The Pat and Barb Verly family and their 5 children, in laws and grandkids along with many prayer warriors have been drawn together by John's cancer... sharing daily for 8 months started this blog- Family Soul Story - Our faith, family, farm and now our cancer journey called HEALING have colored and deepened our world. WE continue to share and depend on the support of our prayer warrior community, that has lowered us into the Lord's presence for His healing!
St Andrew pray for us - Christmas anticipation prayer/In Rochester with John during a pandemic!
Up early for John's annual MRI. Mayo was as usual very busy - Monday morning!
How many times have we been in this room for John's MRIs. I think he has counted about 25 plus over the last 11 years since we began our journey called brain cancer/healing/and on with the life for the new and healed John, who found his faith through brain cancer now 11 years later!
The familiar clip board with the questions to answer. He thinks that they are shorter than years ago.
It was interesting to see how covid is being handled here - the best place in the world to be if you have illness! A checkpoint where only the symptom questions are asked, no temp taken as John reminded me the sick could have a temp due to their cancer, illness or from their treatments, then we were given a Monday sticker to show that we had been through the checkpoint as we come and go.
Around 7a on the clock...
So often we have waited here and John goes back for the MRI... today they gave him a mask with no metal over his nose as there can be no metal in the machine... yes, he had to wear the mask inside the machine, and took a nap.
I was very curious about the seating - rather than shoulder to shoulder the chairs were moved so that you and the one person you are allowed to have with you could sit together, but the others were moved away from you. Still many people sitting in the waiting room at one time, so although we were wearing masks and sitting apart... still people were sharing their stories with each other... I heard 2nd hand about a husband there with his wife from Iowa who had pancreatic cancer and a father there with his 33 year old son, who has MS, who were from Kansas City.
Suddenly John called yesterday morning to ask if I could come along with him today. His wife was under the weather...
Unexpected to be here today, and the memories are strong especially knowing that tomorrow is December 1st and 11 years ago we had a week of prayer for John as he was to begin his whole brain radiation as the cancer was growing back through the chemo! We were terrified and the 168 hours of prayer - 24/7 for an entire week was brought so much peace to us, and we could, once again, give control over to Jesus and TRUST!
My Monday sticker up side down and John's tattered around the edges. We are old well seasoned warriors when it comes to this place and the amazing care and healing we have received over these 11 years! John's story continues now with wife and two sweet children!
Last week John called his cancer doctor about a woman we know that is facing cancer... she answered on the second ring and within an hour had called out to Pennsylvania to talk to this person! So blessed by the care and concern we have encountered from day 1 here!
Pat a few days ago with George! Pat was fake planning to come along with us today, but then we realized that only one person could get into Mayo with a patient.
Pat wanted to take John someplace where they had seen similar cancer in his age group... coming to Mayo, where they see it all, was what he needed for peace of mind when our 19 year old son had a very rare brain cancer!
On our trip here we were recalling how we were reassured that this was as amazing as they say... 9 years ago John had what looked to be a stroke, but nothing showed up on the MRI in the Cities! They were baffled! We called John's Dr Brian O'Neal, who got us to Rochester in the first place about this and he said right away..."That sounds like SMART syndrome. Stroke like symptoms related to radiation." Wow! We were quickly on our way to Rochester, and John was to begin taking a whole aspirin each day.
We have plans to go to St John the Evangelist for mass at noon today... the feast of St Andrew!
"Come after Me, and I will make you fishers of men."
At oncethey(Simon Peter and Andrew)left their nets
andfollowed Him.~ Matt 4: 19(Today's Gospel)
John burns to share his story far and wide also and to carry forth as a fisher of men for The Way, the Truth, and the LIFE - Jesus!
Still aglow after our wonderful farm family sharing mass and our sweet breakfast with a happy healthy farm family!John's story continues with wife and child and the new John. We are very grateful that they continue to keep us coming back to our amazing Mayo, which was a huge part of his healing along with Our Lady of Lourdes and hundreds of prayer warriors!
John's cancer brought our family together! That is John's greatest JOY to have all his sisters around him... we have grown to 30 with a new member to join us this spring!
Anointed here in Rochester just before his biopsy by Fr Craig and Hallel back from France/Kansas City! The Church was our strength and HOPE!
France miracle - for Hallel taking her habit at the same time! Fr Craig was there for us there also! We are so blessed! Jesus, we trust in you. Bless-bless, Barbara and John in Rochester at the end of November 2020! We are leaving to attend mass at our familiar St John's at noon on this feast of St Andrew
For You have built Your Church
to stand firm on apostolic foundations,
to be a lasting sign of Your holiness on earth
and offer all humanity Your heavenly teaching.
Therefore, now and for ages unending,
with all the host of Angels,
we sing to You with all our hearts, crying out as we acclaim:
Beginning on St. Andrew's Feast Day, November 30, the following prayer is traditionally recited fifteen timesa day until Christmas. This is a beautifully meditative prayer that helps us increase our awareness ofthe real focus of Christmas and helps us prepare ourselves spiritually for His coming.
Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, I beseech Thee, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires,[here mention your request]through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, and of His blessed Mother. Amen.
