"If they fall they shall not stay down..." Psalm 37:24

Yes, today marks our 37th anniversary!  Pat was very sweet and got us a overnight together and we awoke to our official anniversary!  Coming home we had to stop by Ruth and Paul's to check the hay in the ditch.  Stopping in David picked up the heart rock he found and is displayed on their front porch... leading to this most cherished gift - our official 37 year portrait!  Yes, our marriage is a hard as this rock... chiseled and formed by millions of years of grinding... We continue to have hard work to do, and we grind off the rough edges one for the other and that is usually not very pleasant to go through.

Hallel showed me the beauty of using the Psalm for that year as a special way of gleaning special meaning for these milestones and Psalm 37 does not disappoint!
If they fall, they shall not stay down, because the Lord will help them up.  Psalm 37:24
The Lord guides us in the way we should go and protects those who please him.  Psalm 37:23
I am old now; I have lived a long time, but I have never seen good people abandoned by  the Lord or their children begging for food.  At all times they give freely and lend to others, and their children are a blessing.  Turn away from evil and do good, and your descendants will always live in the land; for the Lord loves what is right and does not abandon his faithful people.  Psalm 37: 25-28
Pat's cows and calves look wonderful on pasture this time of year!  Driving through the countryside this early bright morning with not a cloud in the sky...  Farmer Patrick spoke with some emotion about how the crops are looking so wonderful this year, and how bountiful they are!  "It is so amazing at how much we grow here in just 4 short months.  We rival other places where crops can grow year round and we are at the mercy of Mother Nature."  "Our production is truly amazing!"  Pat loves his vocation of famer and I love this and foremost how he has promoted LIFE/Family/raising LIHGTS!  It makes for a marvelous man in my eyes!
The sky above and the farm below...

Today in the Gospel is Matthew's version of the feeding of the 5,000!  Matthew 14:13-21.  Such a beautiful promise that we will always be cared for and "they all ate and were satisfied."  Sometimes life seems to cause me great anxiety and I feel down about myself, but just as the heart rock... I come through it with the help of my Faith in Jesus, and His Bride, The Church, and find my shape is more that of LIFE/LOVE/LIGHT through the cross!
A morning glory brightens the beginning of our 38th year!  May we find more love, patience and understanding in this new year ahead!
Raking the ditch... baling is wrapping up for a while.  It has been hectic!
The abundance of corn along the waterway with bales to be picked up last week.
The setting sun cast my shadow of the pickup with the bale rack behind on the tall and productive corn field!
Now with bales on the rack and the bean field as my canvas... a beautiful sight to behold!  The Lord truly has cared for us and given us a wonderful life raising our LIGHTS on the farm.

Jesus, thank you for all your blessings over these last 37 years!  May this new year together be filled with all of your blessings and LOVE one for the other.  Yes, we fall but we will not stay down, because the Lord will help us up.  Psalm 37:24  May we continually learn from our trials and therefore value our sacrament of marriage that much more!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah

Sing with Joy to God our help.  Psalm 81:2a from mass today!
A good motto for marriages!
Another good one for me!

 They are learning so much!
 Wow!
Special picture taken by 6 year old grandson, David!  No better gift to be so close to our wonderful Ruth and Paul and their great family on the farm!  Thank you, dear Lord!

Too easy?... we take it for granted

It is fun to see how comfortable and at home our grandchildren are at our church.  The 3 youngest came out following their dad and his example of serving as reader at mass.  Involved in their Faith.
Watching Mary writing in her mass journal last week got me doing it this week.  Thank you, Mary!  It was good to really help me take it to heart...  Father spoke of how we challenging moments bring us to Jesus.  "When we have things come too easily - like our ability to worship - we take it for granted."  He spoke of 3 modern day saints who had to bring the Eucharist into difficult situations... St Maximilian Kolbe in the concentration camp, St Damien's work with lepers in Hawaii, St John Paul II underground in Communist Poland... how precious would it be to receive Jesus - the Bread sent from heaven under such extreme situations?  May we find Jesus in our JOY and our security we are blessed with here in America!
Time with Pat's mom - sharing the Bread of LIFE with her and time watching EWTN.   Today we witnessed a young man taking the habit to the Franciscan order of Mother Angelica and changing his name!  Such a beautiful sight!  It brought back to us when Hallel took her habit and changed her name about 6 years ago.  A beautiful option to consider.  I am praying that John may find something similar in his future path.  Jesus, we trust in you.  Bless-bless, Barb

Anniversary #37 in two days

 Working on an anniversary card...

Bill Bandzuch's photo.

Hurt and humble and sick about LIFE!

David stopped in to ooo and aaa over and her 7 kittens!  "They are so cute." he kept on saying over and over. He knows that grandma loves to get her pictures and although I don't exactly think they are cute at this stage - a day old - I do think they are special when the love in grandson David's blue eyes!
Just back from 1st Saturday confession and feeling touched by the healing hand of Jesus reaching out to me...
FatherMatt Pratscher's photo.
My friend Father Matt Pratscher by Detroit had this altar on his FB post today along with these words...
On this 1st Saturday, a few words to Mary: "Show thyself a Mother; may the Word Divine, born for us thy Infant, hear our prayers through thine. "  I so agree with this and felt this ongoing as we were sharing the rosary while we were in line and going into confession today.  Mary was taking us to her Son and as our Mother of Heaven and earth she was encouraging us to lay our burdens at his feet and finding healing.
A David sandwich with kittens on each side.  Paul mentioned that maybe they could be displayed at the miracle of birth barn at the fair next week... we could get names of those that want to have kittens/cats when they are big enough to go to new homes!  It was quite something to be around her as she was delivering them yesterday... she went from 3 to 5 to 6 and then finally 7 appeared!  Her first batch of kittens and she had a bunch!
The words "hurt and humble" describe how I am these days in dealing with my sinfulness and weakness and sickness.  A lot of my feeling sick comes from the horror I feel at the bringing to the light of day the darkness/sin/death/ugliness/killing of innocent LIFE from the womb to provide body parts...  How can this continue and how can blind eyes be turned to it?  And how can it be defended or can these tapes be called lies and deceit?  My stomach is sick at the condition of this world!  The sacrament of marriage trampled and for 45 years the taking of LIFE as a choice!  I am finding it hard to smile and find JOY in this world - it is so colored by darkness - the culture of death!
Mama Cat, , seems to be calm in the face of so much new life and new responsibility to nourish and care for that life!

Jesus, the Gospel today has always sickened me in much the same way.... the beheading of St John the Baptist!  I always am sad to see this is the Gospel when it shows up from time to time.  Why?  Because it is wrong, sinful and graphic in the taking of a LIFE which was a shining LIGHT in this world - leading us to die to sin and embrace The Cross and follow Christ!  How I long to find a place of Peace and JOY in the midst of all this sadness, hurt and humble when faced with my sinfulness!  How I have longed to come to you in the sacrament of reconciliation, and am so blessed to have this unconditional love and forgiveness always there - your nail scarred hands open to me reaching to hold me and comfort me.  Jesus, may your Truth be known and recognized in the darkness of sin and death.  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
David and his Godfather hard at work... they were watching , but she waited until the next day to have her kittens...  Bless-bless, Barbara Luke

Food for thought - St Alphonsus pray for us on this your feast day.  You left the world to serve those down and out..."Alphonsus left a promising law career to enter the priesthood.  He was drawn to work with thieves, prostitutes, and the destitute.  At his 'evening chapels' he led the laborers of Naples in prayer and study of the catechism."  See www.magnificat.com

Finally in July... St Ignatius Loyola!

The grandkids were keeping a watchful eye on our pregnant cat yesterday, and she waited for today to have them!  She just had #6 and the grandkids will find out tonight when I go over there to watch them.  They will be so excited!!!!

I am also excited to have this special feastday today - St Ignatius of Loyola!  He is so important in our conversion story as my parents were attending a Ignation retreat and when my dad heard the Holy Spirit directing him through scripture - Isaiah 55:1-2 - to join The Catholic Church along with his wife and 11 children!  http://familysoulstory.blogspot.com/p/the-amazing-story-of-13-becoming.html

Sweet corn for lunch straight from the field... the pealing crew is hard at work.

Mary had just been out working on some pictures for her photography project in 4H - the fair is just a week away.  Simon is working on his project involving a small engine he is taking apart.

It was a big day of doing more sweetcorn - 32 pints for my parents and Pat's mom.  It was almost an enjoyable job to only do 2 pails by myself.  I just realized that it would be better for them to have the smaller amounts, and with so much corn at perfect ripeness just down the road... it was an act of love to spend some time at this job today as our mother cat was having her...
7 kittens!!!!   3 orange and 4 grey.  One will be named Ignatius after his feast day today!  I am thinking that to help me with missing the 4 - Therese, Little Dave, Patrick, and Romeo could appear in the names of the 7.  Bless-bless, Barb  We will have to see how the boys and girls stack up...
