit of a craziness that makes me want my empty nest...

Yet the life and energy and the love and hugs and kisses and times they crawl on our laps and speak to us in their baby and love language... the times we laugh at their antics fill us with the joy... and the times... when our home is empty except for the two of us...that we are alone or dissappointed with each other on our opposite ends of the house each watching our own shows on the TV... they have bridged the gap...they have made us forget about ourselves and focus on them, and their mom, and their happiness now that their lives have been turned upside down with this huge change in their family and lives... we are made better and happier to share their lives now!  We love family and are blessed to be reminded of that fact!
Thank you Lord for reminding us of the truth that an empty self-centered home is never better than a full one filled with laughter and love and sometimes yelling and crying and craziness... the sounds of family and all that means!  Jesus, we trust in you!  Amen and Halleluia!

Joy is strength.
Joy is love.
Joy is a net of love with which we can "catch" souls."  Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

"The earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord..." Isaiah 11

"The earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord, as water covers the sea."  Isaiah 11 - from the first reading at the second Sunday of Advent mass today!  So often I think of the love of family and our Church family as a big ocean of love, so this really caught my eye and pulled at me this morning...
Then these amazing words and images... I am sure that you have seen the paintings of the small children with all these beasts!          "Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; the calf and the young lion shall browse together, with a little child to guide them.  The cow and the bear shall be neighbors, together their young shall rest; the lion shall eat hay like the ox.  The baby shall play by the cobra's den, and the child lay his hand on the adder's lair.  There shall be no harm or ruin on all my holy mountain..."
Such a beautiful peaceful and loving picture...  all the fear is gone and all the danger is taken away... there is total trust and sharing of this world - a world filled with the knowledge of the Lord! How I long to be able to share that with those that are unaware of His Love for each of us... Total, free, faithful and fruitful love - the Love that He has for His Bride... the Church!
Dear Lord, How we long to see your face in all those hard and "savage" things in our lives..."So John preaches that "we might have hope" in the one that will come with "The Holy Spirit and with fire,"  who will tame what is savage in wild beasts, who will put a halt to harm and to ruin."  Thank you Lord, for that promise... To have the freedom from fear as cancer entered our lives in a very personal way in the last year and a half... we truly "laid our hands on the adder's lair."
We just finished a tea party with ice cream after the kids got up from their naps!  One thing about having ice cream at her tea party is that even grandpa will show up!  No, he wouldn't drink the tea..."That's for girls!"  he and Davey said...
Sunday afternoon high tea!  Serve ice cream and you never know who will show up!

Now I feel like I need to leave this slow moving sharing for today...I guess that Church and family filled it up and that is always a good thing!
Jesus we trust in you!  Amen and Halleluia!  Bless-bless, Barb

The beauty of Motherhood!

So beautiful to be able to watch my daughter with her two young children so closely and warmly.... They have been raised without computer and internet, so there is not much of the electronic distractions going on.  We just watched a video on St Elijah after supper for the last few nights before bath time... This is their daddy's patron saint and also very important in the miracle of the widow... with Halell's community of the Lamb!  How I loved those wonderful nest years and to have them living here with us... I can once again experience the simple joys of motherhood... feeding them, snuggling with them, bathing them, reading to them and a surprise!  Daddy just called to talk to them for 5 minutes!  They were all bathed and mommy was putting them down for bed... the phone rang... daddy's ring!  Therese got on the phone and in exciting happy terms told him; "I am at grandma's, I have tea parties and I had a popcicle after supper!"  All the important things that daddy needs to know, right?   Most importantly she told him that she loves him, and he can hear that she is staying happy and content while he is away from them!  Thank you Lord, and Jesus we trust in you and thank you for all the gifts that family gives to us!  Amen and Halleluia!
Bless-bless, Barb
"Where does love begin?
In our homes.
When does it begin?
When we pray together.
The family that prays together stays together."  Blessed Teresa of Calcutta

Woke up to a sunny white and glistening day, and JOY!

I walked out of the bedroom to the sound of laughter and delight! Therese had found the stretchy bands that John had used for therapy on his arm and leg... to her and her 11 month old brother and the two kittens they were colorful strings to chase and get tangled in!  As mom said to them... "get all tired out so that you take a nice nap!"
Little Alice (Allie) likes how it looks from an upsidedown angle.......too cute... on the cuteness scale of 1 to 10... definitely a 10!            Maria shared with me what their day had been like... starting with first Saturday mass and confession... How do you do that with 2 little kids?  I guess we don't have secrets in our family, and to go to confession with 2 1/2 year old ears there with you... could be interesting someday.  I will ask her how she manages it and get back to you on that...
Then they all went to Great Grandma and Ratera's house... It turned into a morning of familytime... David took a nap in the bedroom and Ratera and Therese made lunch for everyone while Maria ran errands minus kids... that rarely happens for her.  All in all Grandma had it quiet for sleeping after working all night and Maria and the kids had some family time...
So amazing to wake up to the activity of little ones... kids and kittens...They are so happy and comfortable here and it is a wonderful gift for us too!  The house it full of LIFE!  WE are blessed!  Then the big news!  Little Sister Hallel had tried to call all of us and finally gotten ahold of Nancy and they had talked for an hour!  She hadn't gotten the news that John was cancer free, so she had called...  She knew that the scan was to happen and needed to know the results!  We had tried to let her know by calling KC and the Little Sisters there, but the message had not gotten passed on.  At least we got to talk to her as a result of the breakdown of communication!
Nancy told her dad that it is the same old silly/goofy Susan... It is kind of wonderful for her family to realize that no matter what lifechanging experiences she is having... that no one will ever alter the person and personality that is underneath!  We have not lost Susan/Hallel... we have just gained many more members of our family!  It would have been good to talk with her, but I am happy for Nancy to have such a nice silly conversation with her Hallel!  I am sure that the baby was a big topic of conversation!  I know that Susan/Hallel has not had a chance to talk to her since the wedding and the new life news!
Little Davey is almost as involved in chasing the streamers as the kitties... For sure he follows everywhere his sister goes so that he can see all the action... usually as he is wrapped up in the middle of them with all the commotion!  Grandma's camera cannot snap fast enough to catch it all!  That's what you get when you try to take a movie of a lot of crazy activity with an old still camera!

"I will restore you to health; of your wounds I will heal you, says the Lord.  From them will resound songs of praise, the laughter of happy men (and children).... they will not be tiny, for I will glorify them."  Jeremiah 30: 17a,19             Pat is in watching Saturday college football, Maria after a short nap is washing dishes, and the kids are sleeping quietly after all the busyness of a big day ending with some activity back and forth in the house... the kittens are in a sunny spot and snoozing too!  Baby animals and kids are what started me on my journey called..."Never go anywhere without your camera!"  Oh yeah... one more thing... a hunky farmer husband didn't hurt getting me hooked on taking pictures to store all of the love and amazing things to see all around me!  My 5 kids left home for college with a scrapbook for every year they had been alive!  That is a crazy lot of pictures... talk about trying to have a big movie of their lives taken with still pictures!  I know that when Maria and Joe were dating... they would take a scrapbook a week to sit down and share together...even Maria's awkward years were shared - now that is a sign of true love... sharing that humbling time in your life...
There is not much about Maria's life that Joe missed... when they were done with all of that!  Now with digital...they are in my computer and on my blog... Therese will have to sit at a laptop to share with her future spouse!  I know that it is a bit overwhelming, and a lot of bagage too... sorry about that kids!  It is just that the farmlife with babies and baby animals and hunky farmer husband were too much for me to allow to fade into the sunset!  All the hours I have spent on pictures would rival the hours I have spent in prayer and that is not a good thing... I know and ask for forgiveness, dear Lord and your wonderful Mother of all!

"Where is my girl and her colorful ribbons?"  The psalm in the mass readings for today is called an Hallel psalm... there are many around Psalm 100 and the last 5... Psalm 145-150 are called "Hallel Psalms"... this means Praise and Joy and supreme worship of God!  Think of the word "Halleluia" which is obviously the root word and you will see what it all means!
Psalm 147
Praise the Lord, for he is good;
sing praises to our God, for he is gracious;
it is fitting to praise him...
He heals the brokenhearted
 and binds up their wounds.
He tells the number of the stars;
he calls each by name.

Great is our Lord and mighty in power:
to his wisdom there is no limit.
The Lord sustains the lowly...
Blessed are all who wait for the Lord.
The Gospel for today... I can hear Hallel's community as they chant and sing these amazing words and actions of Our Loving and Forgiving Savior..."Jesus went around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom, and curing every disease and illness.  At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd...."  Mt 9: 35- 10:1
His words to us as He felt such pity for those that are lost..."Go the the lost sheep... As you go, make this proclamation:'The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons.  Without cost you have received;without cost you are to give."  Mt 10: 5a, 6-8        So many around me... everywhere I go...are as lost sheep...How can I make a difference?  My heart is broken to hear of their confused and misled and sad lives without the knowledge and love of God.  I will continually lift them up in prayer and love them... I can do that!
"This is the way; walk in it."  From the first reading of the mass Isaiah 30... How powerful it is to know that there is a path laid out before each one of us to walk and to follow!  I am forever changed and filled with wonder when I view my personal PATH!
Amazing meditation of the day today written by Fr Simon Tugwell... see http://www.magnificat.com/          What the Twelve Proclaimed............"Whatever our problem is, whatever the anxiety we bring to the Lord, he has got only one thing to say, only one answer: himself... The only solution that God has to offer to all our problems is himself, is the fact that he is, that he is the kind of God that he is, a God who has a Word to utter, which he utters in an ecstasy of Joy, and ecstasy of giving, which we call the Holy Spirit... God has only the one thing to say, which is himself, he has only the one thing to give, which is himself.  And he invites us to hear the Word, to treasure it in our hearts, and to find in it the source of all our bliss.  He wants us, quite precisely, to enter into the Joy of our Lord (Mt 25: 21)... We must accept that God is the kind of God who, if he wants to show himself in our world, must do so in weakness and poverty..."
"God has never promised that if only we have enough faith, if only we pray enough, all problems will disappear... So we must respect the law of God's giving, letting him give what he does have to give, himself... This peace, this joy, can never be shattered because it's foundation is in God's own infinite joy and peace."            Lord, we cling to you and know that we are loved and that fills us with JOY and Peace without end... no matter the storms of life that wash over us... you keep us afloat!
Well, I have written through the kids naptime and the activity is soon to begin again... Jesus, we love you and are filled with the joy that we see in the little ones in our midst!  What a ministy these little innocent ones have to the world! May they change it for the better ast they pass on your peace and Joy!  Jesus, we trust in you and thank you!  Amen and Halleluia!

Pat loves kids!

Sharing a bowl of tomato soup on a cold winter day... Life could not be better for grandpa... how he loves to have a small one on his lap and always has been that way!  On the farm there is no way of knowing when the job at hand will allow you to join the family for a meal... usually coming in late... Pat would have kids "helping" him eat his food... His big lap seems to just be made for little ones to sit and share food with him!
He was so excited to have our house full with Maria home with her two kids here... while their dad is joining the ... Grandpa was so looking forward to having them here to enjoy and "spoil."  Davey has already found that when grandpa is in for meals that he can sit in his lap and discover the world of food from the perspective of that big wonderful Grandpa!  Tonight he had his whole hand in grandpa's applesauce... Grandpa didn't get mad... he laughed and let Davey put his whole hand in that big mouth to get cleaned off! Now that is special!
You never know where one of the "house kittens"that granpa got for the kids will pop up... He had never had pets in the house growing up on the farm, and our girls would have some that they could bring in for some time now and then... but to start a long winter with 2 house kittens... that just shows how much grandpa is willing to spoil the kids!  I have one right now that is either playing with the cords of the computer or sitting on my shoulder purring... if this seems a bit distracted... now you understand.

Lord, thank you for a man, who has always loved kids and been open to life!  "The world needs lights."  He said to me when we decided that openness to children/life was what we wanted within our family!  It was a tall order, but one that we embraced whole heartedly and continue to!  Thank you Lord, for all the times we are allowed to grow in love as our family becomes more and more full of those wonderful new lives... devoted to You!  Jesus, we trust in you!  Amen and Halleluia!
Bless-bless, Barb... I will be working overnight at the nursing home, so will be sharing later tomorrow.
"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone.  You have brought them abundant joy and great rejoicing.  As they rejoice before you as at the harvest, as people make merry when dividing the spoils.  For a child is born to us, a son is given us; upon his shoulder dominion rests.  They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.  His dominion is vast and forever peaceful, from David's throne, and over his kingdom, which he confirms and sustains by judgement and justice, both now and forever." Isaiah 9: 1-2, 5-6

"He comes as someone gentle, someone humble." St Ambrose

We are rejoicing today as we faced the "dragon-cancer" and once again defeated him!  Praise God!  When our doctor walked in the room beaming... all our fears evaported into thin air!  She lifted John's stocking hat had asked about his hair situation... "Not much." was his responce... then they both put the blame on the Radiation doctor with smiles and kidding and JOY!  How small is the loss of his hair in the scheme of life... He has his life back from the brink of death!  WE are filled with gratitude and peace!
Sitting on the 17th floor... calling family to share the Good News!   John was gone to get his flu shot down the hall... I laid back in the chair by the huge amazing windows and looked out on the beautiful and familiar view....
So many times in the last year and a half... would I stand at these windows filled with such wide ranges of feelings!  Last winter looking down day and after day at the Christmas scenes as John and I prepared for stem cell... Our last step and final hope along with all the prayers... that is where we found the strength and the healing!

I held onto Pat's large warm hand and I looked up at the beautiful white clouds in the vivid blue sky... such peace flowed over me... My precious son is free on cancer once again!  I can find it easier to Trust that He continues to be with John and have a bright and wonderful future ahead for him!  The clouds of fear and doubt had been there just a short time ago, but now we have another good visit... we had so many hard times that we find it hard not to be worried!

John and Pat are amazed at a piece of artwork in a case as we come off the elevator... Life has taken on a new and wonderful sheen and we are in awe of the gift of a new a healthy life!  Our son is healed!  Just as the two blind men are healed today after Christ asks them; "Do you believe that I can do this?"  "Yes, Lord," they said to him."  Mt 9:27-31..."Then he touched their eyes and said,'Let it be done for you according to your faith.'"  I am not saying that our faith is so great... but it sure helps to have so many praying for John every day!  So many share that they continue to pray for him and have not given up on that... we continue to need, depend and trust in all the prayers continuing to get us through!

Life is a beautiful amazing gem that we adore and marvel at!  Life is especially marvelous when the verdict is a good one!  "Your brain is clear of cancer!"  Things around us take on a new and amazing LIGHT!  Watching the clouds drift overhead while holding on to the huge loving hand of my husband... we both let the last year and a half drift over us and remembered how many times the Lord has held us in the palm of His hand, and answered our tearful and pleading prayers for healing and saving of our precious son!  So many times I have cried loud and agonizingly as I beseeched the Lord to save me from this nightmare... "I want to wake up from this bad dream!"  I have finally started to come into the LIGHT of day!
"Out of the gloom and darkness, the eyes of the blind shall see.  The lowly will ever find joy in the Lord, and the poor rejoice in the Holy One."  Isaiah 29: 17-24 The first reading in mass today!    "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is my life's refuge; of whom shall I be afraid?"  No one!  Nothing!  Not even cancer of the brain!  You, Lord, are in control and we are filled with Light, Life and Peace which passes understanding!  The world has taken on a fresh newness of Life!
From a distance it is without color... but as you get closer... it takes on an amazing myriades of glittering gemlike colors... we linger and are amazed... our joy abounds!
We wanted to celebrate the joy and good news! On the way to return John to his fraternity we called our daughter and husband that live up there and arranged to go to a crazy busy restaurant to laugh, eat, allow kids to lick the salt and pepper shakers and all the things you do with a 11 month old and 2 1/2 year old... the lysol spray and the windex were brought out after we left there!  But we whooped together with JOY!  Life is a gift for us every 3 months with a clear scan!  Jesus,  we cling to you with Trust!

Life is so good and so amazing... this is truly a little slice of heaven!  Family is where we find our strength and our hope and our peace and Joy when we are freed from sin and death and find new life!

Little Therese loves her "Nana" ... they lived together for the whole last year and that was our island of peace and light in the midst of the stormy sea...  Now Nancy is married and to have a child of her own!  We rejoice with them and know that our "gentle humble" Lord in the form of a tiny helpless infant is close to our hearts at this advent time of year!  He reminds us of the Gift of LIFE, and we can only be in awe as He continues to bring life and light into the world for us to nuture and share the beauty and wisdom of His Church with within our domestic churches - our families!

The snow is falling on our beautiful white world... it held off so that we could travel our 9 hours on the road over the last few days...tonight I have to travel to my nursing home to work the night shift... It looks to be a winter of allowing more time and 4 wheel drive vehicles to get us safely where we need to be.

It is nice when we are all snuggled in the house with the wood stove going and the kitties and grandkids to entertain us...  But there are places that we need to be... I did go to mass with my daughter, and two little ones this morning... a wonderful start to a day filled with the knowledge and love of Him!

Life is always a new adventure to discover for the little ones... but we are always growing and learning to trust with all that comes to us in life...           Jesus, we are forever thankful and as I loudly proclaimed at mass today at the petitions... "In Thanksgiving for the continued gift of Healing!" How it fills us with wonder at the beauty of the world around us and creation... the Love of family, and you, Dear Lord,  and our Church, and all those that are lovingly supporting us in prayer... we cannot be more filled with joy and happiness and deep heartfelt gratitude! May we not loose sight and become blind to this Light and new life we have been gifted with!  We fall on our knees and contemplate you as a tiny child in the manger! You are total gentleness and humility for us to follow and to realize; "The Lord Jesus took compassion on us in order that he might call us to himself and not scare us away."  St Ambrose... Jesus, we trust in you!  Amen and Halleluia!

Bless-bless, Barb
"A precious time has begun for us... The season of Advent has a holiness and sweetness all its own.  It is the time toward which the prophets and saints of the ancient covenant during 4 thousand years sighed with incomparable ardor, crying out to God: 'O that thou wouldst rend the heavens and come down!' (Is 64: 1) to deliver those that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death.  All the happenings, all the symbols of the Old Testament, had the one end of setting the grandeur of him who was to come, and who now has come.  Let us,then, thank God and always praise him, that he has created us at this time and under this law of grace, that he has willed to give us his gifts and his riches in such abundance, if we will only take them.... We must, therefore, consider carefully how we have fallen and how we can rise again out of our sins and vices to our first innocence."  Fr John Tauler,OP
