Out on a brisk evening with the kids, while Pat is out raking corn stalks into winrows, so that he can bale more corn stalk bales... I started this morning sharing how St Luke takes me back to my Catholic roots. As a new Catholic... I was introduced to the idea of Saints, when I was told that I would need to choose a patron saint to name on my confirmation day. I had decided while working as a lab charter at HCMC that I would like to think about being a nurse... I had never thought of it before, so I then got trained as a nursing assistant and started working on the men's medical floor. How I loved it!
As I was a nursing student now at St Catherine's, and St Luke was a physicain who wrote a lot about women in his Gospel... most especially about Our Lady in the first 2 chapters... I thought he would be a good patron saint. Walking up with my siblings and parents at a huge adult confirmation at the Cathedral in St Paul... I was confirmed with the name Luke! So I became known as Barbara Luke in my early Catholic days... Pat's sister, Ratera, through whom I met my Most Cherished Cross, Pat... still calls me Barbara Luke! He has been a special friend to walk with me, and just coming back from my special three days working a retreat... it is a delight to think of him in a special way today!
My Jesus, I love you and thank you for the army of saints that are always with us on this journey. I am filled with joy and gratitude to St Luke for sharing so many graces with me. He watches over me with my caring for the sick, as well as the beauty of his LIVING WORD in the Gospel according to St Luke. Jesus, I trust in you! ST Luke, pray for us. Amen and Halleluia!

"Alone of the evangelists St Luke, the 'beloved physician', preserves some of Jesus' best known stories of God's merciful and healing love for all peoples, whether respected or despised. Among them are the parables of the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son." see http://www.magnificat.com/
