Simple hearts, bruised, wiping feet with my hair... Monday of Holy Week

Back on Ash Wednesday - the beginning of the 40 days of Lent - John administering the ashes to his grandma Anna.  Yes, she has stabilized quite a bit, but we see her getting a bit weaker and more tired... a gentle fading.  After working the weekend at the nursing home combined with the experience of Pat's mom on hospice, as she walks into the sunset of her life, as well as the servings of humility I am given on a regular basis... the words from prayer and the scriptures for today of smallness and weakness and simplicity came out to me loud and clear!  No longer painful for me but very visible are two large hand size bruises on both hips from a cow that rammed me into the fence a week back.  The first reading talking about the bruised reed he shall not break, and a smoldering wick he shall not quench... I have grasped you by the hand; I have formed you, and set you as a covenant of the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes of the blind, to bring out prisoners from confinement, and from dungeon, those who live in darkness.  Isaiah 42:1-7 The first reading from mass today read all around the world in every Catholic Church!  Don't we all experience that we turn to Jesus in our weakness?  That is when we need him, so may we always be weak and bruised and lowly!
After John had ministered to her - she in turn reaches out to John and touches him in a most loving way - the head that has been through so much with a year long battle against brain cancer in his quest to find Faith and be healed and now the new humble John!

The Gospel is amazing!  The scene from John 12 - A meal shared in the home of the risen from the dead, Lazarus!  His two sisters are there - Martha is serving the meal and once again Mary is tending to her Lord in a most amazing humble and beautiful way!  Filling the house with the "fragrance of the oil" with which she had anointed the feet of Jesus, The Son of God!  Then she wipes them with her hair!  So personal and loving and humble to be down on the floor and to be wiping the feet of the Savior with her hair!  I can so see myself doing this for my Jesus, who has touched me so tenderly and personally in my lifetime!  The tears are welling up as I recall how he has touched me so powerfully and I have his fingerprint upon me...  I could share once again my stories but I will just share the many links which tell it all... my conversion to The Church along with my entire family - all 13 of us 43 years ago!  http://familysoulstory.blogspot.com/p/the-amazing-story-of-13-becoming.html  My marriage to Patrick and how he set our foundation upon the rock of being open to LIFE and raising LIGHTS for the world - http://familysoulstory.blogspot.com/p/my-most-cherished-cross-patrick-gerard.html  John' healing from brain cancer through The Church and prayer - http://familysoulstory.blogspot.com/p/johns-cancer-stories.html  The healing of grandson, Patrick, born dead and brought back to life through The Church and prayer - http://familysoulstory.blogspot.com/p/the-story-of-little-lamb-grandson.html  And so much more!
2 1/2 year old Rose Ida with her ashes on Ash Wednesday and now we are entering Holy Week.  This morning as we shared morning prayer, John yelled out "Hallelujah!"  I said that we are still not there yet - "But I am so excited for this powerful week!"  Part of our excitement it knowing that next weekend we will be in Kansas City with our Hallel and her Community here in the U.S.   John and I and Mary will be leaving early on Saturday and try to get there to share lunch and the afternoon with Hallel/Susan!  Then the huge tribe of us will be there for Easter Sunday shared in so much JOY and excitement... there will be 8 of the 12 grandkids and 6 of us adults.  Pat will have to stay behind with the cows and calves and come later in the week when Paul can be here to watch them.

From morning prayer this morning - Psalm 116 - The Lord protects the simple hearts; I was helpless so he saved me.  I have found this so true in my lifetime - some of my most helpless times were when I had my hip and knee replaced.  I was crying to Susan on the phone - she was with her order in France- "I am so weak and worthless. I can do nothing... this is the worst ever!"  "But mom, when we are weak is when we turn to Jesus."  "Well, than I want to be weak always!"  Of course, this is perfectly portrayed in the poem Footprints in the Sand...

So powerful to think of the Lamb in the arms of his Good Shepherd!

Jesus, I am so very grateful for all the times that I am weak and small and bruised and simple and humble and lowly and little and lowly and nothing in the eyes of those around me and sick and all the ways that keep me needing you and looking to you in all of my life!  May I never get filled with myself and think that I am going along well without you... I NEED YOU, MY JESUS!  I love you with my life and am so grateful that I want to fill the house with the aroma of the oil I anoint your feet with and wipe them with my hair to show you in some small and humble way how grateful I am for your unconditional LOVE and forgiveness no matter how bad I have been and how much I have sinned against you and those around me.  I lay all my burdens at your feet in the confessional and leave knowing that you spoke the words of forgiveness to me and told me to go and sin no more.  Help me to love as you have loved me - "Wounded, I will not cease to love."  So hard to do, yet you showed us as the Lamb led to the slaughter for us!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen
John with the first calf about 7 weeks ago - we now are close to 110 of them here safely, and frisking around healthy and happy!  A big job with the end in sight!
Bless-bless, Barbara Luke

There is only one anointing that is strong enough to meet death and that is the anointing of the Holy Spirit, the love of God.  There is, then, something that is both exemplary and lasting in Mary's anointing of Jesus at Bethany.  It was above all a concern to keep Christ alive in this world and to oppose the powers that aimed to silence and kill him.  It was an act of faith and love.  Every such act can have the same effect. (Pope Benedict XVI)  May we bring this love and service into our own domestic Church/family!
