The Pat and Barb Verly family and their 5 children, in laws and grandkids along with many prayer warriors have been drawn together by John's cancer... sharing daily for 8 months started this blog- Family Soul Story - Our faith, family, farm and now our cancer journey called HEALING have colored and deepened our world. WE continue to share and depend on the support of our prayer warrior community, that has lowered us into the Lord's presence for His healing!
I continue to pray with dad and mom - Prayer of The Church/Prayers for rain begin - Psalm 65!
Oh my heart! My greatest JOY was the many times I was allowed to share in The Prayer of The Church each morning that I stayed with my parents in their sweet home in St Croix Falls over from 2008-2019 roughly.
They moved into Assisted Living October of 2019 in The Lodge of New Hope. I continued to visit them there for overnight complete with morning prayer shared in their special place. Suddenly mom died in a day after falling in the morning and breaking her hip! That day was March 16th.
Dad was alone and shared that "mom is praying more perfectly now for her family looking down from heaven." A month later covid was rampant and dad had a procedure done at Vets that would not allow him to return to his home in Assisted Living. He came home with me to live on the farm for the final 6 months of his life - admitted to hospice the first day here!
What JOY! He was sharp up to the end and we were able to share his Deaconate each day with morning prayer shared after breakfast and evening prayer after supper. We also had 3p rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy shared on the porch for an entire growing season!
The wonderful LIGHT filled home - it looks like it was Monday and dad was reciting his litany of the family - each one named first and middle names of his 11 children, spouses, 34 grandchildren with spouses, and now it would be 65 great grandchildren! How our family knew of their prayers and were supported and lifted up by those prayers!
2 years ago now - dad on the farm with a bouquet of my radishes. Not this year! Our garden has only been in a very short time due to the cold and wet. We had a perfect growing season the year dad was here, but last year was a drought and we are on edge with this late spring and now with the crop in we are praying for rain once again.
Psalm 65 from mass today is the prayer for perfect wonderful rains and "bountiful crops" as hubby prays for through the summers!
You have visited the land and watered it; greatly have you enriched it. God’s watercourses are filled; you have prepared the grain. R. It is right to praise you in Zion, O God. Thus have you prepared the land: drenching its furrows, breaking up its clods, Softening it with showers, blessing its yield. R. It is right to praise you in Zion, O God. You have crowned the year with your bounty, and your paths overflow with a rich harvest; The untilled meadows overflow with it, and rejoicing clothes the hills. R. It is right to praise you in Zion, O God. Psalm 65
My happy place and dad's!
Dad and I would share the Rosary each day on my porch and follow it with The Chaplet of Divine Mercy when we would pray for individuals and their health needs. A Sister in Law was going through cancer at the time and she was prayed for mightily! Also another one was in a car accident and she had our prayers also!
So special to have dad covered with the alfghan that Ruth crocheted for mom and dad and they had over their couch in the cabin. The colors of the Big Lake Michigan as the waves roll in on a windy day with the white caps dotting the water scape!
"God’s watercourses" today in the Psalm 65 made me smile as it seemed like God's Watercolors to my quick look! I am big on watercoloring with my grandkids and when I am in Michigan. Just had to share my JOY!
Radish bouquet 2 years ago - not this year.
Dad and I with Birdie Barbara on Ruth's beautiful porch 2 years ago! She just turned 2 and I am sure is watched over by her loving great-grandfather!
Pat showing dad the shop 2 years ago. His pride and joy, and dad was excited to see the farm after reading about it on my blog - there is nothing like being there in person!
Birdie smiling at him on her Baptism Day! Dad baptized all my kids including her dad, John!
Pentecost roses - Peonies gifted to me from Bobbi 2 years ago! They were in her bridal bouquet 4 years ago! The most beautiful flower of all!!
Dad seeing the wonderful sight of cows and calves out on pasture - He was very excited when the cows and calves came to eat the grass in front of our barn while we would sit on the porch and pray!
How he loved being spoiled by hospice! Getting his toenails cut and pedicure and also his hair cut once a month after his catheter was changed! Such excellent loving care and dad was smiling ear to ear. Nothing better than 6 months of such care leading to the beauty of a "natural death!"
Praying with their prayer books on their laps - dad was a Permanent Deacon in The Catholic Church for 44 years, and that means that he and mom were called to share a praye life - The Prayer of the Church morning and evening! I was gifted in sharing that with them whenever I visited!
Now that dad has left behind his prayer books for me with all the wonderful markings and sharings... I continue to pray with him! So comforting and uplifting for me!
Today in Morning prayer was all about LOVE - it was everywhere!!!
2 years ago dad was reading here, and over the years he has marked his thoughts and found LOVE!
LOVE how he speaks about The Church which he led all 13 of our family into 50 years ago and each day since has been a gift! My 6 months here with him living in the farm monastery and sharing his prayer life, which continues to this day!
A line in the closing prayer for Morning prayer this morning, too! "May we ever live in the light of your love." That is true for dad and mom now!
Deep in prayer! O Lord, how I love you and thank you for allowing this to continue to happen with my prayers joining to that of my parents now more prefectly from heaven! Please give us the rains and heat units we need for a bountiful crop! Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Hallelujah!
Dad's man, Brother Victor today is so sweet and loves to share about St Ephem and Our Lady! Also about Ox-eye daisies!
Sweetness and light!
Ox-eye daisy in ditches as we travel the roads of summer! LOVE!
A picture of beauty and JOY!
One more for good measure!
Love this from St Mother Teresa today - so true of Hallel's order, too! No hot water, no microwave, no soft beds, - they are the poor and the poor sleep on the ground and do not have even enough food! They beg for their food from the poor!
Sweet baby Joy 5 years ago.
Her hard working farmer mother heat checking 5 years ago - now she has baby Thomas to make the outside jobs more busy and demanding but she does it with a smile and great attitude of a servant! We love our farm family!!!
8 years ago - Gus and Berna soon to welcome their new brother, Dominic. They have added 3 more to a grand total of 6 kids! Our Love grows more with each new LIFE!
Yes!!! LOVE her!
Our prayer for rain last year and this!
Then why??? How has it come to taking the lives of the unborn is acceptable and promoted?
The St Michael prayer is so impotant to fight against evil all around us!
My beads are my life-line and connects me to heaven!
St Ephrem pray for us!
PRAYER! Jesus, we trust in you. Bless-bless, Barbara and the 51- 34 with us here, and 17 in heaven including mom and dad and Pat's wonderful parents!
“In 1969, when black citizens in the United States were not permitted to swim in community pools along side white people, Fred Rogers brought a black police officer to his television show and invited him to cool his feet with him in a small, plastic wading pool. Mr. Rogers then helped Officer Clemmons to dry his feet.
Remind you of anything? "After dinner, Jesus poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him." (John 13:4-5).
Mr. Rogers never openly preached on his show, despite being an ordained Presbyterian minister. Yet he preached volumes in this simple act of love. In a world seemingly filled with hatred, where you can be anything, be a Mr. Rogers.
