They graced the Advent wreath as hubby read the devotions last evening. Advent time of prayer together has been an important part of our family/domestic Church since the kids were little here at home. We would gather around the Advent wreath and sing, pray a decade of the rosary, read The Word of God. How we love to share the JOY, HOPE, LOVE and PEACE of Advent leading up to Christmas.
Pat is reading from The Word Among us about the Feast that Isaiah is describing and how we are able to receive that each day at the Eucharist! It has been extra wonderful to be sharing daily mass with hubby now that field work is done. Thank you, Lord!
Saint Barbara, also known as the Great Martyr Barbara, was an early Christian Greek martyr born mid-third century in Heliopolis, Phoenicia.
Barbara was the daughter to a rich pagan named Dioscorus. After the death of Barbara's mother, Dioscorus dedicated his life to his only daughter.
Barbara was known for being extremely beautiful. As a way of "protecting" her, Dioscorus shielded her from the world by locker her high up within a tower. He allowed only her pagan teachers to see her.
Barbara spent her days gazing upon the hills and admiring all of God's creations. She often pondered about the "First Cause and Creator of so harmonious and splendid a world." She soon realized the idols her father and teachers worshiped were not of God's creation.
Barbara secretly became a Christian and dedicated her life to knowing the true God and making Him known to others. She offered herself completely to the Lord, choosing a life of consecrated virginity.
As Barbara grew older, her father, Dioscorus began presenting men to her for marriage. She refused them all and warned her father that his persistence could forever damage their relationship.
Dioscorus allowed for Barbara to leave her tower, hoping some freedom would change her attitude. Barbara used this opportunity to meet other Christians. They taught her about the Lord Jesus, the Holy Trinity and the Church. A priest from Alexandria, disguised as a merchant, baptized Barbara into Christ and His Church.
Finally, Barbara was condemned to death by beheading by her father. Her martyrdom took place on December 4th.
Praying during Advent is a special time for us to share. No doubt our children's families also are praying during Advent. Nancy has developed the Jesse Tree and I know that John is doing that with his family this Advent.John and Bobbi have gifted me the smaller statue as well as one for granddaughter, Birdie Barbara. The larger one was put out on the curb in Fort Leavenworth,KS and Maria picked it up for me.
A special Advent Saint to join us in our prayer. I still have her in the wreath today and she might just stay there for a while to remind me of my patron Saint and how special she is in this season of the First Week of Advent devoted to HOPE.
Advent wreath and Christmas tree. Tonight we are making our Belgian cookies! Christmas is in the air or should I say Advent leading up to Christmas?
LOVE my namesake so much!
A special memory from 12 years ago of a discussion between grandpa Farmer Pat and 4 year old David... Dave wanted to bring him home to his house, but grandpa explained that he would have to stay on the farm and Dave would have to visit him there. How grandpa loves that his young farm family love and work willingly on the farm for our bright future! Tom helping grandma put up the tree and decorate - he hung his ornaments on the bottom of the tree - too cute!
I told Tom this was his mom - it is from 1981 a year after she was born and she had a red snowsuit like this!
The one who I named after Nancy - daughter #2 who was born with black hair so thick that it looked like fur on her head and I called her Nanuk of the North! Tom put her on the tree too!
Tom found this from 2021 when the 3 littles were born. Tom is in the middle of Regina and Magdalene. He saw that he had his special blanket when he was just 2 weeks old.
Tom sees himself in the ball!
Hanging his mommy on the tree.
So excited when the lights came on...
JOY!!!
Watching grandpa putting up the tree.
Fun to have little 3 year old Thomas here to make the tree a special family time. How we are blessed by this little guy and how much he loves us and our home. Wording on Christmas card - the military family...
John's family so sweet...
Nancy's family and more to come from Ruth and Hallel to make it complete.

He loves to be near to me...
Snow that is now gone...
From Isaiah today - the Lord is an Eternal Rock, and the Gospel reminds us that we need to build our house upon the rock. "Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them
will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.
The rain fell, the floods came,
and the winds blew and buffeted the house.
But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock..." Matthew 7
Tom with "my kitten" that is now living in the shop. Time to find him a nice warm home for the winter.
A thoughtful pose by the Christmas tree by the big picture window on the farm. Surrounded by some of the beautiful Afghans his mom has made.
The tree in and the snow out. The snowflakes on the window.
A classic ornament made at CCC six years ago.
"Mom's blanket." says Tom
Oh, my sweet boy! He brings so much JOY to grandma.

PRAYER FOR HOLY PRIESTS
(St Charles Borromeo)
O Holy Mother of God,
pray for the priests
your Son has chosen to serve the Church.
Help them, by your intercession,
to be holy, zealous and chaste.
Make them models of virtue
in the service of God’s people.
Help them to be prayerful in meditations,
efficacious in preaching,
and zealous in the daily offering of
the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
Help them administer the sacraments with joy.Amen
These special days are filled with many extra duties.
