Motherhood is the best!

A full clothesline, kids and lilacs - a sure sign that a mother is embracing her call to be open to life and raise lights by caring for needs, and binding up wounds, and protecting life no matter the cost, and sharing faith with joy daily, and making food, washing clothes, keeping the house clean, keeping kids safe and nursing them when they are sick or hurt... if it sounds like a full time job - it is and then some - it is 24/7!
The 4 farmwives a few days ago at Ruth's.  Add farming to all that!  Ruth has added being a farmer along side her husband and dad and not merely a farmwife like I am.  Pat's mom was much the same with all the work she did like milking cows and being in charge of laying hens!  She also baked bread twice a week for a family of 12!!!  Work like we have never known!  We all have shared the joy and work of motherhood!  For me, it is the only thing I ever wanted to do full time and now with helping the daughters with their families gives me so much JOY... the ability to step back into motherhood!
Here is what I am so excited to be a part of this week!  The arrival of our 13th grandchild with Nancy having her little girl this week!  I will be heading down to KC in a few days as we gather to support and help and share in the excitement of a new life!

Daughter, Maria, enjoying a rare snuggle with her sleeping youngest, Romeo.  This fall he will be a big brother and grandma will come to where they are living with the to help out and welcome grandchild #14!  LIFE is an amazing gift we celebrate and with each new member our love only grows larger and fuller and richer and is not stretched thin.  It is the wonder of our LOVE for LIFE and raising LIGHTS!
Rose happened to find this Thanks Mom for LIFE button at great-grandma's this morning and put it on her dress.  How appropriate on this day that over the years I have sold roses for Mother's Day at all the masses.  These last couple years it has been taken over by others.  Awaking this morning and remembering how the kids would make us breakfast in bed for Mother's and Father's Days.  Ruth went and got the food and fixed it at great-grandma's for our Mother's Day feast - she even got the little smokies to go with the rolls and fruit!

Rose being the 4th child can certainly wear this button with pride and genuine truth as many would not consider having that many kids this day and age.  Sadly the lies of Satan that 2 is the perfect number of kids and therefore we can have more stuff or more time for yourself or there are too many populating the world - all lies!
Such a special weekend with John around to share meals, prayer, mass and taking Communion to his grandma this morning.  It made me realize that meals are so much more enjoyable when shared with someone and with John laughter is always involved!  Being here with me, helping me with jobs and getting my garden in... thanks so much Ruth and family, it makes me feel my motherhood is appreciated and honored!
"The Body of Christ, grandma."  "Amen"

Yes, I am thinking about my wonderful mom today, too!  She modeled for me a woman, who says "yes" to life in the midst of a Protestant world, which is so amazing and then her love for The Church - led there by the Mother Supreme - Mary the Mother of God!
Praying each morning with my Deacon dad the office and readings and lifting up the family!  True motherhood continues on for generations to come!
Our motherhood changes from moment to moment caring for our children, when they are in our home with us to caring for them with constant prayer and from time to time lending a hand, too!
I am now called to be the contemplative I had been discerning for myself - I was called to marriage, yet I now have a daughter, who is that contemplative and holds all of us and our needs up in prayer daily!  The Best!
Never too many mothers and so blessed to have Mary the Mother of God always with me!
Yes, my mother was amazing wonderwoman, too!

Jesus, we thank you for the gift of LIFE and those mothers that said "yes" to give without counting the cost.  May we honor them always.  May the world see through the examples of families that are open to life and raising lights... that true happiness and a small slice of heaven here on earth can be found in this way!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
Ruth with her bunch of farmkids and farmer husband - now stepping into the life called farming and allowing grandma to find more peace and contentment and quiet to be a contemplative praying grandma, who writes, takes care of chickens, writes and is obsessed with pictures.  Thank you, Ruth Ida Rose!  You do so much and then some!  Such a great mom, first and foremost, wife, farmer, fertility care specialist, nurse wound care specialist, gardener, construction and carpenter and builder and on and on and on!  You amaze me!
Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
Mary with Mother's Day roses for great-grandma, grandma, mom and aunt Joyce, who is here with Pat's mom!  We all celebrate Motherhood!
A Motherhood procession!
Being the 5th Luke has much truth in thanking mom for life!  Brown eyed Luke comes across the aisle to visit after Communion.  Feeling happy and at home at Church is such a good and healthy thing for kids!

"For those who may be feeling a little lonely on Mother's Day - we always have our Mother with us." from my friend, Lisa!
I have some pretty wonderful like-minded and the same heart for Our Lady and The Church!  How I love that!

So tired after a big day putting the garden in with family!

John made the mistake of asking me what I wanted for Mother's Day - "I want help planting my garden.  No stuff just help."  He was stuck good!  It started with sharing breakfast and some selfies thrown in here and there.  Lilacs and the Lourdes candle made it so special, and so wonderful to share a meal together - breakfast tastes so much more wonderful sharing it with someone and laughter!
Our Mother of Lourdes.. .how we share a great LOVE for her!
First things first - spending time in prayer sharing the Office with Lilly the dog and reminiciensing how 7 years ago they nursed each other back to health!

Helping mom put clothes on the line after we had done the chickens, then off to buy our tomato plants before putting two gardens in!
Rose and Luke helping with the watering of the tomato plants
Simon digging the holes...
Rose watering.
Time to work on grandma's garden - so many good helpers!  John had to go and help the farmers, so he managed to get out of most of it!  I am so tired that I am going to call this quits.  Happy Mother's day to all!  bless-bless, Barb
It sure feels good to have it in!

Beginning at the beginning..."Clap your hands with shout of JOY!" Psalm 47

Where do I begin?  At the Beginning of my life on the farm and now watching the 4th generation loving and embracing the Life we call farming.  This picture speaks a thousand words today of the miracle that happened for me yesterday on the most glorious of days!
The lilacs were perfect, the apple blossoms, which will be all blown away by this huge wind today, were glorious, the winds were light and the temps warm and the sun settling on heads and shoulders and knees as we sat out in the grass at Ruth's...  Is this for real?  I would ask myself as 4 generations shared an idyllic noontime on the farm!
It was a small slice of heaven in how everything fell into place from catching Pat with a minute to come and visit with us and watching him do a round of digging.
To grandkids and lilacs as we sat under the clothesline and watched Ruth put a load of clothes on the line - her 6th load for the day!
Mom and I both agreed that it was like stepping back in time to watch kids running back and forth through the wet clothes while mom puts them on the line.
Luke and Rose are two ways we can get grandma to smile these days!
Luke shows great-grandma how he likes to pat Roger - grandma said that she likes Roger better than Holly.
Rose demonstrates the climbing tree!
And poses on a perfect day!  Today is going to be mostly a photo share of the wonderful time we had bringing Pat's mom out to see Ruth's remodel of the farmhouse and enjoy a perfect day!
Luke, Rose with leaves, Roger, great-grandma with her hands full, and Rose filling every last inch of her clothesline!.  The joyful words of Psalm 47 today just fit with the happiness I hold in my heart, mind and soul for our time yesterday!
Entering the house to see the changes with great interest!
All the light and the view of the farm from the windows is impressive!
4 year old Rose is hungry and starts making lunch!
Ruth's command center and Luke with something on his mind and it is probably concerning tractors!
Rose shows Great-grandma one of the 4 orphan kittens they are feeding.
Kitten feeding time and a visit from Luke
How we love the 8 foot patio door!
Grandma in the house!  Pinch me... this must be a dream!
All you peoples, clap your hands,
shout to God with cries of gladness,
For the LORD, the Most High, the awesome,
is the great king over all the earth.
R. God is king of all the earth.  Psalm 47, and the words of my heart this day!
Sharing lunch with the view of the farm and the glorious day outside and inside!
Did I mention the Sun pouring in?  Rose and Carmel the kitten snuggling in the sun.  "Grandma he is purring!"  Sure enough... he must have felt the love and happiness in the air too!
Such softness speaks to me of how good and right this change has been.  My mother-in-law asks me if I miss being on the farm.  "No, this is right, and Ruth has made it her own in such a special and wise way."
Rita just back from giving a ride, Ruth got a call to give a ride to her dad, and so our time is over, but we got this special picture of the 4 farmwives together and gathered around the reason for our wonderful lives on the farm!  4 farmwives happy to have some time together to celebrate a most spectacular day filled with bean planting and family time!  Such a gift to all of us!
These words from the Gospel today are so true and each one pictured here has experienced this truth as farm women and mothers!
"you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.
When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived;
but when she has given birth to a child,
she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy
that a child has been born into the world."  John 16

Pat's mom had 10 children including my Patrick!  He also carried forth her love of the farm!  Thanks, mom for my life and as a result Ruth's life and now her kids are having the life she had, and for her to want that and foster it means she loved it, too!  My heart is full this day!

Jesus, time together sharing is by far more wonderful than stuff for Mother's day.  On our way back home after this amazing time together mom and I said that this was our Mother's day gift to each other and we both were wiping tears.  "This life is all because of you, mom!"  Jesus, we are filled to overflowing with all we have been given - most especially the gift of LIFE to protect and cherish at all costs!  Be with all mother' and help them to value and honor the life within their wombs from conception to natural death.  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
Riding with Pat at sunset behind Ruth and Paul's farm... sharing with great JOY the wonderful day I had with his mother!  Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
Literally driving off into the sunset and sharing the good life!
She loves the little ones and they love her!
Sunrise yesterday morning at 6:30a - a sure sign of a most special day!
A beautiful sight to behold!

My friend, Scott Hahn, have kindred spirits and LOVE of The Church!

"The Church which is his Body - the fullness of one who fills all things in every way." Ephesians 1:23

Surrounded by kids and kittens on a glorious spring day... great-grandma comes out to the farm on planting day.  The farmers are out planting the crop, the wives and kids are tilling the garden getting ready to plant the seeds.  Great-grandma didn't seem to impressed by the kittens, but she loves to see the kids, the apple blossoms, the lilacs, the broiler chicks, and just get out on such a perfect day!
Sweet little Luke brings a smile to great-grandma's face!

Spending the day with Pat's mom... we are making some fake plans to go out and pick up Rose from preschool at HRS and then go to Ruth's place and then go to where the guys are planting beans. Today is the first day of beans, as we wrapped up the corn yesterday night.

We are sharing that today is Ascension Thursday - 9 days until Pentecost... the first novena as the apostles await the Holy Spirit!  How we depend upon The Spirit to fill us with Christ and allow us to become his hands and feet!
An impromptu picnic and visit amongst the apple blossoms and lilacs with baby kitties and kids.  The best kind of fake plans!  We are off to get Rose soon and then out to Ruth's.  Jesus, thank you, for the glorious day filled with the winds of your Holy Spirit blowing through our lives and our world.  May we die to self, so that you may live in us.  Bless-bless, Barb
