I helped a friend and took the first hour of Friday for Adoration. It was the first hour since Rita passed on Sunday to pray with Jesus in the Monstrance. Tears and deep prayers with my Lord and Lady.
Shannon sent this picture of a prayer card that Rita had in her purse from her mother's passing in 1962 when Rita was 8 years old. In her purse for 62 years!
Shannon read this beautiful prayer as she ended a most amazing Eulogy as we then began the mass of burial. "Jesus and his Blessed Mother have woven for her a crown of everlasting glory." Amen
Today is the beautiful Feast of The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of The Church...We turn to her especially when we experience the Cross, knowing that she is "standing by." Jesus establishes a relationship between his holy Mother and all who are united to him, that is, the Church. We too behold our Mother, for she is the Mother of all who live the new life of grace.
Gospel Jn 19:25-34
Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother
and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,
and Mary of Magdala.
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved,
he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.”
Then he said to the disciple,
“Behold, your mother.”
And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
Yes! She brings peace, love and JOY into our homes!
Birdie Barbara at Rita's wake - she has an old fashioned name and is my namesake!
The line wrapped around the church for the entire time. She left us so quickly and unexpectedly.
John's 3 kids and some of the cousins of Pat and Ed.
As you enter to sign in.
Josephine and Evangeline are 6 months apart... 8 and 7
Paying our last respects before the mass of Christian Burial
Big brother Augustine is loving towards his little sister, Regina Maria - Queen Mary.
Two grandsons - David Librande and David Lanoue serving at the mass for Rita on Saturday morning
Rita Verly Funeral - Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church (youtube.com)
Water wings for these two - they are 6 months apart and it is fun to see them getting to know each other and enjoy time together. Tom is also in their group along with little Lucy and older Birdie.
The cows up by the house eating the grass along the path to the pasture at sunset.
Handsome young men dressed for mass yesterday morning. David is 14 and Gus will be 13 next week. Playing the war games from the military family. David makes games too.
Nancy's 6 before going to 8a mass yesterday. Pat was out in the field, but we made it to Mary's Baccalaureate Mass at 6p. It rained just 2 hours before we would have had all the beans/crop in.
Military family minus Major Joseph here and before they got to mass - Pentecost Sunday and the end of the Easter Season. Now on to Ordinary time!
Bobbi with her Lucy Marie dressed in red for Pentecost - Come Holy Spirit! With 3 year old Maggie and 2 1/2 year old Gina with the green pastures behind.
These girls will be cousin friends while they grow up in our big wonderful farm family! Our motto we live by - Open to LIFE and raising LIGHTS!
Little friends off to play in Ruth's beautiful play house that she built about 10 years ago together. So much fun on the farm! The cousins were sad to leave. Until we see you again. There is a First Communion in Aberdeen, SD - Evangeline Mary!
Maria driving the 7 hours back to Kansas. In a couple weeks they will be moving to Fort Riley, KS adding about 2 hours to the trip. We still foresee spending time with our 3 girls in Kansas as often as possible - Maria and Little Sister Hallel, who will be returning to Kansas City in the beginning of June. She and her Community of the Lamb have been praying for Rita and family.
Shannon over to get some "kitten therapy". She has always been a cat lover!
That is a pile of sleepy kittens! Now with Maggie, too! Looks like Tom is surrounded by girls! Two older and two younger in the cousins.
"These are my kittens!" says Tom and so they are, but he did share since there were too many for him to hold all at once.
The 3 boys in 6 weeks that went to France in their mother's wombs for Hallel's final vows in 2018 are all now 5 years old, and Birdie is 4. They all stopped eating their yummy brunch breakfast, looked at grandma, and said "cheese" for my picture! MY JOY!!!
All of the kittens survived the weekend! Gina wearing a sweet dress her dad got in China while he traveled for work with Cargil some years back. Sweetness!
See the wind blow the 2 girls in pink and blue!
Wonderful 16 year old Therese with a cutie kitty! She held baby Lucy in her arms sleeping through the entire funeral mass! She is so wonderful with little ones. As Ruth likes to say - "Maria would have a new baby and come home, handing it to Therese - "Look I had another baby for you." "Thanks, mom!" and other than feeding she would change most of the diapers, dress and bath the baby more than her mom. What a saintly loving of life girl she is!
The light fixture over the sink - looks like a halo on her head and many times I think there should be! So many prayers for our older grandchildren that are making their Faith their own! That they will love Jesus, Mary and The True Church for their lives as they ask the Lord to show them the path he has for each of them. I am reminded that embracing The Truth when all 13 of us came into The Church 53 years ago have given me total JOY with each new day! A big part of that is Mary the Mother of The Church with me each day in the rosary and like the beautiful Feast day today! Each day is filled with the JOY of Jesus in Word and Body and Blood!
together with some women,
and Mary the mother of Jesus, Acts 1 is the first reading today and reminds us that Mary receives The Holy Spirit with the Disciples in the Upper Room!
Sister Ida has some beautiful words for us!
Today we return to wonderful Ordinary Time... Dad's well worn Prayer of The Church after being a Permanent Deacon for 44 years
Love this from dad today from Psalm 84... dad left me many special sharings in his prayer books. Thanks Dad! I am very aware that this was the window of my dad living with me 4 years ago - on hospice in my Farm Monastery for the last 6 months of his life!
Pope Benedict XVI daily meditations from my mom for today! All about the Eucharist which comes to us from Jesus through our priests - "ordination" Priesthood!
Lily of the valley!
Reminded today from St Mother Teresa of Calcutta that I need to keep the JOY we receive from Jesus in his Body and Word! "Be careful not to lose your joy after receiving 'the truth.'"
Mary hold us close to your Immaculate Heart. Bless-bless, Barbara and all
