"abounding joy in your presence..." Psalm 16

We found this cluster of ballons stuck in our pasture fence while we were fixing it after the winter snows had broken, bent and beat it down.... Pat made me laugh as he said that people and their balloons do damage, and I couldn't really see what this cluster of "Your how old?" balloons were harming..."They are scaring away the wildlife."  was Pat's answer.  Yes, I can see how a bunch of yellow balloons being tossed by the wind stuck in a fence could be a big scarey thing for a deer or a pheasant.  I just thought that it was funny and the mind numbing job became fun, and then when he cut them loose and they scattered up the grassy hillside... this picture makes me smile too.
I can be resentful and grumpy when I am helping at times... my husband would probably say most of the time.  I always have a list of projects including my carved out time in front of the computer, and other things taking me away from "my time" is hard for me to be smiling about.  But even with all that going on... it seems that the Lord gives me time to laugh and to do my most favorite thing in the world - watch my husband in all his strength and wisdom do his many and diverse jobs.  Now with digital, I can capture him without too many complaints, and not always from the back either! The sky towards evening was such an amazing backdrop for him as he pieced together the puzzle of the electric fence... keeping the cows and calves where they belong over the summer and fall months!  It looks like he is praying, and he does say that his time outside with the animals and all the challanges they are... and now with the challange this year of getting the crop in... I am sure that there are many prayers passing through his mind and heart!  I love the time on the 4 wheeler bringing him this or that as he needs it, and moving along with him...to have my rosary beads and be praying with the time together out in nature!

Pounding in a post to give the fence more stability...  Each year fixing the fence is the rite of spring.  With all the snow last winter... it was a big job!  These words from ST Peter as the second reading in mass yesterday:  "Beloved:  If you invoke as Father him who judges impartially according to each one's works, conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your sojourning, realizing that you were ransomed from your futile conduct... not with perishable things like siler or gold but with the precious blood of Christ as of a spotless unblemished lamb."  This life is the time of our sojourning, and doesn't it seem like a journey we are on?... it gives a person so much peace to know that out of Love for us that Christ ransomed us from a life of sin and death, and that He is in control of it all!  We discovered that big time with John's brain cancer, and we will be at the 2 year mark in a month on Father's day!  But today I am also thinking about all the smaller things that come with life everyday and how if we remember that He is there beside us and He is in control... we can smile at the little things that come along to make us feel some of that peace and joy!

I wanted to share one other humorous moment... as we were walking the fence - Pat on his feet checking the wire and putting it back on post after post, after the snow had knocked it down.. I going along on the other side of the fence on the 4 wheeler with all the equipment and fence fixing supplies... there was this huge belt that had been on some piece of equipment laying there, so thinking that it was from a tractor mishap recently... I asked him about it.  He made me laugh with surprise when he said - "I don't know.  Maybe it fell out of an airplane." Then he told me that this was something that Cy their hired man would say to him, when there was something curious that he couldn't explain.  Suddenly I just had to laugh and still smile at the thought, because as my kids will tell you and I have learned after 32 years of marriage - Pat is a wealth of endless questions and curiosity about everything under the sun.  I could see him out working with Cy day after day and being Pat with him, and this is what Cy came up with to get him to bug off..."Maybe it fell out of an airplane?!?"  I have already used it, and then I laugh instead of getting my usual annoyance!  Thank you, Cy, for your wisdom and love for my Patrick Gerard!

This cute little sandpiper sitting on some cattail vegetation gave me some cuteness factor... I am always loving the reflections of the water too!  Jesus, with a groggy head today after a hard overnight at the nursing home... it is nice to be reminded of the little joys that come our way in the humdrum things that make up our lives.  The week lays before me - yet to be written and the journey to be shown to us and traveled as you are in control and it is according to your plan.  In the midst of it all you give us that peace and joy as we are in a state of constant prayer, and asking to be used to your honor and glory in our day to day lives.   We ask for these graces especially within our families - those that we love the most in this world.  Jesus, we trust in you!  Amen and Halleluia!

Bless-bless, Barb
Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.

Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.
