Glory lies in being a creature of so great and loving a God - St Francis of Assisi/"Francis lived the Gospel!" - +JMJ+

Tom a year ago with his namesake - my dad Deacon Robert Cross in his lift chair.  Thomas Robert will be 2 on November 19th.  Dad never met him as he died on October 23, 2020.  Dad had lived his last 6 months here in my home.  He was admitted to hospice on the first day he arrived here.

My great JOY was sharing the beauty of hospice with my father after working for hospice as a nurse for 15 years.  People would ask how I could love working with those that are facing death.  My answer; We all face death as it is a part of life.  Assisting patients and their families to meet all their needs as they come along so that they may peacefully walk into the sunset of their lives.  When  you face death all that matters anymore are your Faith and your Family... the rest fades away as not all that important after all.

Oh, Tom, you are such a gift to our farm family.  Such a sign of New LIFE for our farm family!  I will always remind you of the great special man you are named after.  I know he is praying for you from heaven - first and middle names!

St Francis today is such a beautiful Saint that now mom and dad have met in heaven!  I love these words today in the Magnificat ...  Saint Francis' love for creation was neither sentimental nor superficial.  He understood in true humility what glory lies in being a creature of so great and loving a God.  From that perspective there is no greater joy than to give praise and thanks.

Canticle of the Sun by St Francis

Nothing better or more humble to pray!
Pope Benedict today
Dad's man, Brother Victor today - St Francis' love is for Christ crucified."  He was given the stigmata - wounds of Christ to share completely in his suffering.
"Lord, make an instrument of your peace."
Tom a year ago - he has brought so much love to me and our family!  Soon it will be 2 years of Tom's love!  He is such a gift to these old grandparents - how he loves to come here and spend time with this old grandma!

I was pondering today how old I was when we welcomed our first grandchild - Tom's oldest brother, 19 year old Simon.  I was 52 going on 53 nineteen years ago.  In those 19 years we have welcomed 23 grandchildren and each one has brought more love not stretched it more thin!  That is a lot of LOVE!
A crazy one of our 11 granddaughters.
Our 12 grandsons this summer in the white t-shirt picture.
Pat and I with our 23 grandchildren this summer!  Simon the oldest is standing in front of Lucy Marie, the youngest.  She was born on January 11th this year.  This picture form of the motto our family/domestic Church lives by - "Open to LIFE and raising LIGHTS!"
Better? of the girls...
Tom curious about the books that mom and dad left behind for me.  How we love to share our Catholic Faith!  We love everything about The Catholic Church with no reservations!  My parents brought all 13 in our family into The Church 52 years ago and each day since has been a pearl of great price!

Dad was a Permanent Deaon in The Church for 44 years - here he is in Colman,SD in 1998.  He served there for 3 years from my door to theirs.  Learning about farm country first hand!
The Body and Blood lifted up by Fr Denny - "Through Him, with Him and in Him..."

Fr Denny reminded us today that St Francis lived the Gospel we read at mass -

Gospel Lk 9:57-62

As Jesus and his disciples were proceeding
on their journey, someone said to him,
"I will follow you wherever you go."
Jesus answered him,
"Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests,
but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head."
And to another he said, "Follow me."
But he replied, "Lord, let me go first and bury my father."
But he answered him, "Let the dead bury their dead.
But you, go and proclaim the Kingdom of God."
And another said, "I will follow you, Lord,
but first let me say farewell to my family at home."
Jesus answered him, "No one who sets a hand to the plow
and looks to what was left behind is fit for the Kingdom of God."  Luke 9

St Francis "chose to proclaim the Kingdom and leave all behind.  Bring and Be Christ for others."
Jesus comes to us in Body, Blood and Word each day!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Hallelujah and Bless-bless, Barbara and the 33 plus many Little Brothers and Little Sisters
A classic picture of Pat's mom some years back riding on a motorcycle with now Grace's new husband, Jack!
Morning has broken
O God beyond all praising
"May the burning and most sweet power of Your love,
O Lord Jesus Christ, beseech You, absorb my mind that
may die through love of Your love, Who were graciously
pleased
to die through love of my love." St. Francis

Meditation of St. Francis of Assisi

Let everyone be struck with fear,
the whole world tremble, and the heavens exult
when Christ, the Son of the living God,
is present on the altar in the hands of a priest!

O wonderful loftiness
and stupendous dignity!
O sublime humility!
O humble sublimity!
The Lord of the universe,
God and the Son of God,
so humbles Himself
that He hides Himself
for our salvation
under an ordinary piece of bread!

See the humility of God, brothers,
and pour out your hearts before Him!
Humble yourselves
that you may be exalted by Him!
Hold back nothing of yourselves for yourselves,
that He Who gives Himself
 totally to you
may receive you
totally!
