"Refresh my heart in Christ." St Paul/"The Kingdom of God is among you." Jesus the Christ/sitting at the feet of my parents

Deacon Robert Cross baptizing our second daughter, Nancy, at a few weeks old in St Mary Chapel at the Catholic School in spring of 1982!  Nancy is held by her Godmother, my sister Mary.  Dad baptized all of my children and even had a graveside service for my two 20 week losses, William and Robert, who are buried at the cemetery.

Such a powerful moment for me and my sister, Mary, who had lived with me during the last 2 months of my pregnancy with Nancy.  I suffered from Preeclampsia and was on increasing bedrest, so Mary came to help me with Ruth and also was a very active and willing helper on the farm!  She fell in love with my life and sadly had to leave when I was back on my feet...

Dad baptizing Ruth, our oldest in the winter of 1980.  Dad had only been a Deacon for 4 years as he was ordained in 1976, but he then married us in 1978 and baptized all our children.  He also taught me and he, mother and I were united in our LOVE for Jesus, Mary and The Church with no reservations!
Walking me up the aisle of Basilica of St Mary in Minneapolis - our home parish after our conversion into The Church in 1971.  All 13 swimming against the tide caused by Vatican 2!  Every day since has been a gift to me including today!

Sharing the farmlife with my sister Mary!!!  The story continued in a beautiful way!  She found her own farmer and married, had a sweet daughter, Audrey.  Her story saddly ended too soon, as she died of lymphoma cancer when she was 28 and Audrey was 20 months.

Yet, the story continues now happily with her farmer remarried to a widow, with 5 children, and Audrey is surrounded by a large happy family.  Audrey herself is now married with 2 sweet daughters of her own!  Our heartache can find healing and LIGHT after the pain of loss!

Audrey recently with her sweet family!  Yes, they live in Wisconsin!
A memory from 7 years ago of 1 1/2 year old Rose Again, with her baby brother, Luke, who just turned 7 on Nov 1st.  Although she is truly in reality a Lanoue girl - she was one of the granddaughters that I called a Verly girl...
So much resembling this true Verly girl, who also is very much resembling her Verly Aunts ahead of her... In a short while I will be spending time with my namesake and her older brother, Jude!
A day brightener as I look out on the world looking like it has a dusting of powdered sugar after a morning light snow...  Winter is early and not giving up easily.  Yes, after the first snow we had 70 degrees for a number of days... now back to winter.
I am on such a tangent... I am sharing Verly girl pictures and more!  Susan/Hallel

My sister, Mary, with her 2 Goddaughters, Nancy and Susan, shortly before she died.  She now prays for them from heaven and she helps them keep their eyes on heaven!

I was a Cross girl - not knowing that I would be the original Verly girl - now a Verly girl for 44 years!
First time new mom on January 4th, 1980 with Ruth Ida.  Now Ruth lives the life she had growing up on the farm, but she does it much more wonderfully!
Hunky farmer Pat with Susan in 1986 when he was just coming to the end of being a dairy farmer.  The next year he became a beef cow/calf farmer.

Ruth the day she came home from the hospital... the tiny pug nose comes from me and my family...
Newborn Nancy had so much dark hair it looked like a patch of fur on her head... we called her "Nanuk of the North."
No, its not Birdie but her dad, John in 1989
Sleeping baby Susan/Hallel... I promise this is the end of the Verly girl tangent, but it was a JOY for me to go there as you can imagine!

From dad last night to me from evening prayer... each morning and evening I sit down with the daily meditation books my parents loved and left behind along with dad's prayer of The Church!  This section of Psalm 139 dad loved and is now finally on his journey with the help of my prayers and those of others here on earth!
I shared this from dad with my brother, Dan, this morning!  How powerful this all is after reading dad's own words to us...

Words – certain words – have gained great significance for me. Reading the scriptures, these words have leapt from the page; I have even taken to underlining every time I find them. They center my life. The first is NAME.

How many times the scriptures tell us to honor the Name. In the Old Testament when God reveals His Name to Moses, the very ground where it occurs is declared holy, and God’s holy name is so sacred that the Old Testament substitutes “Lord” for every occurrence of the NAME – YAHWEH. He is Our Father, ABBA.

In the New Covenant, the Name is JESUS. “There is no other Name under heaven by which we are to be saved.” JESUS! When God’s name is treated lightly, when used coarsely as in the exclamation, “O God!” it’s painful, as it is when I hear the Name of Jesus taken in vain.

I desire GLORY be given to the NAME. Glory is the way we praise GOD in the Highest. This is to enter the radiance, the magnificence, the awesome presence of the NAME. GLORY BE TO YOU, O LORD!

We are not to be shy or timid about our praise of the GLORY, we are to SHOUT WITH JOY TO THE LORD! If within our spirits we feel this exuberant shout when we contemplate the Holy Name, our spirits are lifted up and we are filled with joy, and the temptations that beset us fall apart like the walls of Jericho which came down at the SHOUT of the people of God. These words – when placed in the context of the Catholic Church of Jesus – become radiant with life and, in this context, I bequeath them to the next generation of this family and to those many others that I have loved in this life.

Then the midafternoon reading from Hebrews so powerful knowing how dad strived to run the race well!!!

These words from St Paul also today at the end of the first reading were a sweet melody to me as during my hour this early morning of Adoration with Jesus at 4a was filled with some heaviness and sadness with the state of our family, state, country, world... "Refresh my heart in Christ."  Philemon 1:20
My begonias are having their last beauty as they die from freezing...

How do we refresh our hurting suffering hearts?  Jesus reminds us in the Gospel today from Luke 17...
Jesus said in reply,
“The coming of the Kingdom of God cannot be observed,
and no one will announce, ‘Look, here it is,’ or, ‘There it is.’
For behold, the Kingdom of God is among you.”

How comforting and LIGHT filled is that for us?  We need only look within our inner chapel to find The Kingdom of God!  There with the help of Jesus, Mary and The Church do we find LIFE/LOVE/LIGHT - the Truth that will set us free!  This does not mean that we will not suffer, rather we are asked to take up our Cross and follow Jesus!  There is much that tries to mislead us, but if we keep our eyes of our hearts on Jesus in Word, Body and Blood, and come to Him through Mary His mother in the Rosary each day, and die to self so that Jesus may dwell in us... we will find the Way, the Truth and the LIFE we are given with each new day!
A Lap full of blessings poured upon me by my wonderful parents!  How I always cherished all my wonderful time with them together in their own home and sharing the gift of religious LIFE with them in our shared love of the True Church!

Suddenly my mother was gone, then my father was here sharing with me each day on the farm a month later!  That lasted for what at times seemed to be 6 long months.  Then with a week's notice he had a peaceful passing with a very beautiful natural death.. now it seems to be too quickly he was gone, but yet he is not gone... he and mother continue to share with me and this month when we pray more deeply and consistantly for our dead... I am with them on their journey to heaven forever in my inner temple - the Kingdom of God is among us!
Mom and dad side by side at dusk when dad and I would share Evening prayer after supper... such a holy time for me with the shortening days of winter upon us!  LOVE to see the beautiful sunset of our lives reflected on the white snow.

Jesus, it was so special to stop by hospice yesterday with some donations and get hugs and shed tears with my nurses!  How dad and I loved them and were put in such a peaceful and accepting place for his "natural death".   They spoke words of praise and love for my wonderful father, and how they miss our times of sharing our Faith with them.  Dad would always part from them saying; "The Good Lord willing."  when they said they would see him the next time.  That has now come to an end, yet his example of Faith continues!  May we find that beautiful Kingdom of God in us and carry it forth to this misled and world filled with the darkness of sin and death.  May your LIGHT shine in us!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
How did I lose both my parents so close together and really so quickly?  I knew I would cherish my times with the two of them and then that intense quality time with just dad!  Now it is the wind beneath my wings... Thank you, Jesus!  Bless-bless, Barbara
Their LIGHT shining for all the world to see!  Dad, I will not be silent - I will truly shout the Truth from the rooftops!  "Glory Lord Jesus Christ!!!"
John's Baptism 1989!  Dad and mom also were very instrumental in John's brain cancer healing - rushing the relic of Blessed Solanus Casey from Michigan to Marshall just about exactly 11 years ago!

I am attempting to pray still at 3p with dad in Spirit!  With Solanus joining us on 70 degree days last week - the gnats even returned to make the memories that much more real!

The story continues and the sharing of his healing burns deep!
Holy Now - Peter Mayer
