David was asking about Ally, who went to live in Wisconsin after Maria left to join Joe in Georgia. David wanted to go and see her again, but the story is sad... after being a wonderful pet for over a year, Ally suddenly disappeared, and is no more. Life is filled with loss - there is no getting around it. Pets are very dear to us, and then their lives are so much shorter, so we have to say goodbye to many in our lifetimes. Sometimes it is hard to realize that animals are not on the same plane as people. I find it especially upsetting to see these ads on TV to rescue animals that are abused or neglected, while innocent babies are torn from the womb and killed! There is something terribly wrong with this picture! Yes, animals need to cared for and protected from abuse, but what about the little lives that are lost - the lights that are extinguished by the millions!
Last night in my talk about Prolife in my life... I got a big responce when I shared about our family including the 3 kids in Ruth and Paul's family praying outside an abortion clinic less than 2 years ago. Sharing with Simon and Mary, then 6 and 4, about the fact of abortion, and that confused and scared women decided that they didn't want the baby in their tummy and had it killed and taken out. They both looked shocked that this could happen to beautiful and innocent babies, and agreed that we needed to pray very hard that these women would realize that it is a beautiful precious LIFE to be protected no matter what. We all stood outside and prayed together the 20 decades of the rosary for LIFE. Last campaign there were 821 babies saved!!!!
I hadn't planned to share about Patrick last night, but when I was talking about the children praying for LIFE... I was reminded of Maria's call to Ruth a few days after Patrick was born dead, (after a traumatic birth, and brought back to life, but in critical condition in NICU). "Ruth, are your kids and their classes at the Catholic School praying for Patrick? The prayers of children are so powerful." I saw many heads nodding in the audience in agreement! We are reminded many times by Christ that we need to be like little children, as we humbly come close to HIM in prayer, as well as following where ever He may lead us. Children are always growing and learning and today in the Gospel Jesus in teaching in the synagogue... We need to be open to learn the Way, the Truth, and the Life at the feet of our Lord. Then he is approached by a man with unclean spirits... after Deacon Poyo last week we realize that we all have unclean spirits in and around us, if we allow our selfish wishes and desires... to dictate what we do and what we follow after in our sins, and addictions, and bad habits. "Quiet! Come out of him!" Yes, Lord, I am yours! Help me to leave behind my unclean spirits forever!
Lord, may we remember the example we have of the little ones in our lives that are close to YOU. May we keep our lives simple and humbly ask for you to guide and direct us on our journey down the narrow path carrying our Most Cherished Cross. Just as little ones see your face in all that surrounds us - may we also know that you are with us always. You do not leave us alone to face the hard things in life - you are carrying us when we are weak and turn to YOU. Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Halleluia
