Dad on the altar of the Catholic Church in Colman, SD in 1998... 22 years ago dad and mom lived 90 minutes from my door to their door in the rectory of St Peter's Catholic Church in Colman, SD. Dad, as a permanent deacon, was asked by Bishop Dudley to serve there as Administrator for 3 years in farm country much like we have here!
A tiny farming community in South Dakota allowed my parents to experience the life I have here on the farm first hand. It was about this time that my father voiced the prophetic words that if every anything happened to mother that he would come and live with me on the farm!
My beautiful mother just 2 weeks before her very quick death in a day. She fell in their assisted living at 8a and was dead from a broken hip and blood clots to the lungs by 5p that same day! Just enough time for me to get to her bedside and have siblings call and give her their loving goodbyes and for my sister to bring my father to be at her bedside , and "watch her sweet lips take their last breath."The rose dad gave her for their 71st anniversary on August 30th on top of her prayer book, which I now use often to pray with my deacon father morning and evening prayer as we share religious life in our farm monastery here. Yes, my father came here a month after mom died... after a procedure at Vets - his assisted living would not let him come back, so I brought him to the farm! His prophecy came to Truth!
My father is questioning why he is still here after a brush with death on Sunday. He is now in a hospital bed and dependent upon me do a lot of his cares. This morning he combed his hair and brushed his teeth and I shaved him.
The Crop is officially out! Brother in law got the last load combined at midnight last night after the inches of snow blew off! We celebrate having the crop now out of the fields!
Meticulous with his hair - full head of hair at 95 1/2 years old.

Dad would not be out of his bed without the help of my strong husband, farmer Pat! He has left in the dark and returned in the dark at night for weeks, but now with the snow and the end of getting the crop combined - he is here a bit more and can give me a hand and dad!
Out of his bed and in his chair thanks to my hunky strong husband Pat!

Dad and I prayed the office this morning together! He got winded here and there, but contributed much more than yesterday! He gave me his blessing as a deacon after we had shared the readings for today as well as morning prayer and his Sacred Heart prayer and prayer for the family! Still doing his work and ministry!
These words of St Paul to the Ephesians 3 today speak for my father as well as St Paul and millions of ministers for Christ over these 2000+ years!
"Of this I became a minister by the gift of God’s grace
that was granted me in accord with the exercise of his power.
To me, the very least of all the holy ones, this grace was given,
to preach to the Gentiles the inscrutable riches of Christ,
and to bring to light for all what is the plan of the mystery
hidden from ages past in God who created all things,
so that the manifold wisdom of God
might now be made known through the Church
to the principalities and authorities in the heavens.
This was according to the eternal purpose
that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord,
in whom we have boldness of speech
and confidence of access through faith in him." Ephesians 3
Combing that hair is a big job! I than gave him a shave for which he was most appreciative and then went to sleep, which he does a lot these days. His days and nights are mixed up unfortunately, so that is a hardship to the both of us!

I know that I am the lucky one to have him here and the "work" we share of prayer and prayer and prayer! Yesterday, I let him off the hook, but with him waking me numerous times overnight - I am expecting more out of him today and for sure more time awake!
He had a burning question this morning as to why he is still here. "Did I not share that I have gotten an assurance that Donald Trump is going to be elected, so I needed to come back?" "Dad, only the Lord knows that answer, and we just have to give the control to Him and trust."
The leaves were still on the trees and the flower boxes blooming when they got snowed on. The leaves are now on top of the melting snow rather than under the snow like a normal year. This is early!

Roses, Mary, snow with leaves... October 21st, 2020 is kind of different and early! Good thing the crop was early and out early - we got ours finished last night, and now the tillage and making sure the cows have hay to eat with the stalks covered with snow.
Jesus in the Word brought up for the Gospel to be read! Jesus in the Word is huge for The Community of the Lamb! How Hallel loves her Spouse, Jesus Christ, as she finds him in Word, Body and Blood each day!
A parting picture at the foot of the Cross a year ago as we headed back to Minnesota. My parents had just moved into Assisted living a week before, and I went to see them there for the first of many times in the 7 months they lived there together. Little did I know that the Cross would change so drastically in my life and that of my father, Deacon Robert! We are entering our 7th month of his life here with me. I am his caregiver 24/7. Lord, give me the strength, and peace and patience I need! Bless-bless, Barbara
