Prodigal daughter...

Standing in the sun keeping warm in the brisk breeze out of the East yesterday while Pat bedded the cows and calves.  This is a great weekend filled with family and the craziness of calving - never really knowing what is going to happen next.  Pat is in his glory with two son in laws, a son, and two grandsons out there following him around and "helping."  The smallest grandson, 9 month old Augustine, is up for his morning nap and getting rested up to go out and meet his first calves.  First in a long succession of many calves that become cows and mother of other calves and it goes on and on!  How Pat loves to have his family around him doing what he loves most - farming!   It is a great life for combining family time with work.  Farming is a life not really a job, and we are seeing that our kids are appreciating it more and more now that they are grown with families of their own.  Truly a special way to bring family together in a life of caring for animals and the land... feeding the world!
Super cute and gentle Snowball eating the corn leaves out of the bedding tomorrow as Pat was bedding the barn.  The Gospel for today is the amazing Prodigal Son from Luke 15... I have recently read an amazing book called the Prodigal Daughters about 17 women about my age, who got caught up in the time after Vatican 2 and for some reason lost their Catholic faith, and then all of them have an amazing story of return!  My story although in the same time frame was of a fish swimming up against the stream... I along with my entire family - all 13 of us - converted to the Catholic Church 40 years ago!  Just as many in the U.S. were leaving the True Church, I was finding it and every day since has been a romantic adventure of pure LOVE and LIFE!  Yet, I admit that there is still the elements of the Prodigal Daughter in me.  I squander the inheritance I have been given with sin and omission of the good that I should do daily!  I turn to Him daily and fall on my knees in prayer with the intercession of Our Lady daily with my many decades of the rosary.  I find such a welcoming with open arms and the feast of the fatted calf is laid out before me in prayer!  I feel the ring on my finger and the beautiful robes surround me as the rosary beads pass through my fingers and the I gaze at YOU through they eyes of My Most Heavenly Mother!

Mary just colored and drew this picture of herself with her Snowball and Snowflake!  JOY!  I have family all around me, so this Prodigal daughter is called to leave the computer and be with my special wonderful farm family!  Jesus, we love you and thank you for the unconditional love that greets us each day as we fall on our knees before you... we are so sorry for our sin and our weakness, but when we are weak is when we realize that we need you!  Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Halleluia!

Snowball and Snowflake without Mary... I like the one of Mary the best!  Bless-bless, Barb
