St Clare today - Happy feast day to Maria Theresa, our 3rd daughter! She chose St Clare for her patron Saint since her birthday is just 3 days from her own, and it turned out to be that she entered the Poor Clares for 5 months and discerned religious life. Such a powerful experience for us as they live behind the enclosure which separates and protects them from the distractions of the world, so that they can concentrate on prayer for the needs of that same world!
Simon and his pig walking calmly into the light...
These days are filled with family time at the fair. My time here is limited and a lot of time spent getting the pictures off my phone onto here.
Profile of Mary and her calf walking into the sunlight is pretty sweet too! It is kind of sad to see how few projects there are this year compared to when their parents showed a generation ago. It seems that kids and parents just aren't able to manage all that it takes to do the work and spend the time that it takes to work with the animals. It is a great family experience and sad to see it fading out to only a few.
Mary and Simon just a year apart in school.. show together often... Each did very well and looked calm and relaxed out there in the ring. I always felt that working with the livestock for 4H was a true way that the kids could have a positive hands on farm experience!
This one needs a caption...
Love the Gospel today about denying ourselves and taking up our cross to follow after Jesus is very much what our Saint Clare did as she was beautiful and rich and left it all behind to go barefoot and beg for her food! Watching my two girls leave for religious life with only a small bag of possessions really made me pause and for a period of time not desire any new material things. After Maria left to discern the Poor Clares - I had almost nothing on my credit card bill for some months after that! "I don't need or want anything!" was really how deep down I felt about stuff!
Strolling by the judge in the bright sun...
Lord, Life can be all that we make of it. Thank you for Ruth and Paul and all they do to give their wonderful kids the life they grew up with including the craziness that is the County Fair/4H in their summers. 4H was really our summer vacation and filled it with lots of growth and learning. Jesus, we thank you for the family experiences we have shared as the kids each looked to you to reveal your perfect plan that you had for each of them. Jesus, we trust in you, and St Clare pray for us. Bless-bless, Barb
First year for goats for Mary and David!
If you can't find Rose... she is probably by the Lamas!
Yes, Mary and her calf were a cute pair and looked so nice in the ring.
