Arriving home after a glorious weekend in every way with my huge family! Ruth, Paul and I traveled into the late night on Friday to find a wonderful "new place" for the Crosses - my maiden name - to gather for the weekend before Christmas! The games had begun with already a huge crowd playing "Mafia", and then the other gaming tables were set up with puzzles and other various board games... Chances to have a smaller group to visit with...
We woke to an amazing sight of a beautiful lake out the huge house high windows in the great room! The reason for the season is very much evident in our weekend together! WE celebrate with the rosary in the morning, prayers before meals and Christmas carols and prayers with Santa/Grandpa before the little ones - 12th grade and younger exchange gifts! My new son in law... Bill... experienced Christmas camp for the first time...
He had heard from Nancy how fun and filled with family and great experiences that it was, so he came with high expectations... and he assured that he wasn't dissappointed! He helped me see it through new and excited eyes... When I told him that I felt bad that I really didn't get to visit with many for any length... when we had the whole weekend together...His wise comment and amazing too..."It is just nice to all be together." That wonderful comment took all the pressure away and just let me walk into the party with Santa and Baby JESUS and revel in the hugeness of my family and the way that we all love and support each other!
I had heard that comment from someone at the peak of the celebration with all the craziness that it holds with all the LIFE and LITTLE ones everywhere! I think it was one of my sister in laws that made this tearful expression from her heart; "What I love about this family is the way that we all love and accept each other!" Who could ask for anything more in a family?
To have Pat away from all that distracts him on the farm was a wonderful thing! He left early with Maria and all 5 of the grandkids! He was in his glory caring for them and guiding us there after Ruth got off working a 12 hour shift at the hospital! WE found a most amazing facility that I would suggest to anyone that wants to gather with family for a weekend... we put our dibs in on next year for the weekend before Christmas as it is all that we could have ever hoped for!
Making our own meals went off without a hitch, and thanks to the hard work of my sister in laws it was smooth sailing and we all came home filled to the brim and sugar plum fairies were dancing in our heads...
We gathered around the HOLY family for prayer and sharing and just reveling in the beauty of nature that surrounded us in our winter wonderland on a snow covered lake...
Scattered through the room many gathered for games of various kinds as well as music and visiting... My soon to be 86 year old dad has a special time playing games with my brother's daughter, Sarah... age 7! This gives you an idea of how great the great room is! WE were sitting in the trees!
The craft this year was to make Tshirts... a keepsake to take with you... Maria made her kids' one with their first and second names on them... She had the kids wear them when they went to pick up her husband, Joseph, from the airport... "He will really like these!" Something just struck me while I was writing this... it is only right that Maria (Mary) and Joseph should be together at Christmas time!
Cookie time! My sister, Marty, does the Christmas cookies and is in charge of decorating! She is up to 9 grandkids with 6 children all married but one! They fill the room when they get there! So precious they are especially with the frosting all over their little faces!
The grandmas have started to feel like their hand has a camera growing out of the fingers! You might miss something amazing!
Maria had a wedding to go to in the Cities... grandpa had a hayday allowing little Davey to check out the cupcakes and frosting at lunch!
He was in need of an emergency bubble sink after the sugary lunch! The new facilities had wonderful bedrooms with wonderful bathroom facilities... "Give me a bubbly sink and my aunt Nancy's toothbrush..." should be the name of this picture!
Before the family picture... Maria with her kids and the Camp 2010 Tshirts! A keepsake and a project that kept many busy for a good long time! Then the men headed out for broomball and the little ones for sledding while the very little ones as well as the older ones went for a nap!
John and his Cute Godson, David, wait for Santa to come... He was beaming ear to ear... when the first prayer to Baby Jesus after Santa arrived was in Thanksgiving for John's healing... All 75 of us errupted into loud and joyous applause!
Bill had his first Christmas Camp, and in the midst of the mayham that happens for about an hour after Santa comes, and has each grandchild and great grand to sit on his lap... hence Nancy got to bring along her new better half as well as her starting to show baby to all sit on grandpa Santa's lap... I asked Bill what he tought of it all... "I have never seen anything like this in my life, but it is absolutely wonderful!" "To think that all of these people are the result of your parents! This is like nothing I could have ever imagined family ever being like!"
Grandma had so much fun dressing the two girls and the two Davids alike... Simon had a special outfit that went well with the rest... he had his first Christmas program at the Catholic School... not the best picture of the 5, but I will just have to keep trying...
We had breakfast Sunday morning... Bill and Nancy making the bacon and eggs... it was all so wonderful and the weather even cooperated... Thank you Lord!
Lord..."in the defenseless weakness of a child... God wanted us to have our first encounter with saving mercy." Pope Benedict XVI... a wonderful gift from our Godson - Day by day with our amazing pope - Thank you! We are still floating on air lifted up by your love and peace and joy as we find it within our wonderful family! We thank you and praise you with our lives and our service one for the other... Jesus, we trust in you! Amen and Halleluia!Bless-bless, Barb
"Only with Christ has authentic joy made its appearance and the only thing of ultimate importance in our lives is to learn to see and know Christ, the God of grace, the light and joy of the world." Pope Benedict XVI
