Yes, Hallel left for France to join her beloved Community of the Lamb 12 years ago on Sept 11, 2008!! Yesterday we got a gift phone call from her on her birthday from France! So wonderful to have her sharing her life with us and ours with her on speaker phone in our kitchen - even hubby, farmer Pat, and her aunt Angela and Uncle Dan were able to speak with her! Such a Holy Spirit moment in time as it is quite miraculous that we were all gathered around the phone at 4p in France and 10a in US! She described her birthday celebrations with her family there. Always with the centerpiece of Jesus in mass and adoration!
My brother, Alan, was also there to share in our most important time in our family!
How blessed were we all by our "yes" to sharing in this time with our nun!
In many ways we continue to see this happening now with my father living here with me. At our 5 month landmark a couple weeks ago... dad's first comment was "not many have come to see me here in those 5 months." Such a sad loss for so many in my family missing out on the wonderful walking into the sunset of his life by my father! He is so sharp and so faith filled and as we just shared a wonderful overnight and visit from my brother and his wife - it was so special!
Combining at the same time of emptying on the fly!
We went over and picked a bag of tomatoes at Ruth's along with beets, peppers and apples! A couple jars of our wonderful tomato soup put a big smile on her face! How we love to share our bounty on the farm! Feeding more than our 7 families that we can for is our JOY!
My brother, Dan, along with dad watching Ed combine now Paul's field by town. Just a few more days and the bean harvest will end. Then on to corn...Pat smiling as he hears my father and Angela praying for "Pat Verly and all the farmers" and the whole world. How we pray for the farmers to be safe and for the seeds planted to yield a good harvest! Today being the Gospel of the sower and the seed from Luke 8!
And some seed fell on good soil, and when it grew,
it produced fruit a hundredfold.” Luke 8
I also had the delight of speaking to Postulant Kayla in KC this morning asking for prayers from the Little sisters and Brothers for a need. Also that they would get word to Susan/Hallel in France and the rest of the Community! So many powerful and uplifting prayers to have always there for our needs! We are lifted up and blessed with so much to help us down the narrow path as we carry/drag our Most Cherished Cross to follow our Lord!
So much peace and trust fills me as we sit down to pray each day on our peaceful porch! Such a gift to me to share this time with my wonderful father! This is our JOY and it allows us to get over the rough patches of our shared time together. When you are together 24/7 there are those times of trial and impatience. With the help of hospice we are taking each day as it presents itself to us. But always we interweave prayer throughout the framework of that day. Yes, we are sharing a form of religious life in this farm monastery.
I am called upon to help out like yesterday following Ruth on the tractor and give her a ride home, and then bring Joy here for a nap on my peaceful bunk beds in our quiet home! That was certainly a haven for the little ones when we had a huge family gathering over Labor Day and the week before. That peaceful haven is special and needed for the babies and their naps. All are happier and grandma loves when all in quiet in the midst of total craziness of 19 grandkids all together... but what JOY!
Our view as we pray each day! Dad loves to look out on the prairie and watch the corn grow and ripen, the clouds that each day holds, and the white trucks that shine in the sun over on Hwy 59. "Look at that white truck, and there's another one, and 3 in a row!!! Wow!" Our humble and quiet and farm life is giving my dad some exciting times as he walks into the sunset of his life! He is easily amused! The 19 with my 95 1/2 year old father two weeks ago! How I cherish this! A miraculous picture indeed! All 31 with Hallel and Joseph added to reveal what my heart, mind and soul knows to be Truth! We are united in all that truly matters in this world - Faith/Family/Farm! How my heart leaps for Joy!!
How I had been waiting for this moment... a picture of LIFE with 3 1 1/2 year old boys that are just 6 weeks apart. A bit different than when they were in the wombs on their wonderful mothers in France 2 years ago! LOVE/LIFE/LIGHT! Bless-bless, Barbara
