Jesus is in control in the storms of life/Trust and not take measures into our own hands/Fruits of the Spirit - "gentleness"

2012!!!  8 years ago Joseph rang the doorbell in his home, and his family leapt with JOY into his awaiting arms!

Sweet lamb, Patrick, was "the sickest baby in NICU", but made huge strides and was back home healthy and happy in a week!  So many prayers surrounded him and his family!  How we prayed and trusted and knew that the Lord was in control in the midst of this storm!

8 year old Patrick on his birthday 5 days ago!  The picture of health and very special to us!

Dad praying morning prayer this morning in his chair with Mary and Joseph and Jesus looking on.  We take one day at  a time and put our Trust in HIM!  There has been some talk about taking some extreme measures with dad, but we have decided to Trust in the Lord's plan for us, and to continue on the journey with Hospice!  I do not want to lose hospice... I am hospice through and through!
We are happy to see that some of our issues have backed off today, and realize more than ever that we have no idea how this will all play out in the long run.  As dad and I ended prayer today we shared this uncertainty and reminder that we take it as it comes one day at a time and one hour at a time and one minute at a time!  I said that maybe this won't the the last month, and dad said maybe 2 years ahead!  Who really knows but God?

Yes, we have so much to help us face in that time!  Our amazing Church gives us so much!  The prayer of The Church. Mary and her wonderful Rosary, The Saints of each day and our personal saints like St Ignatius, St John, Blessed Solanus Casey, The Sacraments including his healing in Reconciliation, and giving food for the journey with Eucharist, and the Anointing of the Sick!

Hubby, Farmer Patrick , is spending lots of time waiting in lines these days - I bring him a meal and get to visit with him as the mountain of corn is growing with the dry corn coming in by truck after truck!
While he is waiting we visit more to pass the time!  I have used him for a sounding board about how deeply and strongly I feel about the hospice philsophy... that most especially when you are 95 1/2 that you allow nature to take it's course and do not take matters into your own hands.  There is a peace and gentleness in trusting and with the help of hospice to meet needs that come up... you pass from this life into the next.

We are both extremely happy with all that we have received every step of the way with Hospice.  It is a thing of great beauty to my father and I.

Today in the first reading from Paul to the Galatians the fruits of the Spirit are laid out.  My father has pointed out to me quite pointedly that "gentleness" is something I need to work on.  He even finds fault at time with my inflection while reading morning and evening prayer with him.
In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, generosity,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Galatians 5

I see that he is best content with plain, unflavored, small and gentleness.  It must be old age thing... I try to slow down and read more quietly even.  Yes, there are times with frustrations that I can speak forcefully and quickly and loudly in the day to day 24/7 that we have done now for 6 months!

Today as dad ended his prayer to the Sacred Heart, St Michael the Archangel, and the Holy Spirit along with our family of 140+ dad repeated the fruits of the Holy Spirit saying for my benefit and some annoyance - "gentleness, gentleness, gentleness"  Looking in my direction.  Sigh!

Pat was describing the long lines snaking around waiting to dump their loads of corn.  The mountain has grown much taller and it is literally a mountain of GOLDen corn!
The top of dad's dresser in his room... a visual reminder of all those that are assisting us on this journey!  Of course, we never forget my mother, who has been gone 7 months now.  She died in a day just exactly a month before all the doors closed in the Cities for dad and he came here to live!

The last week or so it looked like we could see the end coming, but now once again we have had a reprieve and have a sense of relief and confusion.  Yes, that can be a hard part of hospice where you don't do the testing to discover just what is going on -  Why?  Because the testing would be a trial and take a lot out of dad.  Also we would not take any extreme measures to correct it anyways with his age and declining health that would be detrimental.  You are really called upon to give over control and trust and with the help of hospice meet each problem as it presents itself with his comfort and peace of mind always our goal.

Dad looking good as he voted the other night!  He is so sharp of mind other than some fuzziness we are dealing with at times.  That is what makes letting him go so hard, yet our wonderful hospice nurse did say these words of wisdom and truth to me yesterday... "But wouldn't it be a blessing to say that he was sharp of mind to the end?  Especially with your mother and her dementia, you had to watch her decline in that way."  YES!  So True and Wise!
The total gift of dad, John and I sharing prayer together!  Our JOY!

Jesus, each day I am blessed with new insight and wisdom on this journey, and yes death is a part of LIFE for each of us!  The dance of life is very much one step forward and two steps back with my elderly father as he approaches the end of his days.  May I die to self so that I may gently love and serve without counting the cost.  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah

Love to see the Minnesota chickens in their royal castle in Kansas City now at the Little Brothers! Some of  my 13 here might have to go there someday soon, and fill the castle with more egg layers to feed them.  The Little Brothers also said that it is a good way to reach out to the neighborhood... they are very special and cute too!  Bless-bless, Barbara

Quite something indeed!
Very special to share this connection with our Community of the Lamb!  Also know of their prayers and that of Hallel for her grandfather, Deacon Robert!  The wind beneath our wings indeed!  I know that our huge family counts on dad's prayers also.  We do our work every day!
