Holy Thursday.... clouds, cold wind. Lord's supper in Rome, washing feet

5 years ago in KC with Hallel in Easter week with Hallel in Lumen Christi/LIGHT of Christ Monastery.

The bells will be ringing to welcome the dawn on Easter morning after the vigil through the night with The Community of the Lamb. We will not be able to share with them this year, but know in our hearts the way they love and worship totally and entirely!   How we love to be there with them as they very closely and powerfully go through each and every step of the Triduum.
A stirring picture shared by a niece, who visited mom's grave to see her now in the ground and her flowers still there showing how recently we said goodbye.  Just going on 3 weeks since we gathered at her graveside!
The place of prayer and worship in our home with the palms from Sunday, and the Cross which will be adored tomorrow on Good Friday.  Today is Holy Thursday and as I write this I am listening to the mass in St Peter's empty cathedral!
Pope Francis just preached on priests and how they sacrifice their lives to serve us as Christ!

From St JPII today...
The priestly vocation is a mystery.  It is the mystery of a "wondrous exchange" between God and man.  A man offers his humanity to Christ, so that Christ may use him as an instrument of salvation, making him as it were into another Christ.  Unless we grasp the mystery of this "exchange," we will  not understand how it can be that a young man, hearing the words "Follow me!" can give up everything for Christ, in the certainty that if he follows this path he will find complete personal fulfillment.
In our world is there any greater fulfillment of our humanity than to be able to re-present every day in persona Christi the redemptive sacrifice, the same sacrifice which Christ offered on the Cross?  In this sacrifice, on the one hand, the very mystery of the Trinity is present in the most profound way, and, on the other hand, the entire created universe is "united".  The Eucharist is also celebrated in order to offer "on the altar of the whole earth the world's work and suffering."...At Holy Mass, after the consecration, the priest says the words... the mystery of faith!  These words refer of course to the Eucharist.  In a way, however, they also concern the priesthood.  There can be no Eucharist without the priesthood, just as there can be no priesthood without the Eucharist.
St JPII (2005)
6 feet apart... I am listening to the Pope as he consecrates the Body and Blood in the mass!  So powerful!
So special to share in this today!

The Body of Christ - I am not worthy for you to enter under my roof... never leave me Lord as you dwell in my inner chapel!
A most unusual sight and never before during Holy Week!!!
Too cute to see this in St Peter's and a sign of the times we find ourselves these days!
We find a cold windy day with stunning clouds overhead - an occasional dark cloud showers down snow whipped by the wind!  Ruth's newly remodeled farmhouse will soon have green shutters around the windows.
It seems that the time I spend with my husband during the days is on the road - today we headed about 45 minutes away to pick up a part.  I drove so that he could do his business on the phone.  I can still hold my rosary beads and pray in my chapel on wheels... LOVE!

It was a good thing to read the Gospel numerous times together starting the night before and again this morning after sharing morning prayer... the washing of Feet!  Just now listening to mass in Rome with Pope Francis - these words jumped out and each word of John 13:1-15 as I heard them for the 3rd time...
Before the feast of Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come
to pass from this world to the Father.
He loved his own in the world and he loved them to the end...

Know of that LOVE of the Lord for us!  He gave himself for us!
Mass is now over in Rome and I am listening to Fr Craig while I write this... one of the wonderful priests that came to my heart as I read the words of St JPII and shared them here as they are amazing to consider how these amazing young men are led to give their all for Jesus!
Fr Craig Holy Thursday homily

A picture from 7 years ago when we picked up Maria and her 3 in El Paso, and drove to KC to bring home Hallel for her home visit just ahead of a huge snowstorm!  When Little Dave met Hallel for the first time she asked him; "Do you know who I am?"  "No, but you look just like my mom."  Yes!!! All the little Sisters were amazed to see healed Patrick after his healing after being born dead and brought back to life!

Easter 2008 - baby Therese and her Godmother, Susan/Hallel.  Yes, leaves and lilacs bursting forth!  Susan left for France to join the Community of the Lamb just 5 months later!  So powerful has it been to share on that journey!

Maria discerning with the Poor Clares in 2004...  We brought along Easter dinner and passed food to her through the openings of the enclosure.  So powerful and an Easter we will never forget.  She asked dad and I to return a few weeks later and she told us that she had discerned to leave.  We brought baby kitties and passed them through the openings for her to see...

Hallel a postulant in France shortly before John's brain cancer - 2009
2016 the year of the big change - move!  Much has changed!
The new picture of the farm now with a young vibrant family
"I promise unto death."  Hallel's final vows and John and Bobbi married within a few months and one here and one in France with the mountain moving from here to there to support both!  LOVE!
2018 - John's engagement/marriage in June, and time with Hallel back in KC!
The losses butterfly - I need to add one for Nancy and one that came to me lately of a passing of a clot and concern that they were miscarrying yet kept on to birth - the loss of a twin?  I have named her Martha and wonder if she will greet me in heaven someday or if my mom has already met her with the other 12.  I love to keep my eyes focused on heaven and strive to be there someday with all those that have gone before me and Jesus, Mary and the Saints!

Jesus, you wash my feet with your love and unconditional forgiveness.  I am made clean as I lay my sins at your feet in the confessional and hear you speak the words of love and forgiveness over me!  "Your sins are forgiven go in peace to love and serve the Lord."  May we return that unconditional love and forgiveness to those around us most especially those in our domestic Church/family.  "Wounded, I will never cease to love." the Lamb shows us the way to give our all!!!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen

Jesus shows us and tells us...
So when he had washed their feet
and put his garments back on and reclined at table again,
he said to them, “Do you realize what I have done for you?
You call me ‘teacher’ and ‘master,’  and rightly so, for indeed I am.
If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet,
you ought to wash one another’s feet.
I have given you a model to follow,
so that as I have done for you, you should also do.”

Today is #HolyThursday, or #MaundyThursday, when the Church commemorates the Institution of the Holy Eucharist, consecrates holy oils for the sacraments, and celebrates Jesus' institution of the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Holy Thursday marks the beginning of the #Triduum: https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/resources/holy-week/holy-thursday/the-significance-of-holy-thursday #EWTN #Catholic #HolyWeekatHome

Holy Thursday

HOLY THURSDAY
Institution of the Sacraments
of Holy Eucharist and Holy Orders

“Consider, on your knees, the mystery
of God’s love for us, that He didn't want to leave us orphans.
… For Christ knew our hunger for Himself.
He knew that we would be walking around in the darkness
of a thousand wars and miseries throughout this life. …

This is Holy Thursday.  This is when the Christ
we are talking about took an ordinary piece of bread and a little wine
and changed it into His Body and His Blood. …
Remember this day always, year after year:
the day of Christ’s infinite love, when He went away
and yet He remained, in Bread and Wine, and in the priest. …

In His immense love, Christ chose men
who would have His hands and His feet, in whom He could walk,
in whom He could forgive sins, who could lift Him up, who could give us
the sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist – the Bread and Wine,
which He said makes for everlasting life!
The incredible love of God is visible to us! ..."
