Mothering role model - Mary

Nancy shared these cute pictures her two older kids in the local lake ... I just thought they were so especially joyful to see, and a good way to start my sharing today.  It looks to be short due to being needed to run my husband...
My 3 wonderful daughters with all their kids - this will outdated in a month when Maria will have our 12th grandchild - grandson #8!  It was such a delight to have this from our time together in Michigan.  I realized that the toddlers would be better if mom was in the picture with them, and it worked!  Today being the feast day of St Mary Major Basilica in Rome - Pope Francis wrote about how Mary is the model of motherhood for us in the meditation  on May 4, 2013 in The Basilica of Saint Mary Major...
"Our Lady... helps us to grow as human beings and in the faith, to be strong and never to fall into the temptation of being human beings and Christians in a superficial way, but to live responsibly and to strive ever higher."  He shares that Mary shows us not to be lazy and content with "a comfortable lifestyle, contenting oneself with possessions.  The mother takes care that her children develop better, that they grow strong, capable of accepting responsibilities , of engaging in life, of striving for great ideals..."

Yes, we truly do need to raise our LIGHTS/children given us by God to seek first the Kingdom of God and all the rest will fall into place!  Pope Francis is reminding us that as mothers we need to model accepting work and not striving for things but for a small slice of heaven in our domestic Church/family by sharing our Faith with Joy, by embracing the Truth and selling all to make that Pearl of great price owned and cherished by us... dying to self so that Christ may live and work in us, by giving without counting the cost.  All very hard to do, and impossible to do without Christ and His Bride, The Church showing us the Way, The Truth, and the LIFE - Christ!!!

Lord, I am so very blessed to have Our Spiritual Mother always there to guide and direct me down the path of Motherhood.  So many graces and blessings meet us along the way as we are embrace LIFE and say "yes" to the gift of LIFE in our marriages.  How can we welcome many children into this mess of a world?  (John and I watched the news last night and were appalled by the death and hatred and natural disasters we witnessed - in about 5 minutes we saw dead children from a bomb blast in Sinai/Isreal, and pulling a dead child from the rubble of an earthquake, and a mass grave of men shot to death, and then their being shot in the head and dumped into a river... such graphic horror!  There is no way a child could watch the news with their parents!  So hard and sad is this world!)  We say yes to LIFE for this very reason - as My Most Cherished Cross told me at our engagement weekend - "The world needs LIGHTS."  Yes, Lord, they need to be protected from the ugly darkness of sin and death, yet stand on their own two feet in embracing their Faith and making it their own and the basis from which they face all that comes to them in life.  That they may take up their Most Cherished Cross and follow after Jesus and His Bride, The Church.  Jesus, we trust in YOU.  Amen and Hallelujah

"Like a good mother Mary is close to us, so that we may never lose courage before the adversities of life, before our weakness, before our sins: she gives us strength, she shows us the path of her Son... The Lord entrusts us to the loving and tender hands of the Mother, that we might feel her support in facing and overcoming the difficulties of our human and Christian journey; to never be afraid of the struggle, to face it with the help of The Mother."  Pope Francis
John was just talking about decorating his office..."I probably shouldn't have my big picture of Mary in there - bigger than the truck pictures on the wall, but I definitely want her there somewhere.  Maybe on my laptop or a small crucifix and picture somewhere...  I love her and thank her for bringing me to Jesus and The Church."  John Verly
I guess my constantly/praying without ceasing the rosary through John's cancer journey plus going to Lourdes twice brought John to love his Spiritual Mother, Mary the Mother of God!  It brings tears to my eyes and joy to my heart!
john 2John and Hallel love life!  Hallel now is a mother to many of the little ones she meets among the poor.
