Summer Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A great day filled with family time, farm time, and faith time!  Top it off with a photo shoot around the yard - David's 4th bithday coming up in a month got me started, and then new little growing Rose Ida is another great reason to get some pictures!
The lighting and the fluffy hay as a setting for little Rose Ida with her special mom,Ruth Ida! She has some hay in her hand and in her hair... I am sure that it won't be the last time for that!
Oh yes, the photo shoot of David... Roger is always a cute addition and the grain bins are fun too for...

Black and white and both panting with their tongues out!  Too much fun!
That's a cute almost 4 year old!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Bless-bless, Barb

"Behold,I am with you always..." Matthew 28: 16-20

With this being Maria and Joseph's wedding weekend anniversary - I had found all these amazing pictures from that day 5 years ago... they had 4 priests and my dad as a permanent Deacon!  Fr Germain Louwagie is a cousin of my mother-in-law, and Fr Sam is a priest that grew up in San Lucas, Guatemala and was at our parish for a few years... then there were two that knew Maria and Joe from St Thomas.  A very amazing wedding mass it was!  So many amazing priests there to concelebrate the mass and to reveal the many different ways we are blessed by the priesthood from family and from the outreach/mission of our diocese to Guatemala - Pat and his sister Raterra had gone with Fr Sam on a week long trip to Guatemala!  A lifechanging experience it was for them!  My dad was a very powerful image also to be on the altar and performing the deacon roles in the mass - even with 4 priests!  It was a very amazing day for us - to be there surrounded by a large group of young people fluently responding in Latin throughout the service!  Maria, Susan and Nancy have all gotten into a wonderful group of the young Orthodox Catholics, who love and value all that the Catholic upholds to us in the Sacraments and the Truth!
So powerful and so many blessings - the Gospel for today is reminding us that "All power in heaven and earth has been given to me.  Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age." Yes, Jesus, we are filled to the brim with the Truth of the Trinity! The Father loved us so much that He sent You to embrace all of our humanness and then embrace the Cross to take away our sins and distractions that seperate us from you.  The darkness was vanished with the breaking of a New Day - Your life within us the indwelling of your Holy Spirit!  Jesus, may we go forth into our lives/family/domestic Church and be your hands and feet!  Jesus, we trust in you!  Amen and Halleluia

Bless-bless, Barb
"Brothers and sisters: Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.  For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back in fear, but you received a Spirit of adoption, through whom we cry, 'Abba, Father!'  The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may be glorified with him."
Romans 8: 14-17

Five years ago!

So happy to go back to the joyful occassion we were ALL at together in St Paul - Maria and Joseph's wedding!   Now with their family in Texas, and little Sister Hallel in France - it just seems like such a long time since we have all been together physically!  Shortly after this - about 3 months later Susan left for France following her decision to join the Community of the Lamb.  Then less than a year later she flew home, when it looked like John had very rare and scary brain cancer!
To "see" my kids together gives me great joy, and to see them being silly and laughing at their loving goofy attitude... it is great fun!  I yearn for more family occassions when we will all be together in the future.  I am anticipating a phone call from Hallel hopefully in the next year saying that she is returning to Kansas City, and the wave after wave of Verly families will go to see her and get a real HUG!  And to imagine how her first home visit will go... I have dreams about this happening regularly.  Maybe that is how it has to happen - in my dreams to fill in the longing that I have to be with her.  My prayer of late - "That I can get a hug soon!"  Maybe having her home in my dreams is my answered prayer?!?!
Jesus, I trust in you.  Bless-bless, Barb

The JOY!

A burning question...

Not surprisingly the world news has focused with interest on the sisters in our country that the Holy Father is cracking down on, because they are not upholding the values of the Catholic Church when it comes to life and marriage.  I said to Pat..."What would they do if they couldn't talk about the Catholic Church in the news?" - we are absolutely fascinating, and they can twist it to look like we are messed up and off our rockers, or even that we are misled and in the dark ages!  I watched the CBS news over the last week and they showed heroic and caring sisters - one was a Pediatrician working in a huge hospital, saving the lives of the small and helpless children that came in to the ER there.  Truly a great work and in the name of the Catholic Church - a most beautiful thing that she can devote her life to these young and in desperate need!  Yet, they shared on Friday that the Sisters had responded to the Church in Rome with a condescending tone that the Church is out of touch and that giving the poor birth control is done out of love and concern for them.  They made it look in the interest of these people to hand them the Pill.  But I was just laying in bed - I worked overnight last night - and it just ate at me that this was such a disservice to the poor!  It has perpetuated this ugly cycle where there are multiple partners, STDs, absent fathers, loss of morals and values, on and on.  I wondered if there are any groups that teach the natural methods of preventing pregnancy - yes, it takes time and some learning about the woman's body and abstaining when they are fertile... yet, it is the whole answer to breaking this ugly cycle of sin and death!  Yes, death!  The pill is an abortive agent and many times the fertilized ovum is forced from the body in the way it works!  I googled the question if anyone is teaching the poorest of the poor the natural family planning - after looking through tons of junk and negative sharing about the Church's stand - I found this...http://www.maximusnewspub.com/loveandfertility/files/LAF_PressKit.pdf  It is about a method that has a book and CD, and is used by the Missionaries of Charity in India to teach the poorest of the poor with 99% effectivenss!  "Wilson’s book is now available in 21 languages and has been used widely in countries where natural methods are more appealing to their culture and traditions. The easy-to-follow and beautifully illustrated guide has also been used in countries where illiteracy is high with extraordinary results."
This is so positive, and the answer that I was hoping to find.  That loving Sisters or people - realizing the The Catholic Church is a beacon set on the hill for LIFE!  They see that the Church is not in the "dark ages" rather they are in the LIGHT, and upholding the banner for Truth and LIFE and showing us the WAY to break the chains.  Not with the handing out of birth control which just makes the problem worse - perpetuating the sin and the resulting "death."  But in lovingly taking the time to invest in teaching them the respect of their bodies and abstaining from sex if they need to wait for a child to be brought lovingly into this world!  It is possible,it is highly effective, and it is the answer to the sad state of darkness that many - no matter how rich or poor find themselves by using this "easy" way of preventing and taking LIFE!
Thank you Missionaries of Charity - Blessed Teresa of Calcutta's order - for showing the world that the poor can indeed learn to use natural methods and learn to value themselves and LIFE.  The Church is here to help us find the Truth and to accomplish eternal LIFE!  I am so saddened by the complicated lies and deception that is done in the name of a loving responce to the mess that contraception has gotten our world.  It just gets deeper and deeper and more into the darkness!  Lord, we need your Truth to set us free!  We are yours and created in your image.  May we truly "see" with eyes of faith, and value all LIFE!  Jesus, we trust in you!  Amen and Halleluia!

 Bless-bless, Barb
"Build yourselves up in your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit.  Keep yourselves in the love of God and wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.   On those who waver, have mercy; save others by snatching them out of the fire; on others have mercy with fear, abhoring even the outer garment stained by the flesh.
To the one who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you unblemished and exultant, in the presence of his glory,  to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord be glory, majesty, power, and authority from ages past, now, and for ages to come.  Amen."
Jude 17: 20-25 The first reading in mass today!
Blessed and Happy 5th wedding anniversary Maria and Joseph!    We love you and are forever changed by your loving domestic Church/family!  Jesus, bless Maria and Joseph with your continued love and guidance in their following the path laid out before them carrying their Most Cherished Cross in the .  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Halleluia!

Joyously Ongoing Heroic Newness - JOHN!

John called yesterday to tell me that he just got his own office and would I like to get some pictures together for him... Then he, with the help of a friend found this great frame on the sale rack and I told him that he knows how to push my buttons.  I will drop everything and anything to work with pictures... so he came home for lunch today and we shared time saying the rosary - his delightful idea - and I found the pictures that he wanted to include... family and his favorite cow, Bertha, would pretty much describe it!  He said that the secretaries already checked it out, and John and I both agreed that he is blessed by one special family.  It seems that when you do something like this and put them all together - it tells a wonderful story of the great blessings we feel all around us within our family/domestic Church!  The picture on top is a very poignant one of our family - Pat and I and our 5 children taken in St Joseph hospital a little over 3 years ago when John's brain cancer brought us all together!  Susan had just come back from France, where she was preparing to enter the Community of the Lamb... so it was a huge thing for us all to be there together.  It is a good thing that we snapped this then, because it has not happened since!  I am not shy about cutting Hallel out of another picture and adding her to a family picture to have it complete, but this one is just so powerful for us to see as it marks the beginning of our united battle along with so many prayer warriors, the sacraments, the Blessed Mother, the angels and Saints!
John gave me a blessing to write on caringbridge tonight about his graduation from college and now working and living with us here at home!  We are once again counting our blessings with the reminder of where we were by a cousin of mine, who is on very much the same course as John!  You can follow him on his caringbridge site - http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/marcz  We can support him with our own lessons learned, and he has reminded us of just how much we have to be thankful for, and that with all that comes we must trust in HIM!  Thank you, Jesus, and we do trust in you.  Amen and Halleluia

Bless-bless, Barb

More art photo time in the pasture last night... 3 hours out there added up to lots of fun with pictures and prayers.  But that Rosary with John today was a total gift and could have started - Rosary-Lunch!   Food will taste so good!  What a gift!  Did you know that clover was so fuzzy?  Now we do!

Personal Reaching Always Yearning Everlasting Realm...PRAYER!

Sweet Dave with his sleeping 1month old baby sister, Rose Ida.  Some days I just need to make an acronym out of a word to express and think about how much that word means to me.  Today that word is PRAYER!  I have been reminded very much in the last week the power of prayer, and how it was something so real and constant with the year battle we had with John's brain cancer - in two weeks we are at the 3 year mark for it all began in earnest on Father's Day 2009!   John at morning prayer - which is a reminder of the daily prayer we shared as we together faced the enemy cancer - prayed "for all those, who prayed for me."  Really this is very close to all of our hearts... I still pray the Crown of Thorns decade... for all those that were prayer warriors with us, and that adds up to thousands!  There is someone in my life now, who is coming to Rochester to meet with the same surgeon that did John's biopsy, and is going to have him do surgery on his tumor!  It is so close to home, and to go back to that point is about the worst place in our year for us!  We were terrified to allow him to go into John's brain with that needle to try to discover what the tumor was, but for him to be unable to walk afterwards and never be entirely the same since... it was a very scary place and I am shaking inside to go back there!  I was reminded by his cousin - "What did little Sister Hallel tell you?  And we must trust that Jesus is in control and it is all in his hands."  Such a good reminder to me!
Hallel told me to consider the Gospel for that Father's day 2009 - Mark 4: 35-40  Jesus calms the sea!  "Mom, do you remember the Gospel for today?"  She asked me when we called her after leaving the ER in Marshall and a CT scan showed that there was something in his brain.  "Yes, it was Jesus calming the storm."  "Well, mom, this is the storm and Jesus is in control!"  It was as if He had stood up and rebuked the wind right then and there.      39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.  40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”   After all my life with the finger print of God on my life... my family, my conversion, meeting my Catholic farmer, Pat Verly, our 11 children - 5 with us and 6 in heaven, my daily journey of Catholicism and the joy of walking with HIM and his Bride the Church, the faith of my children in our domestic Church, and then their through strong Catholic marriage and openness to LIFE - family... how could I not remember, and have faith, and KNOW that Jesus is in control of the storm?  Brain cancer!  That is about the worst "storm" I could think of, and in my only beloved son!  So overwhelming!   Yet, just look at how he has cared for my every need and blessed me beyond measure!  And remember the army of prayer warriors that were gathered around us and the spiritual army that fought for us... the angels, saints - especially Blessed John Paul II, Venerable Solanus Casey, and Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady, the Holy Catholic Church with all the sacraments there for us every day... John was annointed 3 times on our journey - one time was at 8a mass with the entire packed church blessing him with out reaching hands and the relic of Solanus Casey pressed to his head!  Prayer transformed and healed not only John, but many of those that were praying with us.  Prayer became so REAL and powerful and something that truly is a Personal Reaching Always Yearning Everlasting Realm!

Rose responds to the love of her mom and dad and siblings.  Mary calms her with a kiss.  From the Gospel today - Mark 11 - "My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples..."  How we found this to be true as we were united behind John and his battle against brain cancer!  I remember a young 14 year old girl in our faith formation class being so excited when we announced last year that John had been a year without cancer - " I was at that mass when we all prayed over him, and I have been praying ever since, and now he is healed!"  She could see that her prayers were answered and that prayer is a powerful and real thing!  Jesus tells us this in the Gospel today too..."I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours.  When you stand to pray, forgive anyone against whom you have a grievance, so that your heavenly Father may in turn forgive you your transgressions."  When I finished reading this today John immediately responded with an joyful..."That's so good!"  He thanks God for his cancer, because it has brought him true faith and he knows that PRAYER is for real and true!

Rose me the cows for the first time!  Jesus, we are filled with such deep rivers of lifegiving waters as we come to you with prayerful needs.  Life is filled with the uncertainty of what each new day will bring.   There are storms on the horizon, but we must focus on you, and trust that you will continue to be in control of our lives!  We see how you have touched us over and over and calmed the seas that looked to be washing over us.  Even when we are tossed out of the boat - your reach down and grasp our hands and show us how to walk on water - trusting in you and "believing" in prayer and your listening ear.  When we are weak and in need is when we turn to you.  We find that when all is going well in our lives - we can forget that you are there, and become puffed up with ourselves and the "stuff" that distracts us from you.  "Have faith in God.  Amen, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen,it shall be done for him."  Yes, Lord!  We do believe and ask that you come and dwell within us - Come, Holy Spirit, Come!  We are yours, and long for you to show us the path to eternal life - yes, we know that we must pass through the Cross to find the resurrection.  May we follow after you carrying our Most Cherished Cross, and leave our selfishness behind.  "Wounded, I will not cease to love."  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Halleluia!

Bless-bless, Barb
"Speak tenderly to them. Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting. Always have a cheerful smile. Don't only give your care, but give your heart as well. "

"The more you have, the more you are occupied, the less you give. But the less you have the more free you are. Poverty for us is a freedom. It is not mortification, a penance.  It is joyful freedom. There is no television here, no this, no that. But we are perfectly happy."

"I pray that you will understand the words of Jesus, “Love one another as I have loved you.” Ask yourself “How has he loved me? Do I really love others in the same way?” Unless this love is among us, we can kill ourselves with work and it will only be work, not love. Work without love is slavery."
Quotes from Blessed Teresa of Calcutta to give us things to ponder this day!  St Justin, the martyr pray for us this day!  "God in his very essence is truth and light, and when he enters his temple he drives out ignorance and darkness, revealing himself in all his brightness."  Fr John Tauler(1361)

Art in the pasture last night!  Thank you, Lord!  Nature is a gift of facinating hours pondering signs of your LOVE in PRAYER!
