"We come as little children to be fed and taught, 'like newborn infants' longing for 'pure spiritual milk'... St John Henry Newman and dad

Our first snow in December is coming in the form of a blizzard!  I found this second hand years ago/pre marriage which is now 42 years ago.  It appears to have been in a stand at one time, but it has always been hanging on a branch of my Christmas tree.  Today it fills me with a wondrous warm feeling...

Farmer hubby is home and out of the storm after getting all done on the farm including getting all the grandkids, Ruth and Paul out to help tie down the tarp on the round bales in this terrific wind!  He made me laugh when I asked him if the kids were excited for snow.  "Not really.  I think they have cleaned out too many feed bunks.  Simon said that "snow just means more work."

If you had asked me a few months back I would have thought that dad would be here to witness the first blizzard, but he left us on October 23rd very peacefully with Pat and I at his bedside praying our Hail Holy Queen and Chaplet that dad and I shared each day at 3p.

Dad and mom did witness the prairie blizzards over 20 years ago when they lived in Colman, SD for 3 years as parish Administrators.  They learned first hand how it is when you can barely see the buildings across the street.  We are approaching that now as I am not able to see our neighbors past our red barn.

Barely able to see the barn through the blowing storm.
Out to get Mary, and Jesus standing after a terrific South wind yesterday that blew them over.  Placing them next to the barn protects them now from the north wind and lit up they share with any one out to find comfort in the storm.

I was gifted with so much today from my parents as I sat and read all the wonderful prayer books and daily meditations that they left for me.  I yearned to sit at the feet of my father and be blessed with his wisdom and share in his religious life, but I then realized that I still am!!!

Love the Lambs so loving and caring for Baby Jesus, and so close to Mary the Mother of God, who brought the pure unblemished Lamb into the world!  The Lamb is so very personal and special to us as we have a nun daughter, who belongs to The Community of the Lamb!  Our family of the Lamb has made our family grow by hundreds and their prayers are huge for all that we face along the narrow path!
We had a brown Advent up until now, so we are getting a white Christmas in the prairie way.

Yes, dad, gave me a beautiful gift today in my reading his book, Waiting for Christ, by St John Henry Newman - such a wonderful explanation of what Christmas will mean for us...

Let us in this season approach him with awe and love, in whom resides all perfection and from whom we are allowed to gain it.  Let us come to the Sanctifier to be sanctified.  Let us come to him to learn our duty, and to receive grace to do it.  At other seasons of the year we are reminded of watching, toiling, struggling, and suffering: but at this season we are reminded simply of God's gifts towards us sinners.  "He saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy."(Ti 3:5)  We are reminded that we can do nothing, and that God does everything.  This is especially the season of grace...

I just realized that rather than quoting the whole thing... anyone reading this can read from the page with all dad's underlines and writing in the margins and fully take to heart this amazing lesson I was blessed with in the midst of this blizzard...

I will stress one more line that really spoke to me of dad and mom and all that they have given me starting with birth and then taking me on the most amazing spiritual journey!  Coming into The Church 49 years ago tomorrow - midnight Christmas Eve!

"We come as little children to be fed and taught, 'like newborn infants' longing for 'pure spiritual milk', that by it we may 'grow up to salvation." (I Pet 2:2)
Yes, this is such a beautiful prayer, dad, thank you!  Thank you dad for this spiritual milk that is making me more full of God!

Also from dad's man, Brother Victor-Antione, today... dad left me and now my farm monastery continues with the help of this monk in New York!
Meet this humble monk, who so beautifully shares with me his life!  So prayerful and so close to Jesus!

Thanks to him each day I am close to dad knowing how he daily followed his life and words of Truth and wisdom.

O Emmanuel Antiphon for today - Dec 23

Debated putting my Christmas cards out.. will the mail woman come in a white out?  I can barely see the trees in my grove just out my window right now... not likely.  Please don't blow away!
Even worse now...
Mary in the first storm of winter.  We will have a white Christmas now.

Jesus, I love you and long to be more full of God!  I am nothing without you!  May I die to self so that you may live in me.  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah

7 years ago Maria and with their 3 kids - they are currently expecting their 7th this next spring!  They are in the midst of a wonderful family gathering. So excited for their family Christmas with ALL of Joe's family together.

On Jan 5th they will board a plane... all 8 of them and arrive here on the farm for a week which will include our first ever Verly Christmas Camp in our heated shop on the farm!!!  Be still my heart, and hope and pray for these famous fake plans to come to truth!
So close and so many graces coming our way!  Bless-bless, Barbara

Some "out of this world" light displays are at times visible in Michigan. The most colorful are the Northern Light or Aurora Borealis
