They were over to deliver my first sweet corn - an entire pail of corn! They also helped move the cows in the pasture, so they won't be coming up here in front of the barn until later in the summer after the grass has grown again.
Gus has been visiting since the party on Saturday and Ruth drove him back to his home today in Delano. He loves his time on the farm and was asking for more days, but mom said "no."
Yes, Big Dave got permission from dad to grow his hair out this summer and make it blond. He looks OK and is getting that tweenager attitude at 12years old.
The bushy blond went in to say "Hi" to great-grandpa and to get some licorice treats that great-grandpa likes to share with the kids that come from time to time. "Did he use peroxide on his hair?"
Starting to act like a teenager.. but he waited for permission from his parents. And he still gave grandma a smile and said; "it will be on your blog." You know me well, Dave!
The readings from today spoke to me in the Psalm 36... all of it is so wonderful!!!
R. (10a) With you is the fountain of life, O Lord.
O LORD, your mercy reaches to heaven;
your faithfulness, to the clouds.
Your justice is like the mountains of God;
your judgments, like the mighty deep.
R. With you is the fountain of life, O Lord.
How precious is your mercy, O God!
The children of men take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They have their fill of the prime gifts of your house;
from your delightful stream you give them to drink.
R. With you is the fountain of life, O Lord.
For with you is the fountain of life,
and in your light we see light.
Keep up your mercy toward your friends,
your just defense of the upright of heart.
R. With you is the fountain of life, O Lord.
Dad in his prayer chair on the porch where we sit together every day at 3p for our chaplet and rosary! As dad sits down he looks out over the prairie landscape and ponders the clouds. "Let me take a look at the clouds." Many times he will see messages or images, and the jet streams have made crosses in the sky while we pray. How we appreciate the visibility we have here on the prairie to see all around us much like living on the Big Lake!
A week ago after prayer Pat and grandkids, Mary, Simon and Big Dave called the cows and calves up to eat the grass around the barn. Now able to watch the clouds and the cows and calves!
So very much in the beautiful words and promises of the Psalm today we experience in our shared prayer throughout our day. Dad calls our praying as part of "the miracle" of his arriving here to live and how we keep our noses to the grindstone and do the important work of prayer! Morning prayer, evening prayer and the rosary and chaplet at 3p on our wonderful porch as we watch the clouds sail overhead!
He sat out for a couple hours this day and even ate his supper in his lap watching the cows and calves! I love how he is so alert and interested in farm life, and how he appreciates the "miracle" of his living here with me now for 3 1/2 months - 14 weeks today!
How we experience this Truth as we are united in prayer - Mercy is repeated with each prayer of The Chaplet and we pray for many by name as we share this prayer together, "have mercy on us and on the whole world." 50 times!
For with you is the fountain of life,
and in your light we see light.
Keep up your mercy toward your friends,
your just defense of the upright of heart.
R. With you is the fountain of life, O Lord.
Yes! Our thirst for Jesus is given refreshment by prayer and Jesus in The Word, and His Mother interceding for us in our need!
Clouds that we were hoping to bring rain - we are always looking for rain on the farm... well, the last two years were a bit overboard, but now we are back to normal and asking for regular rains!
Dad's first ear of sweet corn for supper last night..."It was sweet and tender."
Sweet corn time is here!
Sweet corn supper...
Brother Dan at the grotto in Manistique, MI yesterday. How I would love to be there and spend some time by the Big Lake Michigan where we had a vacation home/retirement home since 1998 to 2016... almost 20 years!
Granddaughter, Rose Again, misses it so much and we had fake plans to go there this summer, but the Lord had other plans for me. I am getting my first weekend away from my dad this weekend as Pat and I are going to KC! A sister-in-law, and nurse is coming to be with dad. Thank you, Elaine!
Dad and I doing evening prayer with my flowers for Mary...
Our Joy and the wind beneath our wings is our shared prayer! "The mountains of God" are lifting us up in prayer! "With you is the fountain of LIFE , O Lord."
Mom prays with us - we are confident that she is seeing our needs with resurrection eyes and joining us in more prefect prayers for dad and I and our huge family of 140+! She agrees that these flowers are for a mother better than her. She was a wonderful mother, and I miss her sorely, but we both love Mary, the Mother of God, and know she is the best mother of ALL!
"You cannot love Mary too much, we can never love her more than her Son, Jesus Christ!" St Maximilian Kolbe
My mother with the bouquet showing my devotion and love.
Now delivered to my Queen of heaven and earth at 4a Adoration hour this morning.
Jesus with your Mother, Mary the Queen of Heaven and earth! How I love you and need you to be in charge of my life - you are in control and I trust in you. May I die to self so that you may live in me and I may be your hands and feet. Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Hallelujah
The chicken house in KC at Lumen Christi/light of Christ. The question is whether we will be bringing my 3 egg laying chickens along for them or not. Stay tuned.
Only one is laying yet, so they would like a few more each day...
My mother eating pizza with an audience - her two dogs from Michigan - Cody and Jake. Probably 10+ years ago.
Another Michigan oldie with mom, 3 of my 4 girls and sister-in-law extraordinare, Angela! LOVE this! Angela is now in Michigan and I am loving the idea of her there.
My 3 oldest on the Big Lake 9 years ago?!? So many memories come up these weeks because they are when we would be there as a family over many years. A small slice of heaven in my book. My mother instilled in us a love of the Big Lake and those small mud puddles just do not satisfy. Bless-bless, Barbara
"Blessed may you be, my Lord Jesus Christ. For our salvation
you allowed your side and heart to be pierced with a lance
and from that side water and your precious blood flowed out
abundantly for our redemption.” - St. Bridget of Sweden
"Oh Jesus! Sweetness of hearts,
delight of the spirit,
by the bitterness of the vinegar and gall which
Thou didst taste on the Cross of Love for us,
grant us the grace to receive worthily
Thy Precious Body and Blood during our life
and at the hour of our death,
that they may serve as a remedy
and consolation for our souls. Amen.”
