St Kateri! One day closer to our big family gathering for mom! Dad getting pampered by Hospice!

Mom and dad at my wedding in Basilica of St Mary on August 3, 1978.  Soon it will be 42years ago!  Mom would have been 49 years old.  How can that be?  She is youthful and lovely as is dad.  He married me as a Permanent deacon, and Pat's cousin, Fr Vincent Louwagie did the mass for us.  Very special for sure!
Going through old pictures - probably 6 years ago.

I was looking for a trip we took to KC for the 3 American girls taking their habits and changing their names.  One became Little Sister Kateri, and today is a special day for her as it is the Memorial Feast day of St Kateri!  Special indeed!
Junior high age Susan/Hallel with black eyed susans and a cat.  Probably a photo shoot for her birthday in September.  Pat was saying that we should take a weekend and go to visit her in the next month sometime.  That would be awesome!  We love fake plans around here!
With my mom so much on my heart this week  - this one beckoned to be added today to this late sharing.  Mom holding newborn Susan with her 2 older sisters meeting her for the first time.  Nancy and Maria... my mom would come and help me out with each new baby.
My sister, Mary, shortly before she died from cancer with her 2 Goddaughters, Nancy and Susan!  Mary is praying for them from heaven now with mom!  They see our needs with "resurrection eyes!"
Thinking of The Community of the Lamb today with this special feast of such a current and special St Kateri!  I have loved special time of prayer with them since they came to the US 12 years ago!  There is such a powerful presence of The Lord in their simple holy chapel - Lumen Christi/Light of Christ!
Our Lady of Guadalupe is my companion and my friend on this journey - we bring her into our home.  Dad has her looking down on him in his room!
Always hills to climb in KC - it is a very up and down place and we love it there.  This is the old monastery - as of 5 years ago they have their new monastery now.

After our big push to hilly France - Saint Pierre in the foothills of the Pyranees Mts,  and all  the hills in KC this from the Psalm today - Psalm 48
His holy mountain, fairest of heights,
is the joy of all the earth.

How we love to climb the mountain of the Lord with our amazing Community of the Lamb!
A birthday picture with apples a few years back...
Audrey and Nancy in summer of 1999!  Nancy's graduation picture time.  Audrey is my sister, Mary's daughter.
Mom's mother - great-grandma to these kids - my 5 and Audrey!  I would say in 1999.  21 years ago.  Great-grandma lived next store to mom and dad on the Big Lake and died when she was 98.
My  mother at the Farm in Wisconsin... a run down farm place that we bought and fixed up for the summers out of Minneapolis - we grew vegetables and put up food for our family of 13 there.
me and my dad - now a days we are a prayer team!  We added a young man, who committed suicide to our chaplet of Mercy .  We take our prayer seriously every day.
No John yet... probably 1987.  I am 36 and Pat is 33
John arrives in 1989... A handfull for Pat is saying something!
One of my favorites of my parents about 25 years ago... mom would be 65 here.  Still so beautiful!
 Nancy's First Communion in 1990...
Nostalgic about Michigan these days as this is when we would be there on our amazing beach!  John and I in 1995
With the Cross cousins, whom we will see in a few days at mom's funeral!  Even Sam came with his family of 6 from Delaware!  We can't wait for a real hug!!!  And to meet his newest baby boy, Joseph!
My sister Mary's grave the first winter after she died from cancer... Christmas 1986
Maria discerning the Poor Clares in 2004... Dad wants me to call them and have them praying for mom and our family as we gather in just a few days.  "For healing and unity."
My dad took this one of me and my girls in 1987.  I suffered 2 losses between Susan and John and then ended my child bearing years with 3 more losses!  A hard way to end - how I prayed that I could just have one more to show the world without words that I didn't prevent life after I had my boy.  I have ALL my children either here with me - the 5, or in heaven awaiting me and praying for me - the 7.

Susan with her Goddaughter, Therese, in 2008.  As a sister she cannot be a Godmother, but got this in under the wire - she entered 6 months later.
4 of us girls - the 3 oldest - Barb, Marty and Paula also Mary, who is now gone!  The 3 oldest girls will be there on Saturday to bid our mother a special farewell.
City girl come to the farm - 1978.
At a nephew wedding some years back.
The Community at final vows in Rome some years back - the virgins with their lamps lit to welcome the Bridegroom!
Little Sister Marie, their foundress washing their feet.
The color of the sky and the shape of the cross!  Giving their all to Jesus!
3 of the girls with their brothers, William and Robert at the cemetery.  I lost them at 20 weeks in the womb and delivered them in the hospital.  Nancy has since lost her Maximilian at 20 weeks on Thanksgiving 2 years back.  He is buried in the same cemetery as his uncles.  We walked from his grave to Nancy's brothers on the day Fr Craig did a service for the family at the grave.
Nancy's confirmation in 1998- the year Ruth graduated high school.
My sister, Mary, holding baby Nancy as my dad baptizes her in 1982.
Susan a week before she left for France - a slave to Mary after the devotion of St Louis de Montfort!  The chain around her ankle was taken off for going through the airport.  Her final time with my parents - lately she has looked my father in the eye and spoken to him on Zoom.  The Community had Zoom mass for us to share with them over the pandemic!
Saying goodbye to her life as a daughter, sister, farm girl, lover of lake Michigan... yes, she still is these things, but is not free to take part in the life she left behind.  Yet, we are so blessed by her decision of answering the call of Jesus to be His Spouse!
Mom with her 5 girls, missing Cheryl, in 1978 at her parents' 50th wedding anniversary in Arizona just shortly after our marriage.  We should all be together in a few days for mom's mass except for Mary
In Michigan with John by the lighthouse - after fighting the battle for his life 11 years ago now!
john's battle won!
Artsy - me at the farm!  Before I met my farmer and really saw a farm in reality!
A bouquet from a walk at the farm!  Dad wants a nice bouquet for mom's mass - I am thinking long lasting garden flowers as mom always had beautiful gardens!
 On our honeymoon in 1978
Hallel with her Goddaughter on a visit to KC in 2010.

Just memories today... soon I need to pray with my father.  Much about my mother and our family as we are just days away from gathering.  Also Hallel and little Sister Kateri today on her feast day, and all the amazing blessings we receive from our Community of the Lamb in our lives!

"Wounded, I will never cease to love."  Bless-bless, Barbara
Dad getting spoiled by hospice doing his nails!
 The girls in Mich!
 Flagpole flowers
 Looking up at the flag
 windy prayers yesterday!
Dad doing the work - Prayer!
Just in from praying with dad on the porch - rosary and chaplet.  Today was cool so I need to go and pull weeds without too much sweat.

"I am not my own; I have given myself to Jesus.
He must be my only love. The state of helpless poverty that may befall me
if I do not marry does not frighten me.  All I need is a little food and a few
pieces of clothing.  With the work of my hands I shall always earn
what is necessary and what is left over I'll give to my relatives and to the poor.
If I should become sick and unable to work, then I shall be like the Lord
on the cross. He will have mercy on me and help me, I am sure."

St Kateri Tekakwitha, pray for us!

When talking to my father about mom's final hours - "She begged me; "Help me, Barbie,I can't breath and I am in so much pain."  Like being on the cross as you have to push up with those feet nailed to the Cross to get a breath.
