John on his first anniversary and a week with his 2 1/2 month old son, Jude, in the light of our beautiful church after sharing mass as a family with John's family and Ruth's family on the Feast of The Pentecost yesterday morning.
Overhead is Jesus dying on the cross and Him giving us his Mother for us to make our Spiritual mother and bring into our homes! It was such a delight to find this reading as the Gospel today along with the amazing Memorial of Mary the Mother of The Church! How she has blessed us with so many graces and blessings and brought us and our needs to her Son, Jesus.
Our ray of sunshine, Joy, was louder at mass than her 2 1/2 month old cousin, Jude. I guess when you are two you can be terrible/ginger snap from time to time, right?
There is a lot of distracting activity sharing mass with many young ones, but there is nothing better in the world! Joy heard her name numerous times in psalm and song, and of course, in the creed Rose beams big when we all say "rose again." And for her mom, Ruth, "enter under my roof..."
Simon and Mary and David were altar servers and did a good job for the visiting missionary priest from the Philippines. He shared that there are 5 from his family in religious life - 2 priests and 3 nuns, and that his sister died a year ago today on his birthday while we was away raising funds for their order, Missionaries of Jesus. Wonderful family time sharing our Faith with JOY!
After 2 very hard and sad experiences including a wake and a funeral mass the next day for a young man (53) that succumbed to depression this horrible spring and took his own life. We knew the couple well from sharing 8a mass with them for years of watching them with their 3 boys, now with wives and children/grandchildren. So much sadness and pain! Fr Matt did a wonderful loving job sharing that he had an illness, and the Lord will welcome this good and gentle and selfless man with love and forgiveness. Yet, the emptiness, pain and questions which the family must carry forward is heart wrenching.
Seeing them at mass now without him, will be a huge sad hole in our hearts. I have never spoken to them, but when we paid our respects in the funeral home it was truly as we were family after probably 20 years of sharing mass and watching them sharing their faith as a family with their sons and now their sons' families! Jesus, we trust in you.
This man loves Mary!!! Ever since he went through brain cancer 10 years ago, and traveled to Lourdes the three times he was in France for his sister's habiting and first vows , and last year her final vows he was able to show Lourdes to his new wife pregnant with their son... he fell head over heels in love with Mary the Mother of The Church!
We would laugh looking about our family room on the farm... there would be 40+ images of Mary and about the same of Jesus. "I think you could walk in here and know that we are Catholic." John would say. Yes, we love her so much, and it in no way robs us of our devotion to our Jesus Christ, as she selflessly leads us to her Son , and bears him to the world and takes us to Him!
Breakfast on the porch after mass... grandpa takes the kids in groups each week to pick out the fruit and rolls and juice while Ruth makes eggs or Bobbi makes egg bake... 2 year old Joy got the forks and put them around the table. It is fun to see her grow up and follow the example of her older sister, Rose, who has been setting the table since she was able to walk. Their mom loves to set a beautiful table and it celebrates our love of Faith/Family/Farm!
In honor of a landmark day today... not only is it the Memorial of Mary the Mother of The Church, which is filling me with so much happiness and excitement. It is also the anniversary of meeting Patrick Verly at his sister's wedding 42years ago. Here he is as I saw him for the first time at the Groom's dinner the night before. I think that the picture allows you to see how impressive he was to me!
We were laughing this morning about how I sprained my ankle at the wedding dance and how he was blinded to my weakness and imperfect knees and ankles after seeing me in my bikini saying my rosary outside their house at the farm the afternoon before the wedding. "Lust" took over and I got a poor physical specimen in other ways." Yes, with 2 new knees and a hip... he got took!
The two youngest share a kiss and snuggle at mass as Nancy took her 5 including soon to be 4 month old George to the Cities to spend the weekend with dad at his apartment. They had a great time and celebrated Dominic's 5 year old birthday, which will be Wednesday the 12th!

Love how Mary is in the middle of Pentecost and then into today where this reading is used as the first reading... Mary was there as The Church began with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit!
they went to the upper room where they were staying,...
All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer,
together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus... Acts 1

The Gospel for today is Jesus giving her to us at the foot of the Cross! How we are blessed as we take her into our Home! As we recite the rosary each day we are repeating words from the Gospel and allowing her to take us deep into meditation of what her Son has done for us and continues to do for us! What better ways to fill our souls with gratitude and LOVE!
A year ago just before grandpa Pat and I drove the s back to Washington... now the 6 are flying here with their mom a week from tomorrow and the family time supreme begins! So many fake plans and prayers and excitement is building!
Hector stretching after sleeping all night! Both Hector and George started sleeping all night about the same age! Happy healthy boys indeed! Jude also is sleeping about 6 hours at a time, so he is a wonderful sweet and healthy boy too!!!
This big little guy was 3 months old two days ago! He has yet to meet the family other than grandma and I am looking forward to those smiles and getting the 3 new grandsons together for the first time!
The cows and calves in the lush grass in the pasture by our house. I can hear the mothers mooing for their calves in my windows from time to time. I am truly a farm wife and it is a special gift. With 4 cows with twins to keep track of and feed... maybe a bit more mooing than normally. It was a big year for twins this year, and a spring like no other, too!On the way out to do the chickens this morning... the garden is up about a month late getting it in! The beans look like they could use a drink... the farmer husband was already disappointed that we didn't get more rain overnight on Saturday after praying for it to stop just a couple weeks ago!
Radishes will be here soon!
Summer squash with volunteer lettuce we are enjoying...
The cripple chicken was waiting for me to help him drink and eat this morning. It is humbling to have him there to remind us of helping those less fortunate.
Jesus, today is such a day filled with so many graces and blessings as we recall how we are loved and cared for by your Mother, Mary the Mother of God and of your Bride, The Church! With one of your last breaths of life you gave her to us as our mother to bring into our homes! If only we do that we are given so much peace, joy, and love along with kindness, gentleness and all the fruits of your Holy Spirit which fills our inner chapel/soul with your LOVE/LIFE/LIGHT! Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Hallelujah
Playing scrabble at "the farm" with my dad and sibs after spraining my ankle at Marge's wedding dance 42 years ago. I got some time off of work at HCMC and that was OK too! Bless-bless, Barb
Me a week before her wedding... 42 years = a lot of changes and such a journey of Faith/Family/Farm with my Most Cherished Cross!
John's own words!
