Two helpers arrived with their mom... 2 pails of tomatoes are now stewed in the jars. Ruth and I am amazed at how quickly we can do a small job by our standards...
These calves will join the chorus in the barn tonight as we are half way weaning the calves off the cows. There is a lot of loud bellowing from the calves that you can't see here. We are down to these and the calves out of the pasture by Paul's house.
Rose picked all the peppers that had red on them - some were hot peppers! Lilly is picking beans off the plants and eating them... we got a few meals this year. Ruth not only brought her 2 youngest, but also brought momma cat with her 7 kittens and their puppy, Holly! It was a lively canning morning around here.
Luke surrounded by dogs and a lush garden this summer after all the rain throughout the summer! I planted some big pumpkins and quite a few are really big!
It was cool to find the Beatitudes are shared by Luke as the Gospel today. Contemplating in a new way - poverty- as the first foremost beatitude is -
Blessed are you who are poor, for the Kingdom of God is yours...
Most of us don't consider ourselves poor in the sense of not having enough to get by. But it was very interesting to read a meditation on poverty being divorced from things or making things or stuff into idols that we worship.
To be poor, then, is to use each thing according to its ultimate end, not in the possession of this or that thing, but in the realization of the Kingdom of God. When we do that, we use, appreciate, and love each thing without turning it into an idol. Bishop Camisasca
How does this figure in our lives of dying to self so that we are open to the Holy Spirit's work in our lives and homes and jobs and what we buy and what we think we need to be happy in LIFE? We can live humbly and yet have all we could ever need in food, clothing, yes in entertainment and vacations, but always putting God and our Faith first, and including prayer and worship in all aspects of our life - Faith/Family/Farm!
Rose likes to use her fingers for delicate work, so picking the skins off the tomatoes are her cup of tea!

Did I say Ruth brought over the 7 kittens? They made for a interesting time in the kitchen - super cute too!

Jesus, we long to be poor, weak and sick and need you and turn to you always in our lives. When things go too well we forget about how we need you with every breath that we take and every beat of our hearts! "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!" We long to see your face in all those we meet each day - most especially in the poor and the lowly! Jesus, we trust in you. Bless-bless, Barb
