HIs name is John - surely the hand of the Lord is with him!/Clouds lift us heavenward

July 4th, 2009 - we had an appreciation gathering in front of the red barn at our place- it was then Ruth and Paul's home.

We had discovered that John had brain cancer after praying for Faith, and were in the midst of our battle to victory now 11 years later.  The clouds that evening seemed to remind us that God is in control and we had to give our all to Him and TRUST!
Walking out of the house yesterday to this sky filled with the wonder of His creation!

I recall vividly sitting at the bedside of my 20 year old son, John, and reading to him the Solemnity of the Nativity of St John the Baptist.  How powerful were the words of his father and mother at the time of his birth - "John is his name!"  Luke 1  Such an important feast day and so true for our only son... we had Luke for our boys name through his 4 sisters before him, but when it came to our 5th child, a boy, it had turned into John!  Yes, John Paul II had a lot to do with it, but sitting there after hearing the doctor in Sioux Falls say cancer for the first time and talk about doing brain surgery!  NO!!!!

Our son had cancer in that beloved head of his!  Help us, Lord!
"Jesus, we trust in you."  Became our constant prayer after his cancer came back through his chemo and we faced whole brain radiation a few months later.  Bishop LeVoir wrote us..."In times of distress and fear repeat these words; 'Jesus, I trust in you.' "
How the Lord answered our prayers, and this morning reading the Gospel with my father these words spoke so powerfully as I am sure they gave us comfort 11 years ago as we took him out of the hospital in Sioux Falls and soon headed to the Cities to get another opinion and later to Rochester Mayo!

So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called.
He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,”
and all were amazed.
Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed,
and he spoke blessing God.
Then fear came upon all their neighbors,
and all these matters were discussed
throughout the hill country of Judea.
All who heard these things took them to heart, saying,
“What, then, will this child be?”
For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.
The child grew and became strong in spirit,
and he was in the desert until the day
of his manifestation to Israel.
Luke 1:56-67
" Surely the hand of the Lord is with him."

A 4th of July pool party at Pat's sisters home at this time of placing our trust in Him and giving Jesus the control - as Hallel told us when we called her in France on Father's Day 2009 - "This is the storm and Jesus is in control."
John with his Godson, Big David while we wait for the diagnosis and where the Lord wants us to be.  David will be 12 in a few weeks!
The back pasture 11 years ago with lush grass and glorious heavenly clouds to remind us to Trust in Jesus!
Hallel home to stand with us in the battle!
Little Sister Benedict from our family of the Lamb!  Their prayers were the wind beneath our wings!
Never enough... Ruth must have been working at the hospital so Paul was a standin for the 5 kids united with John in the battle!  Our 5 with us here and our 7 in heaven joining in the prayers and showers of graces and blessings called John finding Faith through brain cancer!
In his own words!!
The corn was head high on the 4th of July that year - this year it looks like it will be there too!
How we love to see our Susan/Hallel back with her family - it meant the world to John as he and Hallel are super close!  She is famous for saving his life when he was a baby - "Where's John?" And we turned to see him toddling up behind a tractor that Pat was backing out of the shed!  Scooped him up in the nick of time!
How we depended on our prayer warriors - including a week of prayer - all 168 hours were covered by at least one person!  Just as he was to enter his whole brain radiation to save his life!
Therese at 1 - sitting in John's hospital room in the Cities 11 years ago!
With Godson, David, who will be 12 in a few weeks!
Hallel just back from France with her traveling companion and our dear Little Sister Benedict, who lived here in KC for 10 years and became an American citizen - she is now back in France, and we miss her very much!
The chapel in St Joseph's hospital - Jesus reaching down from the cross to heal St Peregrine!  He certainly did this for John, too!
Pt's mother comes for a visit. John is very moved to tears by the family support he had and the powerful prayers - Jesus certainly touched him from the Cross called brain cancer!
We laughed at the eye patch he was suggested to wear for his double vision... a symptom of the tumor in his brain.  A few days earlier was the reading of a beam in your eye... John had an eye injury about 10 years earlier in which he got a stick in his eye while running after a friend.  I thought this was a result of his eye injury when he starting having double vision while checking the fields for weeds and pests with his summer intern job.  - No!  Caner was the culprit!
The clouds of yesterday remind us of His care without end for us and the miraculous ways that he answers our prayers!

For me now it involves the "miracle" that my father is living here with me for 9 weeks!  I cannot really imagine what would have been the senario otherwise!  All we know is that doors closed and that this door was wide open, and has been a bouquet of roses from St Therese along with the thorns that come with them!
11 years later - the old red barn needs a paint job.  Ruth and Paul got the flag up and flying since we celebrated Birdie Barbara's Baptism here a few weeks back.  The sign on the Barn - Welcome Birdie Barbara... our 19th grandchild and we have had 15 in the last 11 years!  John having the last 2 after marrying Bobbi 2 years ago!  Talk about answered prayers!!!
Many are telling my father that they love how he is with me in my peaceful beautiful prairie farm home.  Most nice days we sit out and enjoy the beauty of God's creation from the porch as we pray our rosary and chaplet.  Being able to see is like living on the Big Lake Michigan!
Capturing the flag unfurled in the wind was my goal on the way back from the mail box.

My father took a fall a few days ago, and so I have been super vigilant about having my hand on his back while he moves to table or bed or chair!  I got a good report from the aide, who gave his shower this morning... that he seemed just as strong and steady to her.  So I am pondering allowing him more independence again slowly.  It is a complicated and demanding dance we are sharing here.  All prayers are appreciated with my father as they were with son, John, and Grandson, Patrick a few years later!

A sign of improvement was dad checking out the computer after lunch yesterday.

Jesus, the clouds in the heavens remind us of your endless LOVE and Mercy on us!  I am so grateful that my father's fall did not truly harm him.  Help me to be vigilant and give me the strength and the patience I need to love and serve him without counting the cost.  Jesus we look at John and are amazed at how you answered his half-hearted prayer for Faith with so very much!  Jesus, we trust in you.  Amen and Hallelujah
A picture to share the works of the Lord continuing for John - now with wonderful wife, Bobbi, and their arms full of Jude and Birdie!
LOVE/LIGHT/LIFE!  When we embrace our Most Cherished Cross we find Jesus, Mary and the Saints on our journey to heaven forever!  Bless-bless, Barbara

Jesus giving John the water of LIFE - "You will never thirst!"  Yes!  He brought John into The Church through his LOVE for Mary at Lourdes as a big piece of that!
Bathed in the waters of Lourdes twice!  Head over heels in love with Our Lady!  "Mom, there is a better mother than you."  "Yes!!!"

LOVE this!
From Nancy today on Catholic Sprouts

Imagine something for me.
Imagine how powerful it would be if a father sat down with his son for 10 minutes five times a week and discussed things like Purity, Mortification, Generosity and Holiness.
Imagine the lessons that could be taught by a mother to her daughter if they spent an hour each Saturday sharing about Humility, Gratitude, Love and Hope.
Just imagine.
Imagine what that time could do for your kids, your family...for you.
These things are possible. Just need a guide, and that is exactly what we created.
The Virtues for Catholic Youth is on sale now. Because forming our children is our job.

My St JPII loved Our Lady so much!  He is my hero in heaven fighting the evil of abortion and all the sins promoted from the World.  St JPII, we pray to you now in our need for Truth to reign and the LIGHT to reveal the culture of death that is promoted so boldly in this world!  Amen
