Joy a few days ago helping mom make lunches for those helping pick up bales. She is now a happy 3 year old farm girl, who loves to help mom and be outside watching farmer grandpa!
Since my mother's funeral quite a few of our family are in Michigan where mom and dad lived for 12 happy years on the shore of Lake Michigan! There is a wonderful grotto there and mom and dad put a paver stone there in their appreciation for those wonderful years that dad served the parish as a deacon.
My brother sent this to us so that we could see dad's memorial.
My brother visiting the grotto this week.
Some great-grandkids there honoring their family ties to this beautiful place that is so much in our hearts! Mom and dad sure instilled in me and my grandkids such a love for Michigan and the Big Lake! How I yearn to go there sometime.
My granddaughter, Rose Again, had fake plans to go there this summer, but the Lord had different plans for me. I am, however, leaving my dad for the first time in almost 4 months. I am leaving in the morning with my farmer to go to KC and see our nun!
The wonderful Cross family that put so much into Mom's sendoff last weekend are now cooling their toes in the Big Lake! So great!!!
Literally cooling their toes - brother, Dan and grandchildren! So wonderful and happy for them to be having wonderful family time! Yes, dad we are filled with gratitude for your years in Manistique and sharing that time with us by inviting us to come and enjoy the vacation home on Lake Michigan!
My bunch on the same beach about 9 years ago!!! I runs deep our love and memories of this heavenly place and our "gratitude to God for happy years!"
The roses Ruth planted in planters on my porch for Birdie's baptism are loving this hot humid weather! Ruth and Paul also put up the flag on the flagpole which my father and I enjoy watching blow in the prairie winds and see what direction that wind is blowing.
David with Mary's first goat from Iowa! Mary is now in the goat farmer business in breeding, kidding and selling goats for meat!
"She is lonesome. She misses her herd." Well, last night she met 3 more goats that Mary went to Wisconsin to buy, so she now has her own herd on the Paul Lanoue Farm!
Mary has now officially become a farmer in her own right! She is a wonderful girl, who is an animal lover and hard worker, and has a mind for business. David joins her in having a special place in his heart for goats.
Out early watering the plants and enjoying the hot humid morning. I am needing to do menus for dad and a daily routine for my sister-in-law, nurse Elaine! It is hard to leave my house to someone else and expect them to be able to function. Lots of thoughts and prayers!
Carried away with my barn and roses and flooded with thoughts and prayers for the weekend! Jesus, is in control!
Another flower box abloom!
Daily mass for my brother and wife... St Francis de Sales where my father was deacon for 12 years.
We have orders to bring along my 3 laying hens to Hallel and The Community of the Lamb tomorrow. Feed and straw bales and jars of our canning and meat... we love to include our nun daughter and her family of the Lamb in our canning and meat! We feed 7 families and to know that our nun, who has lived in Europe for many of her 11 years with them, can have our food and enjoy the love that we put into it... it is such a gift to this old mother! I am even pondering making them food when I am there... BBQ and cabbage ramen salad comes to mind.
A few days before mother's funeral she/mother reminded me of a painting I needed to do for a sister of mine, Marty! I love to paint with watercolor and this time of year when I am in Michigan for my weeks is time I love to do that, so the timing was very good for me! I really felt mom with me prompting me and I loved every minute of it!
My sister has an amazing family, which is her wonderful witness to their good soil bearing much wonderful fruit! She has 6 children and 21 grandchildren! Their family has 34 members. So powerful in light of the Gospel today!
"...But the seed sown on rich soil
is the one who hears the word and understands it,
who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.”
Matthew 13:23
Another great example of good soil bearing much fruit are my parents! Dad with 7 of the 10 last weekend. His family is over 140+ now! How he prays for them without ceasing! How we all depend upon those prayers.
Jesus, we are yours and long to love and serve you without counting the cost. May the Word/you Jesus dwell in us and bring us to die to self as the grain of wheat, so that we may bear much fruit as you dwell and work in us. Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Hallelujah
Another Michigan oldie at the lighthouse about 8 years ago! He has the whole world in his hands!
Prayers for John, who is between jobs again. Jesus, we trust in you! Bless-bless, Barbara
We are a team and we take one day at a time. This will be a new experience and we will be praying for it to go smoothly for all involved. Jesus, once again, we place our trust in you.
The grotto of Our Lady in Manistique is a place of pilgrimage for our family!
St. Sharbel Makhluf suffered a stroke while celebrating mass, just after praying these words. It is said he chose to celebrate mass at noon so he could spend his morning getting ready and his afternoon in Praise and Thanksgiving. St. Sharbel, pray for us!
"Nothing created has ever been able to fill the heart of man.
God alone can fill it infinitely." - St. Thomas Aquinas
In 1875 Fr Sharbel was granted permission to live as a hermit nearby his monastery at St. Peter and Paul hermitage. His 23 years of solitary life were lived in a spirit of total abandonment to God.
Sharbel's companions in the hermitage were the Sons of God, as encountered in the Scriptures and in the Eucharist, and the Blessed Mother. The Eucharist became the center of his life. He consumed the Bread of his Life and was consumed by it.
Though this hermit did not have a place in the world, the world had a great place in his heart. Through prayer and penance he offered himself as a sacrifice so that the world would return to God. It is in this light that one sees the importance of the following Eucharistic prayer in his life:

"Father of Truth, behold Your Son a sacrifice pleasing to You, accept this offering of Him who died for me..." On December 16, 1898 while reciting the "Father of Truth" prayer at the Holy Liturgy Sharbel suffered a stroke. He died on Christmas Eve at the age of 70. Through faith this hermit received the Word of God and through love he continued the Ministry of Incarnation.
