Mary proclaimed... The Mother of God at the Council of Ephesus (431)

Sweet corn day was awash with good coversation and the grandkid factor !  They would run in for handfulls of the wonderful yellow hand full of sunshine and raiu!  This summer with the wonderful growing season... the ears were big and full and sweet! It was a "Family sweet corn day" without the two men... Pat and Paul were busy at the fair... but instead we had my son in law, Joe, here to run the cutting board...Today is the feast day of ST Mary Major Bascilica in Rome... there are 4 major bascilicas and when we visited our daughter, Maria, studying there in 2003... we visited all 4 of them.  This one was dedicated to the honor of the holy Mother of God!  How can there be any question in this title for her?  She bore Christ - God made Man into the world and continues to do this in our hearts and souls each day of our lives!  Come dear Mother... hold us close to your heart filled with love for your wonderful Son!Family canning and freezing days are hard work but so wonderful to share the job together... we accomplish so much and share the conversation and work ethic with those little ones at our knees!  It is also nice to now be working over at my daughter's house...the kids have their toys and grandma can leave some of the mess behind for Ruth to finish up...  These are my 2 year old grandkids... Therese belongs to Maria and Joe and David belongs to Ruth and Paul... They so enjoy to get along and then want the same thing and all changes for a brief moment...Big cousin/sister... 4 year old Mary... helped keep the 2 year olds busy and entertained and the three posed with corn... there was plenty of that... so no arguments there!I appologize about the sweet corn juice on the camera lens.... it was everywhere!  WE were all a sticky and tired mess but have over 100 quarts of sweet corn after a day of work!  That will be wonderful to enjoy... especially in those cold winter months!   It's soo good!In June my rose bush had just burst into bloom... The grandkids gathered around to touch and see the splendor!  I remember times that there would be one single rose clinging there to show me that my prayers were close to our Lord in heaven...  This is true always and no rose on a bush needs to be there to make it true, but it is special to walk past this bush and feel that closeness and answer to prayers...In the hectec pace of our lives after returning from our weekend retreat... there are many things that have touched me and I just had to let go by, but one thing is still there and needing to be shared as I close this rambling mess for today... The Gospel of Tuesday was Matt 14: 22-36...yes, it was our 32 anniversary that day and Pat, John, Maria and I managed to gather at the breakfast table for morning prayer.   Part of that sharing every morning includes the Gospel... this one is where Jesus terrifies the disciples by walking to them across the water, and then he tells Peter to come to him on the water.. .. he starts to sink and the Lord "stretched out his hand and caught him, and said to him, 'O you of little faith, why did you doubt?' " Then it ends in the next paragraph with something that I had not realized was here also... "People brought to him all those who were sick and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak, and as many as touched it were healed."  Wow!We were all wiping tears as we recalled that a year ago on our anniversary... we had brought John home from the hospital... after his brain biopsy followed by his first chemo!  He had been so brave, but so sick!  Unable to walk alone without his dad under his left arm... staggering like one very intoxicated as his balance center on his left side had been damaged!  We were terrified... much like Peter as we stepped out on the water and started to sink!   Jesus.. through our prayers and all those supporting us... reached out and pulled us to safety in his loving and forgiving arms!  We shared this weekend the amazing experience I had up at a gathering called Cora Jesu - Heart of Jesus.  It involved adortion, praise and worship and reconcilliation celebrated together in a powerful way with a church filled with young people on fire for their faith!  As part of it...there was a scarf around the base of the monstrance and people were invited to come forward and "touch the tassle on his cloak, and as many as touched it were healed."  The most touching sight was to see a "bride of Christ" - a religious sister of about 25 years come and have an intimate moment with her spouce!  Come!  hold onto the hem of his garment and "feel" His undying and overflowing love for you, and be healed! In the Gospel today - Matt 16: 13-23 - Jesus gives ST Peter the keys to the kingdom and makes him the "rock" upon he will build his Church!  So with the celebration of this Bascilica in Rome dedicated to the Mother of God and the Church built upon St Peter... we celebrate our wonderful amazing Church today and we are forever blessed and grow in the knowledge and love of Christ, His Holy Mother of God, all the angels and all the saints!  We are so blessed!Dear Lord, we are touched and changed by your love for us!  May we hold tightly onto your hand when we are sinking and to the tassle of your cloak when we are in need of healing!  Jesus we trust in You!  Amen and Halleluia!bless-bless, Barb
