St Josephine Bakhita shows us how we can be slaves that are set "free with the freedom of the Saints"/Recognizing the healer

Our youngest grandchild is our sweet baby Birdie, who will be 9 months tomorrow.  She found our wooden hosts and seemed to know how to hold them up and place them in the hands as we said; "The Body of Christ."  Attending mass with her parents since her birth makes is all familiar and special and part of our life each week.
The half time show as Pat and Jude share the moment.  It was a warm family gathering last evening even though it is one of the coldest days of the year.
13 months apart and such wonderful kids to share the evening with!
Guaranteed to be in each other's lives for the duration as they are brother and sister.

Today is the feast of St Josephine Bakhita, who is the patron saint of our granddaughter, Josephine Bandzuch.  It was special to read about her written by both StJPII and Pope Benedict XVI today in the   Magnificat.

Those punishments were daily whipping till she bled!  Such a horrific disrespect for her life and the her life in the hands of such evil and vile people!  What JOY when she could meet Jesus and enter religious life!  How she can show us, who turn to those things in our lives that enslave us, to be free! The Saints are true examples of being freed from slavery to love and serve the Lord Jesus without counting the cost!
Now Pope Benedict speaks to the Gospel today and how Josephine brings this Truth to life - "Recognizing the healer"

After making the crossing to the other side of the sea,
Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret
and tied up there.
As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.
They scurried about the surrounding country
and began to bring in the sick on mats
to wherever they heard he was.
Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak;
and as many as touched it were healed.  Mark 6 - the Gospel for mass today in The Church all around the world!
I can only imagine how deep and profound the LOVE she found in Christ was after the suffering she did as a misused slave for all those years!  It is true in our own lives that the suffering we endure makes the joy that much more!  The Cross deepens our LIFE/LOVE/LIGHT we find in embracing it!

It is also true that you long to share this Truth of LOVE above all loves with everyone!  I see this in John and his burning to share with all by prayer and word - how he was healed by unconditional love and forgiveness and healed of cancer and became the new John.
John's story continues to this day!

After having 4 girls, who were all thumb suckers - this is a very familiar little girl in many ways to us!

Dad and St Bonaventure today... how we love Jesus in The Word each day!
On this frigid winter's day there is nothing more soothing and warming and comforting than a bowl of soup!  LOVE this from dad's man, Brother Victor, today, who wrote a couple cook books and one just on soup!  It makes me smile to know that my nun, Little Sister Hallel, is a soup lover.  I have sent her packages of soup mix that you only need to add water and she can do that in France or Kansas City!
When we took our jars of canning to KC a few weeks back - they all rejoice when they receive our tomato soup!

Joy helping to make soup in August.
Filled all our canners!
Dad loved our soup!  He had a bowl every day of his last weeks of life here on the farm!
Tomato soup and applesauce were a hit with him!
The canning team - we canned here at my home as I was needed with my dad throughout the day!
The pose with all the jars of soup!  We love our soup and we make it for 7 families!

Dear Lord, may we find that "freedom of the saints" with the help of St Josephine from heaven.  As we leave behind the slavery we have to many vices and sins.  May we die to self so that the Holy Spirit may live and work in our midst!  Yes, the saints are at work in this world, and we need to ask them to intercede and look to them as they help us on our journey.  Thank you, St Blaise for your protection and miracle.  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
Happy Feast Day
Saint Josephine Bakhita
1869-1947
Feast Day: February 8
Patronage: Sudan
Saint Josephine grew up in a happy and prosperous family in Darfur, Sudan. At 9, she was kidnapped and bought and sold numerous times into slavery. Some of her owners were fair, others cruel, beating her severely. In 1883, Josephine was sold to the Italian Vice Consul and brought to Italy, where she was given to another family to serve as a nanny. Thru the guidance of the Canossian Sisters of Venice, she learned about God and entered the Church. The Sacraments were administered by Cardinal Patriarch of Venice, Pope St. Pius X. In 1896, She became a sister of the Canossian Daughters of Charity, assisting her community and teaching others about God. She forgave and even thanked her kidnappers because it was through them she came to know God. The people of Sochi regarded her as their protector during WWII.

Danielle Rose has it all!!
