The Pat and Barb Verly family and their 5 children, in laws and grandkids along with many prayer warriors have been drawn together by John's cancer... sharing daily for 8 months started this blog- Family Soul Story - Our faith, family, farm and now our cancer journey called HEALING have colored and deepened our world. WE continue to share and depend on the support of our prayer warrior community, that has lowered us into the Lord's presence for His healing!
Daughter #3 is 40! "We are having a sweet day!" Little Sister time!/"he has blessed your children..." Hallel Psalm 147- +JMJ+ St Maximilian
Happy 40th Birthday, Maria Theresa Clare! We love you, Mouser (her nickname since she was little and getting into everything)!
Maria shared this from last night, when I asked if she were going to see her Little Sister Hallel today on her 40th birthday. "We were there last night. We shared Evening Prayer, Adoration, and supper." All those candles really accentuate that she has reached the milestone of 40 years! 2 year old Maggie looks a bit worried about all that fire.
I am sure that there was music and a dessert parade all around the table in the refectory. We have come to know that dessert will be very festive and joyful! Maria also shared that today is a "sweet sugar day" in celebration of her birthday. The family has given up any sugar and carefully read the ingredients to be sure that there is no sugar. "This morning I had a coffee with hot chocolate, and we had pound cake for breakfast." A celebration for sure!
Maria and her #7 child, and youngest, Magdalene Rose! They share the wonderful curly hair!
A picture from last night! The Sisters were out begging on mission in a huge rain storm, and a man gave them painting drop clothes to make rain coats with. I wasn't sure if this was a skit that would be highly entertaining. Maybe there was a skit... They love to have fun and there is a message connected with their skits usually with music and singing.
Singing Happy Birthday - it looks like hubby, Major Joseph is taking the picture. It makes my heart very happy to see my two girls sharing family time together.
I have so many prayers and hopes that they will do this often over this next year of only living 40 minutes apart in Kansas. Such a special happening after years of living on one coast or another. For Hallel, who has been living in Europe over the last 15 years since she entered in 2008 and went to France!
This was so amazing! Shortly after Maria and Major Joseph with their 7 children moved on base at Fort Leavenworth, KS, Pat and I went down to visit them in their new home. We picked up Hallel and brought her over for the day at Maria's home! What a special time of sharing together - true sharing of one with the other.
Later in the afternoon all the American living Little Sisters came to share The School of the Word and supper with us. They were so surprised to see 6 year old Evangeline Mary in her habit! Maria had sewn it for Therese when she was 5 and now Evie will fit into it! Evie said often - "I want to be a nun!" Too cute and special! How I pray that all of my grandchildren will consider this amazing option for them. I pray that they will ask the Lord to show them the plan he has for each of them.
I was pleased to see that the Psalm from mass today - Psalm 147 is an Hallel Psalm! Hallel means giving God all the praise as it is the first part of Hallelujah. The last 5 Psalms - 145- 150 are Hallel Psalms of total Praise of God!
R. (12a) Praise the Lord, Jerusalem. Glorify the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion. For he has strengthened the bars of your gates; he has blessed your children within you. R. Praise the Lord, Jerusalem. He has granted peace in your borders; with the best of wheat he fills you. He sends forth his command to the earth; swiftly runs his word! R. Praise the Lord, Jerusalem. Psalm 147
Truly I give God all the praise as I feel that he has truly blessed our children within our Domestic Church/Family! Even John, who had the battle of his life against brain cancer 14 years ago, and is now the new John with disabilities from all that he endured to survive. He has still been blessed with a loving wife and now 3 wonderful children! His newest baby, Lucy, is our 23rd grandchild!
The story continues now with wife and children! His Spirit Juice video shares his story!
Lord and Lady we are blessed to have these 5 here sharing our LIFE on earth together with the other 7 praying for us from heaven. Our greatest JOY is sharing our Faith as a family and also oru life on the farm! Faith/Family/Farm! We place each one in your hands and trust. May I die to self as I drag My Most Cherished Cross down the narrow path with heaven forever as my goal. Jesus we trust in you. Bless-bless, Barbara and the 33 plus many Little Brothers and Little Sisters.
St Maximilian Kolbe today! "Greater love has no man than this. That a man lay down his life for his friends." Fr Max took the place of a man in the concentration camps, who was being put in a starvation bunker and gave up his life to save him.
The Crown of Martyrdom and purity - both were offered to him and he took both from Our Lady!
Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord,
I lift up my soul. - Psalm 86:4
"You come to me and unite Yourself
intimately to me
under the form ofnourishment.
Your Blood now runs in mine,
Your Soul, Incarnate God,
compenetrates mine,
giving courage and support.
What miracles!
Who would have ever imagined such!"
St Maximilian Kolbe
Poland ~1894-1941
Priest, Martyr
Founder: Militia of Immaculata Patron: drug addicts, imprisoned people, journalists, Pro-life movement
Feast Day - August 14
“When the conquest for the Immaculate of the whole world
and of every single soul now living or to live until the end
of the world, and through Her for the Most Sacred Heart
of Jesus is completed, ... then souls will love the Sacred Heart
as they have never as yet loved Him, because like Her
they will have been immersed as never before in the
mystery of love: the Cross, the Eucharist. Through Her thelove of God will inflame the world,
will set it on fire, and will effect the ‘assumption’
of souls,... the divinizationof the entire world.”
St. Maximilian Kolbe _________________________ "A single act of love makes the soul return to life."
St. Maximilian Kolbe __________________________ "But grace, for ourselves and for others, is obtained
by humble prayer, by mortification, and by fidelity
I don’t know what’s going to become of you!” How many parents have said that? Maximilian Mary Kolbe’s reaction was, “I prayed very hard to Our Lady to tell me what would happen to me. She appeared, holding in her hands two crowns, one white, one red. She asked if I would like to have them—one was for purity, the other for martyrdom. I said, ‘I choose both.’ She smiled and disappeared.” After that he was not the same.
He entered the minor seminary of the Conventual Franciscans in Lvív (then Poland, now Ukraine), near his birthplace, and at 16 became a novice. Though he later achieved doctorates in philosophy and theology, he was deeply interested in science, even drawing plans for rocket ships.
Ordained at 24, he saw religious indifference as the deadliest poison of the day. His mission was to combat it. He had already founded the Militia of the Immaculata, whose aim was to fight evil with the witness of the good life, prayer, work and suffering. He dreamed of and then founded Knight of the Immaculata, a religious magazine under Mary’s protection to preach the Good News to all nations. For the work of publication he established a “City of the Immaculata”—Niepokalanow—which housed 700 of his Franciscan brothers. He later founded one in Nagasaki, Japan. Both the Militia and the magazine ultimately reached the one-million mark in members andsubscribers. His love of God was daily filtered through devotion to Mary.
In 1939 the Nazi panzers overran Poland with deadly speed. Niepokalanow was severely bombed. Kolbe and his friars were arrested, then released in less than three months, on the feast of the Immaculate Conception.
In 1941 he was arrested again. The Nazis’ purpose was to liquidate the select ones, the leaders. The end came quickly, in Auschwitz three months later, after terrible beatings and humiliations.A prisoner had escaped. The commandant announced that 10 men would die. He relished walking along the ranks. “This one. That one.” As they were being marched away to the starvation bunkers, Number 16670 dared to step from the line. “I would like to take that man’s place. He has a wife and children.” “Who are you?” “A priest.” No name, no mention of fame. Silence.
The commandant, dumbfounded, perhaps with a fleeting thought of history, kicked Sergeant Francis Gajowniczek out of line and ordered Father Kolbe to go with the nine. In the “block of death” they were ordered to strip naked and the slow starvation began indarkness. But there was no screaming—the prisoners sang. By the eve of the Assumption four were left alive. The jailer came to finish Kolbe off as he sat in a corner praying. He lifted his fleshless arm to receive the bite of the hypodermic needle. It was filled with carbolic acid. They burned his body with all the others. He was beatified in 1971 and canonized in 1982.
