Hallel with George over a month ago on her home visit. Black eyed Susan would always be blooming on her birthday and appropriate as her namesake - as she was Susan Angela and still legally is Susan.
Today is Susan/Hallel's 35th birthday! As I was reading last night the mass readings for today... I suddenly realized that today was Sept 18th and it was our youngest daughter's birthday! The Gospel did not disappoint as there was the only one of two places in the Bible where I could show Susan her name - well kind of!
Accompanying him were the Twelve
and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities,
Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,
Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza,
Susanna, and many others
who provided for them out of their resources. Luke 8
With her sisters in the Bible - Ruth, Nancy (Ann), Maria (Mary), Susan would ask where she was in the Bible. I would point out this verse in Luke 8 where she was one of the women that traveled with Jesus and cared for them. Also the story of Daniel saving the Susanna in the OT from being stoned to death... Look it up! Yes, it is a bit of a stretch with the extra "na" on the end, but obvious that it is a version of Susan.
She was born in the midst of my sister, Mary Susan's struggle with cancer. I spent a lot of her pregnancy sitting in the barn crying for my sister, who had recently married her dairy farmer and they had a baby girl, Audrey. It made a lot of sense that there would be part of her name now with my daughter born during her last year of life on this earth. I also had her for Susan's Godmother along with her husband, Gerry. Mary died when Susan was 8 months old, and now prays for her daughter, and Goddaughters from heaven - she is also Nancy's Godmother!
A surprise home visit in the midst of covid in July! My father hadn't seen Susan since she left for France 12 years ago! It was a wonderful few days with family!
Dad out watching the beans come out across the road... a chance of a lifetime as he is living the farm life now for 5 months!

8 eggs from Ruth's 13 chickens are fun to have! This morning we had fresh farm eggs and duck egg French toast! Dan and Angela left with tomatoes, beets, peppers, apples, and some home made tomato soup! LOVE Farm life and sharing our bounty!
Mom joined us for supper last night - Dan and Angela treated us to ribs from the Hitching Post and french fries for dad. Thank you!
Very rare during harvest - Pat stopped in for supper and a visit! Just ask dad this does not happen often any day, but during harvest - never! WE love to have company come any time! Dad was thrilled indeed!
The chickens were freed from their coop, and visited us this morning. Angela loved to see them - "I am truly French! You see chickens everywhere there!"
A candle lit for Hallel on her birthday! We got a surprise call this morning from France! It was such a treat to have her on speaker and talk to her Aunt and Uncle, who had come to France with the family for her final vows 2 years ago in France! Wonderful to hear about her life these last few weeks and how they celebrated her today with mass and Fr Jean Claude spending some time with her at breakfast and then a dessert parade at lunch for her special day! Soon we will hear where she will be this next year! So hoping that she can return to KC!
It is time to pray for Father and I am sure that it will have Hallel in there on the chaplet and always my 4th decade of the rosary is for her!
Jesus, thank you for our wonderful family and all the special moments we are given as we share our journey of Faith/Family/Farm! Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Hallelujah
