Ready for the Green! Come Spring!!!!
I remember this dress so much from her older sister... they are both spring girls, so they fit into the same clothes as they grow older! I asked Ruth to dress the kids in St Patrick's green - knowing today would be the big day of celebration! It is the feastday of my husband and grandsons Patrick and we know Nancy's boy will have Patrick for his middle name... many Patricks to congratulate and celebrate with this day! Such a powerful day as I also have a most cherished sister, Mary, her birthday was today. I say was, because she died 27 years ago at the age of 28 from lymphoma! Emotion packed day also because of the experience with grandson, Patrick almost a year and a half ago in El Paso and finding so much comfort at St Patrick's Cathedral just a couple blocks from where he was in NICU! No wonder there was so much anticipation for this day to come and so much joy and excitement in the midst of the day we have before us. There is a cow that just calved along with one that is in the process of calving... plus two more born during the night. There is a winter storm warning for tomorrow, so Pat expects to have many calves today and we are off to a rip roaring start. We will have to name a bull Patrick for sure!
Humoring grandma for St Patrick's day! Reading morning prayer with Nancy and John in the midst of cow TV with updates about this cow calving or this calf nursing... The first psalm was Psalm 42, and David describes such a joyful scene as he leads the throng into the house of the Lord -"wild with joy." That kind of describes the mentality of people when it comes to St Patrick's Day! My sister, Mary, would totally embrace the celebration of St Patrick's Day as it was also her day of birth! Two of my daughters were her Goddaughters, so they adopted this celebration as special and joyful for them also!
We had green pancakes with green syrup and green sprinkles on top this morning. It was super special to have Nancy here on my sister's birthday- her Godmother! How we smiled to think that her new little one had his first day of celebration too! Of course, grandpa Patrick smiled to see the yummy pancakes for his special day!
A crazy hat for St Patrick's Day! I have to have more liberal pictures today for daddy, Bill, in the Philippines!
Now Bernadette was a good sport, and notice how quickly those yummy green pancakes are disappearing!
One of those crazy action shots - "No! I don't want to wear that silly hat, mom!"
St Patrick's Day Lanoue family!
Reading the Gospel before bed last night gave me a twinge of shame... I had just been reminded of my daughter that some of the statements I was making sounded judgmental. I walked away feeling like I was justified and in the right, until I read the Gospel for today - Luke 6! "Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven..." Well, it all came crashing over me, and I felt that I had just been reminded by one very close to me that I needed to be more loving and forgiving and hope for the best for others! It seems that my wonderful children are there to point out my weaknesses and failings, and then it is followed up by Jesus speaking His words to me. Lord, help me to be better at loving as YOU want me to love.
My sister, Mary, on what would have been her 57th birthday today! She will forever be young as she died at 28 years old in 1986! She was newly married to her farmer, Jerry, and had a baby daughter, Audrey, about Roses age - 20 months! She loved very much that her birthday was on March 17th - St Patrick's Day - and celebrated it with JOY and gusto! She came and lived with me when I was pregnant with Nancy and was on bedrest with toxemia. She fell in love with the farm - helping Pat and his brothers milk cows morning and night. After Nancy was born she was to be her beloved Godmother, and then Susan's Godmother towards the end of her life. I thought I would keep her here with us, if I made her and Jerry Susan's Godparents... She died when Susan was 8 months of July 3rd, 1986 the same day I discovered that my 3 1/2 month baby had died in my womb and would join her in heaven! I had a most scary miscarriage the night before her wake, and ended up in the hospital on IVs due to blood loss. I barely made it weakly to her wake...devastated by the loss of my dear sister as well as my little son, Thomas. I named him Thomas as July 3rd is the feast day of St Thomas the doubter. Now every time the priest lifts the Body and Blood of Jesus up at the Consecration - I bow and repeat the words of St Thomas - "My Lord and my God!" - recognizing Christ by His wounds in His resurrected body! Rivers are pouring from me today!
So many special St Patrick's Day pictures!
We celebrate with great JOY!
Singing the Blessing song we learned from the Community of the Lamb before our big Sunday dinner! Jesus, we are so filled with wonder and Joy at the feasts so special to our family! With Grandpa Patrick, and grandson Patrick, who is our miracle boy... so much celebrating! Then to have my sister in heaven and reminded of her birthday this day, and how she is brought close to us in remembering her joyful time with us! She showed us how wonderful our life here on the farm is, and then was gifted with a couple years of being on the dairy farm in Wisconsin as a wife and mother! Jesus, we love you and thank you. May we remember how we are loved and forgiven and shown your mercy when we are undeserving and in turn do that to all we encounter in our lives - most especially with those closest to us in our domestic church/family! Jesus, we trust in YOU. Amen and Hallelujah
A beautiful picture of grandson, Patrick, I borrowed from Nancy's blog! Happy Feastday, dear Patrick!
A trip to St Patrick's with grandpa, Patrick and healed grandson, Patrick when we were in El Paso a few weeks ago!
Bless-bless, Barbara Luke
You gave us strength when we were afraid and sick, St Patrick!
St Patrick, pray for us!
St Patrick, show how to be humble of heart!
I am going overboard today, but I am filled as with a banquet with all that St Patrick has done for us over the years! Notice the snakes fleeing... I love that about him too. That really grabbed the attention of little Dave in the midst of our praying for our little Patrick in NICU - St Patrick was a cool "good guy" in fighting off the snakes!
How I clung to you, ST Patrick, in the midst of the storm!
Casting Crowns - Praise Him in the Storm
