St Luke - brings us Mary!/"A heart transplant"/Fall work and prayer go hand in hand- finding peace in stressful times

Luke and Barbara Luke praying for "great-grandpa"

A year ago on the Feast of St Luke my father showed us that death was close. He passed out and appeared to be dying as we got him in his Sunday clothes.  He lived another 5 days here in our farm monastery!
4 years ago the two Lukes in green!
The two Lukes... Yes, I am Barbara Luke from when I chose St Luke as my patron Saint as a 20 year old convert to The Catholic Church.  He was a physician and I was in nursing school, but most of all I loved how we are allowed to know Mary, the Mother of God, through his wonderful amazing Gospel!

Family Soul Story - Choose Life!: Our marriage stories - "The world needs LIGHTS!"

Family Soul Story - Choose Life!: The amazing story of the 13 becoming Catholic!

How I loved reading dad's monk, Brother Victor, today!  How he beautifully put into words what drew me to St Luke as my patron Saint as a new Catholic!  I am truly lifted up to have him to help me on my journey in this world.  Each day in The Church has been the greatest of blessings to me!  Yes, St Luke "lifts" me up to keep my gaze on heaven forever with Mary and Jesus!

Yes, I love how St Luke allows us to know and love our Mother of Heaven and earth intimately!  She is my closest companion and fills me with peace in the midst of the stress and chaos that comes with my life.   The rosary prayer brings me PEACE with the PRAYER!

Oh my heart!  It was 2 years ago that Nancy and I went to spend MEA with her sister, Little Sister Hallel, and her kids and I in Kansas City.  Such a blessing we have to share in her life of prayer and dishes!
Dimples and Little Sister blue apron - Bernadette will be 9 in a few weeks a month before she will welcome her new baby sister!
Talk about basking in the LIGHT - Lumen Christi/LIGHT of Christ Monastery is just 6 hours from our door to theirs.  A half a day journey to spend time with our Community of the Lamb  - "Wounded, I will never cease to love."  Such powerful words to live by after a difficult fall on the farm.
Ruth and I were the bale pick up team for 2 days - total of 680 bales for bedding and feed this winter!
I fit in Mary's home swim meet with Ruth and kids... Ruth at work on her new baby boy's Christmas stocking.  The hours she puts into making these works of art- keepsakes for each of her 7 kids!  Every spare minute is put to use!
My favorite swimmer - Mary!  LOVE Joy's JOY!
Start on the bales as the sun comes up and lights up the flock of birds in the pasture - flocking up to fly away for the cold Minnesota winter.
Around and around for 2 days - 32 to a round = 22 rounds.  It was like a dance with rosary beads as my companion...  Should have been plenty of time to get my 10 decades done, but there were those distractions to deal with.  Still I found a peaceful place in that tractor seat from time to time.
The weather was glorious!  Cows on stalks around the farm were curious of all the coming and going.
The wall of bales!

Amazing Ruth!  How I look up to her work ethic and positive attitude and wonderful farming sense.  I was notorious for stopping about 10 feet too short most of the time.  Ruth on the other hand was always just right for the loading of the bale.
Lined up to be unloaded. 32 bales at a time.
Joy road along with grandpa on his extra seat and brought us some smiles at some stressful times.
Only one load in the dark...
Teamwork!
Joy in front of the wall - to me it looks like a castle of sorts.
A sunny selfie with our load of bales - having some fun to pass the time with my 4 year old Joy!  Hearing about her day at preschool.  "I had the job of turning off the lights for lunch."  Sweet!
Ending our second day with all the bales in before sunset.  There were challenges here and there for sure, but we did it!  The following day was Sunday and we could celebrate with mass and our family brunch on the farm!

Last night John and my hours of Adoration overlap and we pray together.  There was a prayer for some hearts to be changed from anger to happiness and peace and actual ability to love rather than belittle and strike out in anger.  "A spiritual heart transplant" was our shared prayer....  So to read this today!
Pope Benedict XVI left for me by my mother... don't we all need this to happen to us?  Yes, it is wonderful to read about how we can allow that "new heart" to take root in us and to become our true heart!  "Great stretches of land of Catholic culture where the Creators design is lived out."  How I love to have this Truth lived out in our domestic Church/family where we need to love those that are the closest to us better!
Love this of St Luke in The Magnificat today!  How appropriate for this old farmwife to have St Luke's symbol be a bull!  My husband's prayers for me to come into The Church once again pointed out to me!

George and Hallel 2 years ago over MEA in KC at Lumen Christi!  LOVE!  Now Hallel will have 2 new nieces and a nephew to meet hopefully in the next year sometime.  A mother can hope that she will come to KC for Advent or for Lent.
Always including the kids in her life and prayer!
Sweet Berna doing the dishes surrounded by blue smiles!
Talk about smiles - 9 year old Rose Again and 17 month old Birdie Barbara after mass!  These two are truly Verly girls and remind me of my girls!  So special to have that gift!
Belly tickles...
Only 3 of everything are enough for me!
Jude in boy heaven with all the cars and tractors of the big boys in the farm!
We love to share our family brunch with JOY after mass each Sunday!  29th Sunday of Ordinary time- "who ever wishes to be great among you will be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all.  For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and give his life for a ransom for many."  Jesus to us in Mark 10:45  The Gospel on Sunday!

Today an Hallel Psalm speaks of how loved we are and although weak and lowly and sinful we need Jesus!
The LORD is just in all his ways
and holy in all his works.
The LORD is near to all who call upon him,
to all who call upon him in truth.
R.    Your friends make known, O Lord, the glorious splendor of your Kingdom.  Psalm 145 - an Hallel Psalm of total praise!
So special after brunch for Luke to share his wonderful story and picture about their summer vacation to the Boundary Waters!  Good Job LUKE!
Grandpa, Jude, Joy and Rose doing a puzzle together.  Jude found a puzzle piece - he is so smart!
We had our first snow a year ago... this year it looks to be about 80 degrees today and no talk of frost for a week according to farmer hubby!

Jesus, how we need you - we are weak and sinful and wounded.  May we allow that new heart we find in YOU to become a true heart which loves and forgives unconditionally as you forgive us!  May we serve without counting the cost!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
Love this from Maria!  She used a cute picture and made it her own with Our Lady and all 7 kids!
9 years ago - Patrick coming back to us!
Family Soul Story - Choose Life!: The story of little Lamb - grandson Patrick
A year ago my brother Al and his wife brought their 4 grandkids to see my dad just days before he passed away on October 23rd!
 A keepsake for sure!
Love dad's 2 thumbs up!  Bless-bless, Barbara
LOVE this - my mom had this copied in her prayer book she loved it so much!
Always good to share this sweetness!
Jesus on the altar and in our hearts, minds and souls!  LOVE to see my daughter with her spouse, Jesus Christ!  How she loves him with her LIFE/LOVE/LIGHT!
St Michael the Archangel protect us in this battle!
She was there with dad and mom last year!  No doubt she answered the thousands of times they prayed this - at least 53 times a day in their daily rosary!
5 years ago the Garveys ran into Hallel in Rome!  Small world indeed!
Princess doing the dishes - LOVE!
Captain Joseph home from Afghanistan 9 years ago to be with his family after Patrick's traumatic birth!  He is the picture of health to this day!
