A year ago today was Mother's Day and I recalled that I was able to be with my mother on Mother's Day last year. How we share a profound LOVE for Jesus, His Mother, Mary, and The Church. Dad described her today - "A woman, who loved The Word. And Jesus is the Word."
This was a rare occurrence for me to be with mom on Mother's Day. For many years I would sell first corsages and later roses for mother's Day to raise money for Birthright by Council of Catholic Women. Of course this year it did not happen either, and I have since given the reigns over to others.
How I am appreciating all the special time my husband allowed me to spend with my parents! Mom and I had shared some wonderful days together over Mother's Day last year!

Their beautiful church in Taylors Falls, MN! We have fake plans to have a funeral mass for my mother gone for almost 2 months now...there when the world settles down and gets back to the new normal where we can return to mass and the Sacraments.
This last year has had so many changes for my parents - now only my father remaining and he lives with me and is on hospice.
Mom's prayer books, with the monk bookends she had found second hand and loved, and other devotional books she used daily including a Day by Day with Pope Benedict XVI that she loved and used year after year! These bring me lots of JOY to have them with us as we pray each morning and evening!
The words from the Gospel come to life and as dad said - Nancy was a woman of the Word, and the fact that she wrote and taught and diagramed a Bible Study for the entire Bible... says it all!
John 14 today...Jesus said to his disciples:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives do I give it to you.
Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid..."
John 14:27
Dad and I find so much peace in finding daily the prayers for those in the Kingdom and finding that peace and LOVE all around them - our wife and mother, Nancy.

Each evening dad reads his emails and loves to find messages from his kids there along with news and pictures on facebook!
We were talking about how mom loved to plant and care for amazing flower gardens over the years. Along with her love for big wonderful dogs, of which they had many and we imagine them frolicking all around her as she walks through a glorious heavenly garden filled with all the flowers that she grew, tended, pulled the weeds from and loved! Truly the heaven where my mother is now along with my sister and brother there and so many children lost by me and my siblings.
It was a sight of great comfort and peace and happiness for my father and I this morning!
Sharing morning prayer as we do after breakfast together.
We also share the Gospel and today we were hugely comforted by His Peace in our quiet prayerful days shared here in the country.
We are looking forward to warmer weather and time on our porch for meals and prayer of the rosary in the afternoon. Hopefully this was the last night for our having to put a blanket over our plants for the night. Put them to bed and tuck them in!
My father leading our morning prayer with the monks sharing in and the flag that was a gift to him from hospice for his service to our country in WW2.
Dad is settling in and slowly his things are arriving to allow him to be more comfortable and at home. A beautiful card arrived from my sister, Cher, yesterday with her Spring artwork! We take each day as it comes!
The Hallel Psalm 145 of total praise is truly how dad and I proclaim our prayers together with many "Alleluias"
Let all your works give you thanks, O LORD,
and let your faithful ones bless you.
Let them discourse of the glory of your kingdom
and speak of your might.
R. Your friends make known, O Lord, the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
or:
R. Alleluia.
Psalm 145
Dad is big on Jesus' friendship with him!
Hospice is helping him to feel pampered and special with all his needs tended to so carefully and completely! I was so impressed by how his nails on hands and feet were cut with such care! Even filing down his rough edges! Thank you, and we are so happy that our King of the family is treated so well!
Yes, I was once a hospice nurse for 15 years with the same agency, but I was very impressed with how she cared for my dad. So gentle and honoring of him. I learned at her feet as she pampered our King!
Now the toes - washing, and drying and caring for his toenails even filing them smooth, and caring for the cuticles of his toes! So honoring and gentle and loving. Wow! A picture of hospice and how they are caring for the entire person.
I always loved my years on hospice and how it treats the coming of the end of your days as a part of the lives each of us is to live to the end. Death is a part of life, and none of us can deny that as truth. I loved how facing the end of our lives takes all the stuff out of the way and we are left with Faith and Family! How I love to have the honor and privilege to share that with my father! Thank you, Lord!
My dad's wish for potato soup for lunch today.
This small desk came to me 20 years ago with the bedroom set from my parents. Dad started using it today to work on his finances and correspondences. "It looks familiar, and your mother would like to see my using it.
Helping him to get organized with his own spaces.
Jesus, I am eternally blessed and grateful to my parents for listening to the direction of The Holy Spirit in their lives and taking us on the most amazing awesome journey into your True Church! May we die to self so that your Spirit may guide and direct our every moment of our lives. May we give without counting the cost! Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Hallelujah

Mom with her mother's day rose from last year... now she is walking in the heavenly garden which resembles her many gardens over her lifetime!
Mom, I miss you a lot, but we are consoled that you are at peace in the heavenly Kingdom in the dwelling place made for you, and we know that it is a thing of great beauty as you brought so much order and beauty into our lives over your time as our mother! For me that was 68 1/2 years! I am the luckiest oldest child! Bless-bless, Barb

and we will die to love still more." - St Joseph Cafasso

Remembering...
"Today is the historical feast of Blessed Imelda Lambertini. The daughter of a noble family, Blessed Imelda was born in 1322 in Bologna, Italy. She was an only child and grew up going to Mass frequently with her family. When she was nine, Imelda entered the Dominican Convent in Val di Pietra. As the youngest one there, she prayed with the others and wore a modified Dominican habit, but was unable to receive Communion, which was not permitted by Church law until the age of twelve. This hurt her very deeply. She prayed that Jesus would grant her wish and allow her to receive Him sooner. She even asked the convent priest, but he refused to make an exception. To receive Jesus in Communion became the consuming desire of her heart. She would even sometimes exclaim: "Tell me, can anyone receive Jesus into his heart and not die?"
When Imelda was eleven years old, on the eve of the Ascension, she remained behind after Mass, praying silently in the chapel. As the other sisters began to leave the chapel, a great miracle occurred. Suddenly, a heavenly fragrance filled the air and a luminous host had emerged from the tabernacle and was hovering above Imelda's head. The sisters told the priest and upon seeing the host, he knelt in adoration and received the host on the paten. He immediately gave Communion to Imelda. Upon receiving Jesus, Imelda was so overcome with joy that she had died in a loving state of ecstasy. In 1910, Pope St Pius X began to allow children to receive Holy Communion at age seven."
