Three bunnies sitting on the fence... maybe the one in the middle is an Indian however and proving that boys will be boys and they are equally silly here! The two Davids and Gus are close... they enjoy spending time together very much! I just wanted to start with them to add a smile to our days!
Here's the big picture that I was getting to... Hallel with the boys 5 months ago... she is holding Luke, who will be 4 in a few weeks and who is sharing a Feast day with me today... St Luke!
Each girl now has a Patrick in their boys... Ruth has Simon Patrick, Nancy has Dominic Patrick, and Maria has Patrick Joseph. I have been very patient and silent about no Barbaras at all yet, but I have started to mention that it would be nice. I had pointed out to me that I do have Luke, as when I joined The Church as a 20 year old college student, I took St Luke for my patron Saint. Why? Because I love what he gives us of Mary, and the Gospel of Mercy with the Prodigal Son and Good Samaritan, and he was a Physician and I was in nursing school. I have never regretted taking him for my patron saint and it is very wonderful to share this special day with my grandson, Lukey Tookie!
It was so special to share the beginning of my feast day this morning with John in the dark kitchen... John eats and fills in when he can on our shared morning prayer, and I was sure to read this to him while he ate..."The intimate accounts contained in Luke's gospel of the early years of Christ's life (the Visitation, the Nativity, the Presentation, etc.) lead many scholars to believe that one of the eyewitnesses he interviewed was the Blessed Virgin Mary herself. According to tradition he was also a skilled artist and painted the first icons of Our Lady with the Child Jesus. Several of these icons are still venerated today, the most famous of which hangs in the Church of St. Mary Major in Rome."
I knew that John would love this as much as I do! We see eye to eye on who the best mother of all is, and we love her so much! To think that she posed for her icon or St Luke remembered her appearance is out of this world amazing! Also to think of his wonderful talks with her and relaying it all to us - this is what I love so much about his Gospel... "the intimate accounts" of Mary and Jesus!
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings

Yes!!! This is true of all the Gospels for sure, and the 4 that wrote them with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit! Today in St Luke's Gospel - Luke 10... He sends forth the disciples to "Whatever town you enter and they welcome you,eat what is set before you,
cure the sick in it and say to them,
'The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.'"
No fussy eaters here! Such a humble place to be in.... depending on the hospitality of others, and nothing but taking what is given to you. I see a lot of this same thing happening with Hallel and her Community go out on mission/knocking on the door of the poor and begging for their food! They, too, represent/are Christ knocking at the door of their hearts as they share the Gospel/Christ with them!
Lord, each day in your Church is a wonderful gift filled with so very much to hold close to our hearts, minds and souls! St Luke led by the Holy Spirit listened at the feet of our Mother of Heaven and earth and knew that she was chosen by you, and given to us at the foot of the Cross. We have her account of bringing you into the world, and loving you without counting the cost! Thank you, St Luke! We also witness your Mercy in such powerful ways through his sharing The Prodigal Son and the Good Samaritan! We are unworthy of that mercy, and we in turn return it to those around us. Happy Feast of Saint Luke, the only Gospel writer to give us the Parable of the Prodigal Son. God rejoices when we turn to him, as the father in the parable does: “Let us eat and make merry; for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found” (Luke 15:23-24).
