Out pouring of LOVE - dad had just been put into his hospital bed as they walked into the door and they all gathered around to help him get settled and comfortable. Paula helped me get the room figured out with plenty of seating close by to visit with dad.
Two RNs - my sister and her daughter, Becca!
Love to see the rosary that hung on the wall over his mother's bed after her husband, Gerard, had died. It has lasted 26 years! Mom Verly, Anna, was on hospice close to 2 years and it was always there with her... now with dad, and yes - we pray the rosary daily along with the chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3p. The last 2 days it has not happened as we have had an upheaval with dad looking like he was dying, and then coming back some.
Mom praying with us, too! The rose that dad gave her for her heavenly 71st anniversary on August 30th on top of her Deacon's wife, prayer book, the 4th station of the Cross from the forest behind the cabin on Lake Michigan - Jesus meets his mother, the snow reflection window...We know that mom is joining us in prayer, so this morning when dad was very deeply asleep after his first bed bath... I read from his well worn marked prayer book with both he and mom joining me in Spirit! Yes, I wept a lot!
It is beautiful and very early! Good thing my sister came yesterday in just some wet roads!
“Gird your loins and light your lamps
and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding,
ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks.
Blessed are those servants
whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival.
Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself,
have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them.
And should he come in the second or third watch
and find them prepared in this way,
blessed are those servants.” Matthew 12:35-38
A new way to pray together, with much emotion and tears from me - how the words of morning prayer were so powerful and REAL and Truth!
Antiphon 1..."The man whose deeds are blameless and whose heart is pure will climb the mountain of the Lord." That is you, dearest father!
Dad now is bedbound in a hospital bed. After some very scary moments over the last few days... I cannot now help him out of bed or around the house. I even asked him this morning if I could help him into his chair for breakfast, and he knew he was unable to do that any more.Reagan Marie - one of the 58 great-grandchildren that dad prays for each Monday - first and middle name, which he did yesterday!
The 4 poster bed, which was my parents when they married 71 years ago and it was old then! It is now mine and dad slept back in it for 6 months here in my home. now taken down to make room for the hospital bed.
Dad's first meal last evening in his new bed. He continues to eat small amounts which is normal for him. Sunday he missed but is now back on track... one day at a time is how we take this with prayers together and surrounded by those around the world as we Trust in Him!
Ruth and Paul added this room on about 10 years ago, and it has been so perfect for my father to have his own apartment for these last 6 months!
Eating meals in bed...
We than shared evening prayer together last night, and he did fairly well although his voice is weaker and he loses his place easier.
I am sure that he will pray with me some more, but this morning I read it aloud without him. I used his prayer book and it is marked with underlines and exclamation points, and words of praise and great excitement at the beauty of the Prayer of The Church! How dad and I have had absolutely no issues when it comes to our LOVE , LOVE, LOVE for Jesus, Mary and The Church!

and my spirit rejoices in the King of heaven.
Let all people speak of his majesty, *
and sing his praises in Jerusalem.”
Yes, father, you have lived this out to the 3rd watch and you are right there to open the door when He knocks! "I am ready to go." you are starting to say when you wake up to another day! We heard this daily from Pat's mother for most of the time she was on hospice!
My beautiful begonia that Ruth got for the Baptism of Birdie Barbara this spring - how dad and I have adored its' beauty when we would sit and pray on the porch and watch the seasons go by!
We watched the crop planted, the corn fields all around us come up and eventually get to 7 foot tall, put on an ear, turn golden, get harvested and then tilling the soil black all around us! Now snow!
How can our days here be over! How cherished will that memory be for me! You will probably find me there at 3p next year with mom and dad praying with me from above for me and the other 150 of our family - Cross Family!Just like this lovely begonia, we are all in shock!Snow on the pumpkin...Dad resting after his first bed bath this morning. I forgot from my hospice days just how tiring it can be for the patient. Lots of back and forth, and up and down.
He really loved getting that big wonderful head of hair combed! That was his ritual to do first thing in the morning before he put his cochlear implant in his ear... comb that wonderful hair that kept him looking much younger than his 95 years! Now he depends on others...
We have learned that on both ends of our lives we have to give up so much and be cared for my others! Very humbling indeed!

Ant. Praise the eternal King in all your deeds.
Ant. 3 The loyal heart must praise the Lord.
Two Antiphons from morning prayer that are true of loyal Deacon Robert Cross!

"How wonderful are the treasures which are enclosed
to receive Communion often, but with piety.
Holy Communion is the most efficacious means
of uniting one's self to God.
Always prepare yourself well for this sacred banquet.
Have a very pure heart, and watch over your tongue,
for it is on the tongue that the Sacred Host is laid.
Carry Our Lord home with you after your thanksgiving,
Visit Him often in this interior tabernacle, offering Him your homage,
Preserve carefully the sentiments of love
with which you are filled after Communion."
Italy ~ 1694-1775
To the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience they added a fourth:
to spread devotion to Christ’s passion among the faithful.

It is so powerful and comforting to know that dad had Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick just last week! LOVE the beauty and wisdom of The Church to help us on our journeys! LOVE St JPII!
