John is 32 - This is how one loves- The Cross/"He can't heal if we don't have faith"

Love this of the two girls, Rose and Bernadette in Kansas City 2 years ago.  They continue to be wonderful cousin friends now as they are both 8 along with cousin, Patrick.  The groups of cousins are very special as they grow up together and share the bond of family sharing our Faith on the farm!

Sacred Heart in Shawnee summer of 2018 just a few weeks after John and Bobbi's wedding!

Sharing our Faith is the most important glue that binds us together!  Reading the Gospel together last night before bed and first thing this morning after morning prayer this morning... Pat's comment to Jesus being rejected by those from his town and how He was disappointed in their lack of Faith, which did not allow him to heal and save and forgive..."Jesus cannot heal if we don't have faith."

And they took offense at him.
Jesus said to them,
“A prophet is not without honor except in his native place
and among his own kin and in his own house.”
So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there,
apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on them.
He was amazed at their lack of faith.  Mark 6

John this morning with his wonderful gift, Baby Birdie Barbara, to care for.    Today is his 32nd birthday and this mom is pretty emotional about this day!  The giving birth day to my last living child, yet there were 3 to follow that are now in heaven praying for me and our family and their big brother, John!

The two boys that I lost after John were in my womb each 5 months and I delivered them after discovering that they had died at my 5 month appointment.  So heartbreaking for me!  Today I recalled them... William would have been about 13 months younger than John, so almost 31, and Robert would have been 29.  Then I lost Mary at 14 weeks when I was 42 and she was my last pregnancy.

Pat and I wanted a large family, but the Lord thought that 5 was good for living this life and 7 praying for us in heaven!

John's other greatest gift - Jude Dale!  He is close to 2 in a couple months!
6 years ago with Our Lady and St Francis!  John fell head over heels in love with Mary at Lourdes in the midst of his cancer journey!  His half-hearted prayer for faith was answered by facing brain cancer!

His story continues now with wife and 2 beautiful children!  John's message of finding Faith and healing taught many that the power of prayer is REAL!  "I prayed for John, and now he is healed?"  Yes!!!  Jesus is alive and well and answers our prayers and heals!

Our February calendar from sweet Bobbi for Christmas!  LOVE!  I took all of these on the event of their engagements!
The birthday boy with his loving and faith-filled wife, Bobbi!  Her story amazes all in how she waited with faith and much prayer for John to navigate brain cancer, seminary, college, ups and downs - until they saw her at mass and his dad encouraged him to ask her out for pie and catch up with his classmate - all 13 years from Kindergarten to 12th grade!

After being classmates for all 13 years for them to come together 10 years after graduating is kind of special.  She shared to the 300 family and friends gathered at the reception in her sweet humble way about how John Verly popped into her head and heart when they were seniors in HS as her future husband.  Time and time again the same answer came to her through prayer and roses from St Therese and opening her eyes to see him right in front of her at WYD in Australia... When we consider what John experienced over those 10 years... brain cancer, seminary, girl friends, ups and downs and how disheartening it probably was and how powerful her prayers were for him!!!!  Amazing!!!   And how patient and trusting and prayerful and waiting and praying for John, this sweet girl was!

The picture on my family wall of them around Christmas time.
A good radish year indeed...
A canning day - those were big joyful family days and continue to be to this day as we can for our 6 families!  No longer for my parents, but now we take food to both Little Sisters and Little Brothers down the hill in KC!
I took pictures of pictures from the collage that is in my hallway... John on the farm
John with his sisters at Maria's wedding June 2, 2007... 11 years later that is now John and Bobbi's wedding day too - June 2,2018!  An answer to his prayers about is vocation, and now praying that he can discover the path Jesus has for him as a married man with family.
With Fr Craig in France for Hallel's taking of her habit - August 2009!
Susan, Nancy and John on the round bales - 25+ years ago...
"This is how one loves!"  A sign left beside the crucifix in John's room when his sister, Maria, left to discern a call with the Poor Clares on January 1st, 2004.  So powerful then and now!  Truly we are called to share in The Most Cherished Cross in our lives and journey!

The picture is of John with Fr Craig shortly after they had gone through the healing waters of Lourdes. "I asked them to pour water over my head because that is where I need the healing."  John shared.  His love for Mother Mary was born there and continues to this day.  "Mom, there is a better mom than you."  "Yes. John, I totally agree!"

John on the Cross called brain cancer and being helped to carry it by his sisters, Hallel and Nancy in Lourdes in 2009!  "This is how one loves."

Deep in prayer for another battling cancer - Nancy's sister-in-law, Amy!  She met with Mayo doctors yesterday and a plan was worked on... we continue to pray!
Under a special cross that Nancy made years ago from popsicle sticks!  Under the Cross... it looks like a sword and the grandkids use it for that, too!  The weapon we are to use in our lives of Faith - the Cross!

Today in the first reading from Hebrews - St Paul speaks about the hardships that come to us...

So strengthen your drooping hands and your weak knees.
Make straight paths for your feet,
that what is lame may not be dislocated but healed...Hebrews 12

How?  By turning to Him and giving Him the control and Trusting in Him.  Prayer is how we stay close to our Lord in these difficult times!

Mom and dad now praying more perfectly!  Dad prayed for Amy while he lived here with me for those 6 months!  Our work was prayer!
Today dad found great uplifting words from St Paul in I Thes!
"never cease praying"
Good old Colossians - I gained so much respect for Colossians in our prayer together.  It is used a lot and rightfully so in the Office of Morning prayer and evening prayer!

Dad's Brother Victor-Antione!  I love how we share writing each day and how he allows me to share in the life of a monk.  Much as dad allowed me to join him in his Deaconate religious life here in our farm monastery!  I am beginning to long for nice weather and sitting on the porch watching the crops grow around me and the white trucks that go by on Hwy 59 two miles away.  I think a few tears will be mixed with those prayers.

Jesus, how I love you and am so grateful for all the ways you surround me with all that you have touched with your healing and your unconditional LOVE and forgiveness.  May we return that to all those around us - most especially those the closest to us in our domestic Church/family!  We love to share our Faith/Family/Farm and embrace our Most Cherished Cross and find LIFE/LOVE/LIGHT!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah

Wishing you JOY for the next year, dear John!  Jesus, has truly touched your life in a very powerful way!  Share his LIGHT without fail!  Bless-bless, Barbara/mom

For we do not preach ourselves,
but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves
as your servants for Jesus' sake.

Invoked for the healing of throat diseases, St. Blaise wrote:

“Father of mercy and God of all consolation,
graciously look upon me and impart to me the
blessing which flows from this Holy Sacrament [the Eucharist].  Overshadow me with Your loving kindness,
and let this divine Mystery bear fruit in me."

At first he was a doctor who … Attended human life … And then he ministered to souls … In spiritual strife … A bishop in Armenia … St. Blaise acquired fame … By many healings he performed … In God’s most holy name … Especially the little child  … Who nearly choked to death … And through St Blaise’s prayers returned  … To free and normal breath … And that is why one day each year … His saintliness we note … And ask his prayers to guard us from … Diseases of the throat … And even more important to … St Blaise’s great renown … Is all the torture he endured … To earn his martyr’s crown.

Protect our throats, St Blaise, from all … Those sicknesses today … And from the utterance of words … That we should never say … Lend wisdom to our voice, St Blaise … And pray that we may be … Forever steadfast in our faith … For God eternally.

St Blaise, pray for us!
