Luke, Rose and Joy along with the angle Maria stenciled on the window probably over 20 years ago... still there and reminding us on this feast of the Archangels of those messengers of LIGHT that are all around us and with us on this journey!

Outside the men are busy with combine, grain cart, semis, and manure spreader... inside Ruth, I, and the kids made two canners full of tomatoes and Vegetables and made 30 quarts of tomato soup... so good on these chilly days for the 7 families we make food for!

Ruth commented that Luke's fellow boy classmates in preschool would be amazed at all the equipment Luke gets to watch from their farmhouse on days like today!
The feast day today seems especially powerful and poignant, in that we are in the midst of a crisis in our church and in our country, and the St Michael prayer which brings to mind and heart the battle from Revelations in Rev 12 in the first reading today!
"War broke out in heaven;
Michael and his angels battled against the dragon.
The dragon and its angels fought back,
but they did not prevail
and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.
The huge dragon, the ancient serpent,
who is called the Devil and Satan,
who deceived the whole world,
was thrown down to earth,
and its angels were thrown down with it."
Yes! War broke out on earth and we call upon St Michael to:

Jesus, we love your heavenly hosts of angels, Saints, and your mother Mary most holy! The words from the rosary came from the mouth of St Gabriel and the rosary from St Dominic using the words from the Gospel! My rosary in calling out to me! A memory from 3 years ago when the kitchen was on the other side of the house... 200 quarts of applesauce with Domo and Luke! Lots of changes over those 3 years... switched houses and remodeled them and these two are 3 years older! Luke will be 5 in a month!
St. Therese - a young person who chose God.
Her feast day is in 3 days. Let's start a triduum asking her to pray for us. She promised to spend her heaven doing good on earth.
Let's ask her to pray for the Church, for young Catholics and their vocational discernment - that they put God first in their lives, and for the Synod of Bishops next month.

From the Third Nocturne of Matins of the feast of Saint Michael the Archangel
We speak of nine orders of Angels, because we know, by the testimony of Holy Scripture, that there are the following: Angels, Archangels, Virtues, Powers, Principalities, Dominations, Thrones, Cherubim and Seraphim. It must be realized that "Angel" is the name of their office, not of their nature. For the holy Spirits of the heavenly homeland are always Spirits, but they cannot always be called Angels; they are Angels only when they are announcing something. Those who announce less important things are called Angels, and those who announce the highest things are called Archangels. And so not any Angel but the Archangel Gabriel was sent to Mary; for this ministry, it was fitting to have the highest Angel, since he was to announce the greatest news of all. These Archangels are also given special names to describe their particular virtue. For Michael means "Who is like to God?" Gabriel means "Strength of God," and Raphael "Medicine of God."
Whenever something is to be done needing great power, Michael is sent forth so that from his action and his name we may understand that no one can do what God can do. Hence that old enemy who through pride desired to be like God is shown at the end of the world, left to his own strength and about to undergo the final punishment, as destined to fight with Michael the Archangel, as John says, "There was a battle with Michael the Archangel." Similarly, Gabriel was sent to Mary; he who is called "Strength of God" came to announce Him who deigned to appear in humility to conquer the powers of the air. And Raphael is interpreted, as we said, "Medicine of God," for when he touched the eyes of Tobias to do the work of healing, he dispelled the "night of his blindness."
