Dragging me along... Huge canning day to begin our week of the Fair/Jesus walked 2 miles on the sea! - +JMJ+

Pat getting a kiss from 2 year old Maggie, who is now a huge Bumpa fan!

Yes, this guy drove all the way to Fort Leavenworth, KS this weekend to pick up the 3 oldest grandkids for some time on the farm, canning tomatoes and sharing the County Fair with their farm cousins.  Someone asked if we ever show down, and thinking about this I have to say "He drags me along."  I would never have done all this, but he is one determined guy and he is right in the long run.
Now 6 year old Evangeline joins in the kissing of their wonderful grandpa!  They will be coming tomorrow with their mom and 2 other siblings in time for the steak fry at the Fairgrounds.  They will watch the beef, chicken and goat shows on Thursday and then they will all return to Kansas with their mom.

So fun to realize that how we look at each other - The Most Cherished Cross - truly happens as Pat drags me along.  A good friends' mother was famous for saying that if you are too weak to carry your cross "drag it."  So knowing my weak state of everything I always say that I am dragging Pat - my Most Cherished Cross and now I see that truly he drags me!

2 pails of tomatoes - one from Ruth's garden and one from mine.  Good old me wanted to keep it simple with just some quick stewed, but 15 year old Therese said they came to work, so it became a day long job of Salsa!  Beginning with going out to the field to pick the corn, and using fresh corn in our job.  I now have 2 pails to freeze today as they got a bit carried away.
Joy and Tom came to share the craziness with us.  It was pre-entry day for the 4Hers so the farm was a busy beehive of activity getting things done last minute.
Tom and Patrick cutting huge onions for the salsa.
David cutting tomatoes.
Gloves to cut the jalapeƱos with otherwise my fingers have burned for a day.
Ruth and I always laugh about how we fill this 40 quart pan to the brim year after year!  We bought it probably 30 years ago at a auction they had of some of the equipment from the Catholic School kitchen.  There would have been no idea of how much we use this year after year.
Therese joins in the spicy work.
Pat this morning - "We did all these jars!"  60 quarts of Salsa!
Now with Maria's oldest and such an amazing young lady - 15 year old Therese.
Now with 13 year old David - we call him Little Dave in our domestic Church/family as we have 2 grandsons named David!  Ruth's 15 year old Big Dave and Maria's 13 year old little Dave.

We had so much that we had to use the new "canning pails" we got from Runnings last year in order to mix in the beans and all.  Lots of mixing kept the boys stirring their pots.
Adding the black beans to the 3 containers...
Gathered around to taste test the hard work.
Thumbs up!  "Tastes really good, grandma!"
Heading out the door for the County Fair with grandpa - they gifted me with this cutey.  Therese is in charge of 1 1/2 year old Tom and he seems just fine with it!
Sharing evening prayer together last night before bed.  We read the Gospel from Matthew 14 about Jesus walking on the sea to the boat with the disciples in it.  After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.
When it was evening he was there alone.
Meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore,
was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it.
During the fourth watch of the night,
he came toward them, walking on the sea.
When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified.
"It is a ghost," they said, and they cried out in fear.
At once Jesus spoke to them, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid."
Peter said to him in reply,
"Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water."
He said, "Come."
Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.
But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened;
and, beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!"
Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him,
and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"
After they got into the boat, the wind died down.
Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying,
"Truly, you are the Son of God."  Matthew 14

Yesterday morning the kids had run before breakfast for 2-3 miles and so when we read the Gospel that really jumped out to them - "He walked on the water of the sea a couple miles!"  It truly makes this miracle much closer to real life for these 3 disciplined military kids!  The Gospel came to life for them in a very personal way.

Corn for the salsa and now more to freeze for winter.  It is very good this year even with the drought.  We are grateful for 3/4th of a inch of rain while we were away in KCK.  It is still a drought year, and we are constantly praying for rain to come.  Hear our prayer, O Lord, for bountiful rains!
A memory from 8 years ago with Hallel and Dominic in Lumen Christi/Light of Christ Monastery in Kansas City, KS.  Today is their Feast Day- Hallel's order, The Community of the Lamb is Dominican, and of course, Dominic Patrick is named after him.

9 year old Dominic this year celebrating his feast day LARGE!
We attended St Benedict Catholic Church in Kansas on Sunday!  No matter where we go to mass it is universal all around the world!
A special sight to behold - the Pieta.
The military family finding a home to worship.  My prayers is that they will have lots of time with Hallel and our Community of the Lamb!
8 years ago Pat's mom and sister, Ida, came to the Fair.
She went to watch Mary show her pigs.  This year we are not showing pigs, but beef, chickens, and goats.  Mary has become a goat farmer now.
St Therese is amazing and patron of our Therese, who is such a kind and hard working girl.
Corn is calling to me... I just had a flood of kids with grandpa and they ate some for me.  Thanks!

Our Lady gave the rosary prayer to St Dominic!  It is my form or prayer without ceasing throughout my day!
Yes!

Nancy visiting my parents in their home in St Croix Falls 4 years ago.  She had just moved to Delano from Kansas where they lived for 3 years.
Josephine's Baptism in Kansas - she just turned 7.
LOVE this!  Jesus, may I die to self so that I may serve without counting the cost.  May I drag my Most Cherished Cross down the narrow path with heaven forever as my goal.  Jesus, we trust in you.  Bless-bless, Barbara and the 34 plus many little Brothers and little Sisters.
The heavens praise your wonders, O LORD,
your faithfulness too, in the
assembly of the holy ones. - Psalm 9:10

The Miracle of Saint Dominic

"During the ceremony of profession of the nuns of St Sixtus, there was a great excitement and a call for the saint to come out, since the nephew of one of the bishops who was acting with him in this case had just been thrown from his horse and was lying dead in the square outside. ...The body of the young man was brought in, badly mangled from the accident, and laid at the feet of the saint.  Dominic ordered them immediately to remove the body to another room.

Once more life came back at his request; this time after he had offered the Holy Sacrifice.  Bystanders testified that during the Mass they had seen him raised above the ground.  There were hundreds of witnesses to the miraculous answer when he spoke to the dead youth and commanded:  "Young man, I say to thee arise."  The youth rose up joyful and with no sign of injury and was restored to his family.  This miracle was instrumental in bringing into the (Dominican) Order two of its most famous sons; they were the brothers, Hyacinth and Ceslaus, and were later to win great renown as the apostles of the North."

"St Dominic responded when ... He heard his Master call ... And truly lived a pious  life ... With charity to all ... The holiest of friars who ... Were living in his time ... He fought against the ravages ... Of heresy and crime ... He founded the Dominicans ... And taught them prayer and fasting ... And that humility which leads ... To glory everlasting ... One day when he was rapt in prayer ... And dwelt on God’s commands ... Our Lady came to him and placed ... The Rosary in his hands ... And so today each bead we say ... For all the poor and sick ... Should be in loving memory ... Of good St Dominic. - From Poem Portraits of the Saints, James J Metcalfe (1956)

St Dominic, pray for us!

Dominican Sisters singing Salve Regina as we hear Hallel and her Community sing it like the angels in heaven.  Last night Therese and David sang "Salve Regina" for us after night prayers.  It was so gloriously beautiful!  Like being in heaven!  I am sure that the Holy Queen was smiling down!
