I am fitting it in today while I am working in the open class building for the first 2 hours of this 4th day of the fair. It will be a full day with here there and everywhere including 3 hours in the prolife booth and then 4 working in the Catholic food stand.
Beef is in your future, Luke!
The judge said that Luke had a lot to say... Yes! 13 year old David showed goats with cloverbud Luke.
Talk about looking up to your older brothers and sisters! There are still 2 younger than Luke so 4H will be in their family for another 20 years!
Pillow case prize for Luke!
It is soft to sleep on, too! Good job Lukey!
Mary and Luke in Cloverbud pig show.
They all did wonderfully - some times not at the top where they would like to be, but they are such good sports about how it all falls to them. A taste of humble pie, but how we are called to be "little ones" in our lives. The Gospel today really speaks of the "children" and how the Kingdom is open to those that are small!
Gospel Mt 19:13-15
Children were brought to Jesus
that he might lay his hands on them and pray.
The disciples rebuked them, but Jesus said,
“Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them;
for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
After he placed his hands on them, he went away.
Mary and Simon in showmanship.15 year old Mary, is now a goat farmer! She has her own herd and showed her own goat this year, and will be taking a goat to the State Fair! She loves her goats! And has passed her love of goats on to her younger siblings!
Looking confident as she has worked with goats a lot over her young lifetime!
Joy is a grand champion at watching her brothers and sisters in many shows with grandma and grandpa!
Now those cute pigs - starting with Luke as a cloverbud with big sister, Mary!
Yes, cute! David will be taking a pig to the state fair! 3 kids with 3 different animals makes for kids that have goals and parents that help make them happen with a smile and cheerful attitude all the way around. Willing to sacrifice their own time in order to help their kids have wonderful life changing experiences!
All 6 facing me! LOVE!
2 for good measure!
Maria's youngest smiling so sweetly at her mom... Maggie is now 3 months old and Maria's 7th child. Today is Maria's 38th Birthday! How we love our fair daughter as many years her birthday would happen during the fair! So true of this year, too!
A month ago we went out to bring the 5 older kids to the farm for a week! Farmer hubby got to meet his Maggie for the first time in person. Then she came to see us on the farm on her way to Wisconsin for 2 week with her other grandparents and her Baptism in the middle!

St. Maximilian Kolbe was a Polish Conventual Franciscan friar, who volunteered to die in place of a stranger in the Nazi German death camp of Auschwitz, located in German-occupied Poland during World War II. Due to his efforts to promote consecration and entrustment to Mary, he is also known as the Apostle of Consecration to Mary.
She wants a snack too!
Pat and his JOY Joy at the pig show. How they love to hang out together! Pat has been living here as he is now on the fair board again. He was in 4H, then his kids and now grandkids - a family tradition for sure!
9 year old Rose and personality plus pig!
Talk about big personality! Joy with mini mouse hair thanks to her wonderful mom!
My hour of prayer for 7 Sisters for Fr Denny yesterday was filled with wonderful music for a wedding today! "Did we entertain you?" Yes! Jesus in the tabernacle, Mary taking my prayers to her Son, and wonderful wedding music! Wonderful!
How we need to see this today and everyday!
St Maximilian's beautiful words about Our Lady- how he loves her! Let us with her help embrace our Most Cherished Cross and find LOVE/LIFE/LIGHT! Jesus, we trust in you. Amen and Hallelujah
Me and my pictures at the fair. I entered none this year, but since I have over the last 43 years entered many in most open classes... I now have become the photography super intendant. Sigh. I am ready for younger blood to take over, but... as I have shown here thousands of times... I love photography! It is my love language! Bless-bless, Barbara
SAINT MAXIMILIAN MARY KOLBE, a priest of the Order of Conventual Friars Minor and a martyr, who founded the Militia of the Immaculate Mary. After his deportation to various Nazi prisons, he finally arrived at the Auschwitz extermination camp in Poland where gave himself to be executed taking the place of a fellow prisoner who was a family father. Doing so he offered his ministry as a holocaust of love and a model of fidelity to God and to men. He was killed with a lethal injection of carbolic acid in the same cell which he had transformed into a prayer chapel and which he shared with other condemned persons. One of them recounted how “it was himself, with prayer on his lips, who gave his arm to the executioner” and that a few hours later they found him “leaning against the wall, with his head tilted on his left side and his face unusually radiant. His eyes were open and focused in one
