Ruth's 36th - my first ever giving birth day was 36 years ago!

The two beautiful cooks... Ruth and Maria made food for 16 for the last time on Saturday night.

My oldest is having one heck of a birthday!  It is the big moving day for our entire family today.  We just talked to Paul and he informed us that the bathroom walls are down and they are working on the wall for the new kitchen.  Maria should be arriving at her new home any time now... probably just about now!  WE are up watching Nancy's kids in the Cities so that they can get their house ready to sell.  After it is clean they will not be returning, but stay with family in the Cities until the weekend when Nancy, I and her 3 kids head to Kansas City!
Maria with her toddler, Romeo, and Ruth with her toddler, Luke... both with dill pickles.  What is it about little ones liking those sour pickles?  I would give the little ones pickles to chew and suck on... Ruth is famous for saying that "babies don't like pickles."  And I am famous for showing her that she is wrong.  Now we just laugh about it when Luke brings the pickle jar to her and begs for dill pickles throughout the day.

So appropriate today to have cute Ruth stories to share... today is her 36th birthday!
Sunday at Pat's mom for Eucharist... it was shared that it would have been Grandma Ida's 126th birthday, as she looked at us from the wall, today on January 4th.  When Pat's mom came to see us after having our first 36 years ago, she informed us that this would have been her mother's 90th birthday, Ida Louwagie, so 36 years later she is celebrating 126 today!  She looks a bit like Ruth Ida Rose.  We were thinking that we would name her Ruth Teresa, but that changed and the rest is history!
Ruth found an old fashioned wood floor under our bedroom carpet in her day of demolition which prepared for today.
Pat has been getting updates throughout the day... the bathroom walls are gone, the wood stove and bricks are gone... It will be a whole different home when we get home in the middle of the night.
Lord, please continue to bless our family and farm through all the crazy times we are facing in our near future.  As Pat says about Ruth; "She does not know 'I can't'... she does is all!"
The doors were off last night, but the cupboards went out today.
There is wood floor in the dining room too!
Ruth has plans to take out these walls so that the great stairway will be more visible.

Often I wonder where Ruth got her abilities to do construction and mechanics and wood working and building playhouses and tree houses and be a nurse and raise 5 wonderful kids!  She amazes me!  Her dad is right there in nothing she can't or won't do if she sets her mind to it!
This is her greatest work of art!  Her wonderful faith filled family on the farm!
It was a wonderful winterwonderland sight on the way thanks to a thick fog.

Dave's last visit to Nancy's house as they are getting it ready to move in Kansas City!
Their new piano is found by David and Berna!
Berna shows me the new window... She is moving and we have so many changes coming our way.

Jesus, I am yours and know that all this is according to your plan.  I feel some excitement and JOY knowing that you are in control of all these changes.  Jesus, bless Ruth with many more years to conquer all that comes her way.  Jesus, we trust in you.  Bless-bless, Barb

Life to the fullest means many things at once

My parting gift from Maria and family... sweet smiles in front of the beautiful tree in the gathering space.  Youngest is sick, so there were no smiles for grandma's gift from him.  Speaking of Gifts - today is the feast of the Epiphany when the 3 Kings visited young Jesus in his home in Bethlehem.  Having our Luke, who is a loving lively excited little 2 year old boy... we were smiling at the picture of a little Jesus coming up and hugging the legs of the kings when they entered their home, and telling them excitedly about the work his dad does with tools as a carpenter.
One of all, who shared this last week together for Christmas vacation.  Unfortunately there are some behind others like Pat and Rose...

Maria and Joe headed to move into their new home in the morning.  Pat and I have been listening to our home being dismantled all day as they will be taking down walls in the morning here.  There are some hard feelings at watching our home change.
Sharing communion with our family and grandma is always a gift!
The sights and sounds we returned to...
A crazy sight to behold.  I am glad we are heading up to help Nancy by watching her kids tomorrow... this is a hard sight for me to take in.
 Our bedroom!
Kitchen was here and will be in our bedroom on the other side of the house.

Lord. keep us strong and keeping our eyes on you in all the craziness of life over these next few months for our family.  Jesus, we trust in you.  Bless-bless, Barb

Let one contribute....to what lies ahead... forever in heaven we pray!

The two three year olds playing with light savers in the sun while we had a family day yesterday.  Today John and I are back at it finishing up our move to the upstairs of our house.  Our home is empty and ready for remodel on Monday!
Rose looking foxy and having fun.

We are starting to adjust to our new normal as our home will be remodeled for the next couple months in getting ready for us to trade houses.  Ruth and Paul will be here on the farm with their family and we will be moving 3 miles away to their building site and pasture.
Paul reading "Naughty David" to the delight of the 9 grandkids that have been over at Ruth's for the last week.
More seating with couches throughout the house... rather than moving our furniture twice - we added it to Ruth's home for now.

Today in the Gospel we are introduced to John the Baptist in John's Gospel... Make straight the way of the Lord... is what he preached to us!  How do we do this?  The Saint for today St Gregory had wrote in a very thought provoking way about this...  Let one contribute his riches, another his abject poverty; one his zeal, another his appreciation of the zeal of another; one a commendable deed, another a perceptive thought; one a timely remark, another eloquent silence; one unimpeachable instruction and a way of life to match; another an open and receptive ear;...
Another stories in the sun light...

Continuing with St Gregory's input on how we as a community of LOVE reach what lies ahead - hopefully heaven forever!
one virginity that is pure and severs all contact with the world; another a marriage that is devout and in no way divorced from God; one fasting that is not tainted by pride; another feast tempered by restraint; one unbroken prayer and spiritual hymns, another care of the poor;
The girls like my little desk that was moved over there with the move!
 Mary's crocheting desk..

Finally from St Gregory... all of us our purification, all of us our upliftment and a straining forward to what lies ahead.  All I yearn for that to be is with my Jesus, his Mother Mary the Mother of God, The Saints and Angels!

 The two Patricks!
 Girl stuff... crochet lessons!
Beautiful snow and sun setting - sitting by the window to capture the beauty of a Rose in the snow...
Patrick didn't want to pose, but finally a smile for grandma.
Our couch is now at Ruth's and great for big family gatherings with Maria and family here for this week of Christmas vacation!

Jesus, hear our prayer that we may die more and more to self so that you may live in us.  Hear our prayer that we may arrive in heaven forever with you.  May we work diligently at making the crooked ways straight with The Truth and the LIGHT!  May we contribute from our experience and smallness.  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
One of our big meals... so wonderfully special in the midst of all we are called upon to do together towards the end of all getting moved here and there.  Jesus, keep us safe and sane.  Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
Family movie night with the couch bed pulled out!
Some wonderful raspberry cordial that Joe's parents made from their raspberry crop!  So beautiful to look at and on the tongue!
John and I just had our first meal in our basement kitchen.  It felt kind of homey in a weird sort of way.

A special anniversary #12

Maria's vacation with family has been filled with lots of sick kids.  Today Romeo, her youngest, was feverish and sick with a cold.  She is the busy wife and mother of 4 - a lot has happened in the last 12 years!  This day - New Year's Day 2004 - after celebrating The Solemnity of Mary mass as a family... we all piled into the car and drove Maria up to join The Poor Clare sisters in Sauk Rapids, MN!  She stayed with them 5 months, and discerned that the Lord was not calling her to be a nun.
Uncle Paul reading "Naughty David" to the 9 grandkids, then they went out to play in the snow on a glorious bright winters day.
Maria and the 3 girls gathered around a crochet book and giving and getting some lessons.  We hugely admire the cloistered life and when in need of prayers we call upon them still.  It is wonderful to have Maria more in our lives, although the life does keep them on the move and far away from us.  The times we share are precious!
It is a gift to have some family time before they head off
on Sunday morning.  Bless-bless, Barb

A new year with Mary the Mohter of God

Therese and great-grandma the other night.  Just back from sharing Eucharist with Pat's mom after celebrating the Solemnity/Feast of Mary the Mother of God with both families and John!
All of us with Pat's mom the other night...
The grandkids watching their last movie in their grandparents' bedroom on the farm.  The bed and dresser are now gone, and we slept in one of the bedrooms upstairs last night.  Walls are coming out on Monday and this bedroom will become a kitchen!
Our bed has now moved over to Ruth and Paul's house.  We are going over to share a meal before they head off to their new place!  All of us are moving at the same time!
David taking down my Christmas tree on New Year's Eve... we are on the move with big changes to our house first.
The world is a beautiful white on this New Years Day 2016!
Sharing mass - the Solemnity (Pat's sister claimed that all her years in Catholic school she has never heard the term Solemnity.  "They called it the Feast of Mary.  Solemnity was too big a word to use with kids, I suppose.") "a formal, dignified rite or ceremony" is the meaning.
Army boys went back to visit the Nativity Scene which our kids and Pat grew up with in the front of Church!  David was busy counting the sheep!
Rose and Therese in the LIGHT!  How I loved to have John 1 for the Gospel yesterday!  You know me and my LIGHT/LOVE/LIFE through Jesus, His Bride The Church and The Cross...

Gospel Jn 1:1-18

"In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things came to be through him,
and without him nothing came to be.
What came to be through him was life,
and this life was the light of the human race;
the light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it.

A man named John was sent from God.
He came for testimony, to testify to the light,
so that all might believe through him.
He was not the light,
but came to testify to the light.
The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.

He was in the world,
and the world came to be through him,
but the world did not know him.
He came to what was his own,
but his own people did not accept him.

But to those who did accept him
he gave power to become children of God,
to those who believe in his name,
who were born not by natural generation
nor by human choice nor by a man’s decision
but of God.

And the Word became flesh
and made his dwelling among us,
and we saw his glory,
the glory as of the Father’s only-begotten Son,
full of grace and truth.

John testified to him and cried out, saying,
“This was he of whom I said,
‘The one who is coming after me ranks ahead of me
because he existed before me.’”
From his fullness we have all received,
grace in place of grace,
because while the law was given through Moses,
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God.
The only-begotten Son, God, who is at the Father’s side,
has revealed him."
Every last word is a beautiful song of Truth and Joy!

Now with Little Dave...  May we with Mary hold all we learn each day from The Truth and filled with His Grace may we go forward and give the Mercy we have been shown and die to self so that Jesus may live through us.

Patrick, too! The light is a good problem to have in my pictures... so bright and warm!
Maria's 4 in front of the stable of humble Jesus born to a virgin named Mary.  He was God and man and that means that it is no exaggeration to call her Mary the Mother of God!

"Abba, Father!"  Lord, I long to come to you with each new day and now with the New Year that is ahead of us.  May we make the hard changes needed to be more yours and to arrive in heaven forever with you... that is our heart's desire!  "The true LIGHT which enlightens everyone has come into the world."  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
