How I longed to take a raft or boat out on an adventure on our lake-for-a-day... Not possible as we are not boat owners, and the cold winds were blowing stongly and the cows would have had a big fright and I might have chased them through the fence that is not working due to being under water... So I had to take my cute little ducky out to allow myself to sail away in my imagination! AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! It even is sailing through the clouds!
A surprise visit from 2 year old Davey... he fell asleep in the pickup while grandpa was checking the water and the cows over in their pasture... Waking up on grandma's couch...we headed out to put clothes on the line...he discovered that his little "farm wagon" was full of rain water and the dogs liked to get some drinks out of it... that made David smile, and that is a wonderful special smile especially when you didn't know that you were going to receive it!
Two other things that make little Davey smile... tractors and grandpa... he found the tractors but where is grandpa? When he gets the two together... he can go for a ride! Today grandma taught him how to honk the horn, but still no grandpa! He was in the house talking on the phone... Grandpa's favorite thing to do!
Life has changed a whole lot in a day for these heifers... what are heifers... they are the 12 lucky female animals that were from the calf crop of last year... the ones Pat kept as the best ones to have the calf for every year of the rest of it's life! Some, like Bertha, just had her 12th calf and more! For an animal... it means quite a long lease on life. Now their green grassy hillside has turned into a cement yard, because of the flooded pasture that forced them to go out on the road and then into a pen and then into a trailer and now to a yard here at the farm... A bit confused, but soon to find some grassy place to go closer to home!
Out picking beans and tomatos in my garden filled with standing water... I looked over to see this beautiful sight on the tree by our fire pit... I think that it is there because of the wet environment that we have had this summer/fall. I thought that it was a beautiful object of nature and that I would reflect on it as part of the interesting late afternoon/evening that are part of this day of all days... Friday September 24th, 2010! There has been no day like this nor will there be again! Each day is a gift! Thank you, Lord!
Bless-bless, Barb
