It's a work weekend... sitting here in the early morning with the cat wanting some attention and the coffee pot whistling, and the cow TV to watch and make sure that nothing is going on in the barn, and the lights on the Easter tree glowing off to the side... yes, the Easter tree is in the house!
Herbie the cat thinks that I cut lilac branches and brought them in for him to play in and chew on... I had to wrap the lights around the stove pipe of the wood stove to make sure that I won't find it all on the floor...
The budding had started outside with the nice weather, but now with snow on the ground once again... I think that the lilacs are in shock and once again at a standstill... I just hope and pray that this doesn't hurt the wonderful lilacs that I love so much! It is definitely below freezing out there.
With Palm Sunday tomorrow - I knew that it was time, and to have it in makes me excited to know the Holy week lies ahead! Every year I made a look back at the year and all those things that make up the cross for that year... the ups and the downs and the big things that made that year what it was in our family. I am in the midst of working on this year now... I also use pictures to make a butterfly that has to do with the year also. It is wonderful to see them all adorning the Easter tree... as the leaves break open and life comes forth for all to see here in the house!
It has been a different lent as they all are... around here the calving is always a part and there are definitely ups and downs with that...lately it has been more challanging. Pat had lost not a one calf all calving season, and within two days he lost two! So that really has been hard. He right away bought a calf to put on one of the cows, but it wasn't going for it much. So when he went out and discovered that a calf had died in birth - probably born backwards... he took the calf and put it on that cow, because the sooner you do that after birth the more likely they will think that it is their calf and take it. It worked!
It has also been different to not be sharing it with John... last year he was here with us recovering from his stem cell transplant, and out helping Pat here and there. WE then had Maria and the kids here with us for 4 months, so it has just seemed different to have our empty nest. It is great to see John happy and healthy - please lift him up in prayer today for a test that he is taking this morning... his entire summer internship depends on him passing this test! He is very worried! 
I must be going - Lord, thank you for the little day to day things in our lives that make us turn to you. We need you and are struggling along when we think we can do it alone. Thank you for the gift of Lent and may this Holy Week bring us to your Easter Joy after passing through the Cross of Salvation! Jesus, we trust in you! Amen and Halleluia
