St Mother Teresa of Calcutta Feast day today!/Labor Day with my hard working farmer - "is it lawful to do good on the sabbath..."

Grandma called upon to have the joy of being with these two while the others including mom, dad, grandpa and the older 6 were out rounding up cows to put into a new pasture for a month.  It was a glorious day so we went to the apple tree, garden and then to the swing and the trampoline.  LOVE this precoius keepsake!  
Needless to say there was a wonderful breeze making the day wonderful!  Tom loved the apple I peeled so that he could hold it and eat it on his own.

The crew getting ready to finish up the fence on a glorious day.   We are realizing that the help is going to be gone to school tomorrow.  Sigh - we sure love our help on the farm from our young farm family!

I have been having some time with hubby over the holiday weekend.  I thought that it would be a quiet weekend of work, so this has been kind of unexpected.  We had a late supper at the local Mexican restaurant - one of our favorite places to go on date night.  Then we walked back and forth across the Marshall bridge that goes nowhere...

Joy is starting Kindergarten tomorrow - the first thing she said when we sat behind them at mass - "I go to school in 2 days."  with a worried look on her sweet face.  No doubt she is excited along with being nervous.  I took this starting school picture by this beautiful arrangement on the altar.
Out with hubby today checking on the new pasture and filling up the water tanks.  With the drought we are having to haul water with the water truck.  
4 tanks for the 63 cows that are now eating the grass on this new pasture.
LOVE to spend time watching my hunky husband doing all the work that he does.

Peaceful and content when they had their calves taken away from them less than a week ago now.  

Sister Paula and hubby Bill celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary yesterday along with Brother, Dan, and wife Angela having their 40th!

Teddy the dog and baby Thomas are happy to see each other even when Teddy licks his face, hands and feet!  
The eating tree is good for eating now.  
Too much fun on a glorious day with grandma.  Tomorrow it will be just Ruth and Tommy sharing their days and work on the new Airbnb project in town.

She would drag him by his feet back for more jumping, and he would crawl back to the edge.
New fun times as Tom is growing up and will be one in November, and walking around then too.  These months have flown by.  Ruth's #7 baby is not that much of a baby anymore.  She has a new companion to join her in all her work and adventures now - baby Tom! 

Pat and I shared morning prayer this morning along with the Gospel from Luke 6 about Jesus healing the man with the withered hand, and the pharisees watching to see if he would "work on the sabbath."  Our discussion was how Jesus reminded them that they would lead their livestock to water on the Sabbath, and Pat shared that those Jews that had to milk cows on the Sabbath would disengage the way they would measure the amount of milk they would give and that they would cut back on feeding them more simply.  Still there was no way of not working as they must be milked morning and night without fail. Such interesting conversation when your hubby is a well versed farmer with a wealth of knowledge!   

The scribes and the Pharisees watched him closely
to see if he would cure on the sabbath
so that they might discover a reason to accuse him.
But he realized their intentions
and said to the man with the withered hand,
“Come up and stand before us.”
And he rose and stood there.
Then Jesus said to them,
“I ask you, is it lawful to do good on the sabbath
rather than to do evil,
to save life rather than to destroy it?”
Looking around at them all, he then said to him,
“Stretch out your hand.”
He did so and his hand was restored.  Luke 6
Her feastday today - 6 years ago we were all gathered at Nancy's in KC for Labor Day and this day was her Cannonization.  So well deserved!  
Humility is the name of our journey with Jesus!
Building the Mackinaw Bridge in 1955!  Today my brother and wife walked across the bridge as they close it on Labor Day for people to walk across.  They walked it on their honeymoon 40 years ago and now 7 times since.   Happy Anniversary Dan and Angela and Paula and Bill!  
A memory from 2 years ago - Pat had driven out to Washington to bring Maria and her 6 here for some days!  Laughing with George and Hector about a pancake eating contest going on!  
Gathered for pancakes 2 years ago - my dad was living with me and kept to his room with all this craziness going on in the house.
Now with hubby today as he medicated the water for the calves that were just weaned off their mother cows.  Pat is so happy at how well they are doing, and they were very peaceful and "content" just as their mothers are.

Coming for a drink- we put antibiotics in the water to help them stay healthy.  
A good way to keep them medicated to add it to their drinking water.
150+ calves that are now going to be fed to slaughter in May next year.  Their mother cows are pregnant with next year calves - the cycle continues.

Dan and Angela relaxing on the beach on our beloved Inland Sea - Lake Michigan.  They deserve it after their walk on the bridge this morning.  Dan shared that he has been swimming each day in the Big Lake, and sadly they head back home to St Croix Falls, WI in the morning.  I am so grateful that they shared their time there with me.  I miss my time on the Big Lake so much, and my grandkids are always asking me when we can "go back to Michigan."  Someday... Bless-bless, Barbara and the 54 - 34 with us and 20 in heaven.

Most merciful Father, thank you for this day of work with all its achievements as well as its  burdens.  Thank you for all the successes, the challenges, and even the difficulties that it brought to me.  Your Son once said to His Apostles, "Come by yourselves to an out-of-the-way place and rest a little." Thank you for this gift of rest.  May this time be a chance for me to renew my gratitude for all your blessings.  In your great compassion and generosity, please be mindful of those who are out of work.  And help me to do a better job tomorrow.  I ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
