Valentine's story - wife's flowers go to the poor/Jesus takes us by the hand outside "the village" to truly "see"

My wonderful husband 2 years ago in Kansas City with our nun, Little Sister Hallel!  We are just 2 days away from leaving for a parent's weekend with our sweet Little Sisters as the American Little Sister parents gather to share, laugh and for me - cry with JOY and emotion!  Hallel is living in France this year, but I have feeling we will be calling her now and then throughout our weekend.

My husband is my champion for Family and for LIFE!  He does not put a price tag on getting our family together, and is very generous.  I was so struck by this amazing Valentine's Story and have permission to anonymously share it here!

My husband…❤️
We have been married 27 years. We have 12 kids, one of them with significant disabilities. My husband is a Catholic high school theology teacher and a does a billion other things. Really I don’t know how he does so much with so much grace.
I am a home caregiver to quadriplegics. I had to work last night on Valentines Day. I called him when I got off and he sent me to pick up some Chinese food on the way home. When I got home, he apologized for not making dinner or making my Valentines Day special. But he most certainly did. ❤️❤️
After school, he had gathered up our kids ages 3-25 (except the one who had a date and a few off at college) and they made simple valentines cards and peanut butter sandwiches and then they went to buy flowers, lots of flowers. 🌹 🌺 They drove downtown and spent hours passing out the flowers and sandwiches and cards to the many homeless folks downtown. They gave them cards that said “You are loved.” Many of them got emotional, shared that they were struggling with abuse, addiction, hardship. It meant a lot to them to be remembered on this day of love and it was good for my kids to see. This is not the first time they done something for this population. My family regularly helps with a shower project so my husband knew a lot of them.
My husband apologized that he forgot to save me some flowers as he intended to. He said the need was just so great and he just gave them all away. It was really more than okay. Our love was where it needed to be. I felt it at work. I felt it in his giving. I feel it with my kids. I feel so privileged to be his wife. We had a late night Chinese picnic so we could spend the last moments of the day together.
Perfect Valentines Day.
Just had to share something beautiful and positive. Sometimes our husbands get it so right

2 years ago in Kansas City on this day... Hallel reading the Gospel while we spent time mendicating it with "echoes" found throughout the Bible.
In the copula on top of the roof of Lumen Christi - Light of Christ Monastery in the heart of the poor in inner city Kansas City, Kansas.  The motto we live by - "Wounded, I will never cease to love."  The Lamb shows us how to live this out and it is not easy!
The Lamb, the Little Sisters in Adoration morning and evening with Jesus on the altar, farmer hubby Patrick with his huge hands folded in prayer!  Our daughter's "yes" to Jesus to become his spouse did not deprive us of family - but added hundreds of Little Sisters and Little Brothers to our family.
Hallel serving our applekuechen made with our homemade apple pie filling and using her grandma Ann's ice cream scoop.  How we love to share our homemade food with The Community of the Lamb - knowing that our daughter has a taste of home from time to time makes me smile so big!

Ruth and I can for 6 families including out Little Sisters!  LOVE!  We are to bring our salsa and our hamburger with us on Friday!  A sure sign that we are family when they ask us to bring our food!  We love that!

Nancy's family 6 years ago - they have added 3 since - most recently they added Regina Maria, who is 2 months old today!

Regina on her Baptism Day - Sunday of the Lord's Baptism!
Now Maria's 7 children - I am remembering oldest daughter, 13 year old Therese, who at 2 years old would color pictures and fold a couple dollars inside.  Her mother would drive by a homeless person, and roll down the window so that this sweet little girl could hand out her gift for them.  "God bless you" she would say to them in her tiny sweet little girl voice.  A girl with a heart for the poor and down trodden indeed!
Oldest daughter, Ruth with her family - they just welcomed little Thomas on November 19th - soon to be 3 months old this weekend.
Sunday Feb 6th Thomas' older brother, Simon was confirmed into The Catholic Church, and half an hour later he and sister, Mary, became Godparents to their baby brother!  So special and a tie that will keep them close always as they share their faith with Tommy as he grows.
So important to share our Faith in our domestic Church/family!  Faith needs to begin in the home!
At the same time Simon was confirmed here at our local Marshall parish.  Granddaughter, Therese was confirmed in Fort Lewis, WA - her Aunt Nancy flew to be her sponsor!  How we love sharing our Faith as a family- our greatest JOY!

Son, John, with wife, Bobbi, and their two children.  John's healing from brain cancer 13 years ago... many learned the power of Prayer through his healing!

I found the Gospel today from Mark 8 to be very compelling.  I was drawn in when it spoke of Jesus taking the blind man's hand and leading him out of the village - a place of more peace and privacy with Jesus.
He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village.
Putting spittle on his eyes he laid his hands on the man and asked,
“Do you see anything?”
Looking up the man replied, “I see people looking like trees and walking.”
Then he laid hands on the man’s eyes a second time and he saw clearly;
his sight was restored and he could see everything distinctly.
Then he sent him home and said, “Do not even go into the village.”  Mark 8
When Susan/Hallel took her habit and changed her name - John and I flew there in 24 hours after he had his second chemo and got better!  The Feast of the Queenship of Mary!  Her name is the first part of Hallelujah, - "Every time someone says my name they are giving God all the praise!"

Jesus not only takes the blind man out of the village with all the hustle and bustle and distractions and those that doubt and criticize and find fault, and like to confuse and mislead us off the narrow path.  When the man is healed - he tells him to not go back there.  Our time alone with our healing and loving Lord is to be protected and pursued, and there is nothing better than being led by the hand as Jesus leads us in the way of healing and sight!!!!

After John's biopsy to today he has ataxia on his left side.  He needed his sisters to walk while visiting Lourdes shortly after his brain surgery.  On the Cross of brain cancer - now healed and the new John!
John fell in love with Our Lady in Lourdes - we returned there in 2011 when Hallel took her first vows.  We had brought his dad and grandma Ann along this time!  He went into the bathes with his dad!  "Mom, there is a better mom than you."    "Yes, John, I totally agree!"
My namesake, Birdie Barbara, on Sunday with a giant strawberry after mass - we shared breakfast together

Lord, Jesus, I long to love you better by serving without counting the cost.  May we die to self so that you may dwell in us and we may become your hands and feet and voice of The Truth.  How we LOVE you in The Word each day!  St James today in the first reading has so much for us! humbly welcome the word that has been planted in you
and is able to save your souls....Be doers of the word and not hearers only...But the one who peers into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres,
and is not a hearer who forgets but a doer who acts;
such a one shall be blessed in what he does....Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this:
to care for orphans and widows in their affliction
and to keep oneself unstained by the world.  James 1:19-27  I would like to add to this caring for the poor and the homeless as those mentioned above did so beautifully!  Amen and Hallelujah
My beads are calling out to me... as I was traveling around running errands in my chapel on wheels, I felt peace flow all around me as I prayed going from here to there.  Bless-bless, Barbara and the 46 - 33 here and 13 in heaven

Mom's daily devotion of Pope Benedict XVI was so rich in wisdom today - she read it 10 years over and over and now that she has died - I feel her with me each day sharing The LOVE we have for the True Church!
